One of the final HSV GTSR W1’s to roll off the production line has sold for $250,000 (191,475 USD) in Queensland, Australia, a figure that’s closer to $270,000 (roughly 206,000 USD) when the transaction fees are added.
The potent sports sedan is number 36 of just 300 examples produced and is painted in an exceptionally bright shade of red, making it stand out from all other Commodore-based models. All up, there are just 21 km (13 miles) on the clock.
In Australia, prices for the GTSR W1 started at $169,990 (130,000 USD) plus on-road costs.
However, given the vehicle’s limited production run, enthusiasts have been eager to pay huge premiums to acquire the car. As a matter of fact, local media suggests that demand has outstripped supply by three to one.
Making the GTSR W1 so special is the GM-sourced 6.2-liter LS9 supercharged V8 engine, originally used by the C6-generation Corvette ZR1. In the W1, it delivers 635 hp and 601 lb-ft (814 Nm) of torque and is mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission that funnels power to the rear wheels.
