Ford To Build Electric Crossover In Mexico Rather Than U.S.

Ford intends on moving the production of a future all-electric crossover from the United States to Mexico.

The upcoming vehicle was originally set to be built in Michigan but Automotive News reports that the brand will instead move production to Mexico and commence construction of the model in summer 2020.

Ford first announced the all-electric crossover as part of a $700 million investment at its Flat Rock assembly plant, a move that will create roughly 700 jobs.

The gap left behind by the electric crossover in Michigan will be filled by additional investments in autonomous vehicle development. This will see a further $200 million invested in the Flat Rock plant and an additional 150 jobs added.

“We see a bigger opportunity now than we originally saw,” Ford spokesman Alan Hall said.
