New Renault concept car features a drone on its roof

Renault’s new concept car is so modern and futuristic, you would swear that it came straight out of a sic-fi film. However, that’s not the case – this car is the result of months of imagining, re-imagining and design by Renault designers worldwide.

The Renault Kwid is the company’s new concept. It was first introduced at the 2014 New Dehli Auto Expo in India. The car itself is also inspired by India, and designed to fit into the small roads across India.

The car itself is a small SUV, with super modern designs on both the exterior and interior. Renault says they plan on putting a 1.2 liter turbocharged engine inside the Kwid – so it won’t be too slow either.

But, the best part about the new Kwid is not its exceptional modern design or compact body, but it’s ‘attachment’. On the roof of the car, is a flying, quadcopter drone that literally launches from the roof. Sound crazy? Well, it’s not – it’s incredible.

Renault calls this drone the Kwid’s ‘flying companion’. The idea is that the drone, which can be controlled manually from a tablet on the car’s dashboard or fly autonomously, can fly ahead of where the car is traveling and check for traffic jams or other road related problems.

The drone is also able to then relay a live video back to the car, so you can see what is going on meters in front of you.

The inside, which really looks the inside of a stereotypical ‘space car’, is probably one of the most modern layouts we’ve ever seen. Firstly, the steering wheel isn’t positioned on either the left or the right side of the car, but rather slap bang in the middle. It then features a tablet on the left-hand side.

In a video Renault released about the concept, they explain that this is the most ‘international’ car hey have ever designed; with designers from different countries contributing to the final product.
