Porsche has confirmed that its team, Porsche AG Team Manthey, will be competing in the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans, 10 years since it last competed back in 1998 where the team came out on top.
The team will compete in the GTE class with two new 911 RSR race cars, currently still in development, joining Ferrari’s Italia sports car which currently dominates the class.
In addition, Porsche will also be entering the 2013 World Endurance Championship.
Speaking at the announcement of Porsche’s entry into Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship, Porsche boss Hartmut Kristen said, “The new 911 RSR is currently being developed by our engineers and tested by our works drivers, and what better time could there be to introduce the new car than the Porsche 911’s 50th anniversary.”
