The new track-ready Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition is probably the most capable Mustang out of the box for facing the demanding Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track. Somehow, I always had the impression that Ford would never get any flak for using the ‘Laguna Seca’ name, as it reiterated the new Boss 302 special edition’s track mannerisms for one of the most popular racetracks this side of the pond.
According to the Ford Authority, it seems Mazda filed a suit against Ford in lue of the naming rights to the track-spec Boss 302 Laguna Seca. The suit requested that Ford remove the track’s shortened name (or utilize a different track name) or use the full track name ‘Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’. The suit was not financial but as an answer to the demands, Ford has decided to make amends by changing the name to the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Edition. In Ford’s effort to remain optimistic about the situation, the first vehicle to roll off of the assembly line with the new full raceway name will wear an exclusive Rotary Blue color showcased at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
I am sure just about any automotive enthusiast, who is the least bit knowledgeable about the new Boss 302 and the infamous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track, already put two and two together to associate the Boss 302 Laguna Seca Edition with the actual race track. It remains to be seen how well perceived this ‘minor’ change will be.
