B1 & B2 Grand Turismo: Russia’s First Sports Cars

The B1 and B2 Grand Turismo models from Russia’s Marussia Motors have started the production process, after a grand opening of the company’s first showroom in Moscow. Marussia is well known as a manufacturer of specialty sports cars. These will be Russia’s first sports cars to come into the market.

The B1’s original design had been shown in the latter part of 2008, and had a hybrid powerplant, which was subsequently eliminated from the vehicle.

The B2 has been inspired by jetfighters. Both of the models feature mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 from Cosworth, which is available in three power levels: 300, 360 ad 420 hp.

The word from Marussia is that this power level is competitive, especially considering that the weight of the vehicle is 1100 kg (2,425 lbs).

This ratio gives the car the ability to zoom to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Reports say that the car has met very stringent safety measures and also that there will be interesting revelations from the company at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2011.

Reportedly, Marussia has already got a fair amount of orders, and has plans to manufacture about 10,000 cars a year. The vehicles are priced at 100,000 euros. A third model the Marussia F2 SUV is set to be launched in the spring of 2011.
