The new Toyota Prius C concept car was unveiled at the Australian Motor Show back in July and now images of the vehicle in production form have been leaked in a Japanese brochure. The new compact MPV style Prius is rumoured to be called Aqua and will be the smallest and cheapest model in the Prius family when it arrives in 2012. The production model takes on some different design features compared to the current Prius theme including a more rounded front end with a curvy front bumper, vertical corner spotlight clusters and an all-new headlight design. The production model also loses a lot of the angular, sporty and futuristic style of the concept and also appears skinnier than the original concept version revealed.
According to the brochure, the Toyota Prius C hybrid features a 1.4-litre petrol engine producing 54kW of power and 111Nm of torque, linked to an electric motor producing 45kW of power and 169Nm of torque.
The Prius C is set to be officially launched at the Tokyo Motor Show in December and will be initially sold in Japan and the US.
