Petrol Price in South Africa – Infographic

Petrol SA

Cars.co.za has released a very interesting, yet unnerving infographic on the price of petrol in South Africa over the past 10 years.

Today, the current petrol price in South Africa stands at a staggering R13,55 for unleaded petrol and  R12,48 for diesel.

In August of 2004, unleaded petrol was priced at exactly R4,00 per liter and diesel stood at R3,29 per liter. So, with the information compiled with this infographic, 10 years ago South Africans were paying 339% LESS for petrol than today.

On average, the price of petrol in South Africa has gained almost one rand per year, though the jumps have been erratic.

The period between August 2008 and August 2009 was the best time for car owners in South Africa – the petrol price dropped around R2.50. But, since then, the price has nearly doubled again!

It is quite painful to know that South Africans are paying this much for a basic necessity such as petrol. It has also been revealed that South Africa’s petrol price is ranked 40th most expensive in the world.

Check out the infographic below (and try not to get sick):
