While big, bustling V8 engines have their appeal, there is something especially intoxicating about small-capacity engines that howl like tiny Formula 1 engines.
Among Subaru enthusiasts, high-revving boxer engines, such as the EJ207, are adored and Australian tuning company GotitRext has decided to take the boxer engine to new heights.
The firm got their hands on a flat-four EJ-series motor and set about transforming it with new internals and a Garrett GTW3884 turbocharger. Incredibly, the engine delivers 610 hp at the wheels. However, that’s not the most amazing thing.
The most remarkable element of this flat-four is its ability to rev to a barely-believable 12,000 rpm. It’s unclear how GotitRext was able to make the engine rev at such extraordinary levels while still being reliable but it makes for a truly frightening powertrain.
As a matter of fact, the five-speed manual transmission mated to the engine means this 1994 Impreza LX hits 140 mph (225 km/h) in third gear alone!
