New Hyundai Genesis Coupe Coming In 2012

Need an excuse to visit Detroit in January? How about this: Hyundai will be launching an all-new Genesis Coupe at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Details are still sketchy, and Hyundai isn’t saying much to confirm or deny rumors, but we know the sports-car-of-the-Hyundai-family will be getting new exterior sheet metal. It’s hard to tell from the spy photos circulating on the internet, but it doesn’t look like the car will be radically changed in either size or shape, and we say that’s a good thing.

The car’s also rumored to be getting more power, which makes sense considering the 3.8 liter V-6 in the Genesis sedan has already received a bump in output. For 2012, the Genesis sedan jumped from 290 horsepower to 333, so it’s logical to expect the same with the Genesis Coupe. The 2.0-liter turbo four should be getting more grunt as well, but details are sorely lacking at the moment. Expect the four-banger to make more horsepower than last year’s 210 and possibly as much as 274, which is what the Theta II turbo engine produces in the Hyundai Sonata Turbo.
