It seems that the general consensus in and around the automotive industry is that copying and slightly modifying what the other guy did is acceptable.
In fact, between getting parts from the automotive supplying giants in bulk, hiring designers and engineers one would argue it’s hard to come up with something that either looks original or does something special.
