The last seats on the Formula E grid for next season are quickly being filled as Mahindra has confirmed its driver lineup for the championship ahead – keeping one driver in his place and hiring another.
The newcomer is Felix Rosenqvist, a 24-year-old driver from Sweden. Rosenqvist has won numerous championships in Formula Renault and Formula 3, recently adding experience in GT and DTM racing to his résumé. He positively dominated the 2015 FIA European Formula 3 Championship last season, and took three wins in Indy Lights so far this year.
Rosenqvist will be partnering with Nick Heidfeld, a former F1 driver with a wealth of experience. The 39-year-old German similarly won championships in Formula Ford and Formula 3 in the early days of his career, went on to score 13 grand prix podiums in F1, and has since been competing in Le Mans endurance racing as well as Formula E.
Meanwhile the NextEV team has confirmed that it is retaining its existing driver lineup for next season, with both Nelson Piquet JR and Oliver Turvey to stay on for another season. Piquet won the drivers’ championship in its inaugural season, while Turvey won the LMP2 class at Le Mans last year in a Zytek-Nissan for Jota Sport.
That leaves just one seat still up for grabs, at Jaguar alongside Adam Carroll. Along with the driver announcements, both NextEV and Mahindra team also revealed its liveries for next season, the latter’s chosen from the #DrivenByDesign contest.
