Porsche 911 GT3 Touring Package Launched To Hit Back At 911 R Flippers

Disgruntled with owners flipping their Porsche 911 Rs and making huge profits, Porsche decided to create the 911 GT3 Touring Package.

Announced in September, the new GT3 variant is essentially a slightly tamer version of the 911 R that’s not limited in production numbers. Speaking to Road and Track, 911 boss August Achleitner said the carmaker wanted the GT3 Touring Package to be accessible to its average customers.

“If [the GT3 Touring Package] helps keep the prices a little bit lower for the average customer of our cars, it’s better.

“Of course, there are some specific customers who are a little bit disappointed, but it’s ok, we can live with this,” Achleitner said.

Unlike the 911 R, the 911 GT3 Touring Package is based around the facelifted 991.2-generation model. As a result, it features slightly different headlights and taillights. However, for the most part, the GT3 Touring Package looks strikingly similar to the 911 R and beneath the skin, also uses a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine delivering 500 hp and mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
