New Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet Should Look Something Like This

Scheduled to debut on Wednesday in LA, the latest addition to the Mercedes-Maybach line-up will be based on the convertible version of the S-Class.

Maybach isn’t what it used to be, as Mercedes transformed it into a sub-brand with the launch of the latest-gen S-Class; but even so, the cars governed by the nameplate have a touch of exclusivity, separating them from Merc’s standard models.

Although the upcoming S650 Cabriolet won’t (probably) feature any significant design changes, only a slightly enhanced, chrome-trimmed front bumper and new wheels, it will most likely offer unique, highly customizable details that will make it more exclusive – similar to Bentley or Rolls-Royce’s programs.

We can tell you right off the bat that the red hue featured in the teaser video released by Mercedes isn’t available with the current range of S-Class cabriolet. The same could go for the interior trim and even the leather upholstery.

Visually, this rendering by X-Tomi probably depicts the upcoming car perfectly. There’s a chance it will sport unique wheels, instead of the ones shown in the CGI (which are borrowed from the W222 Maybach), and a different grille with the big Mercedes logo still governing it, but that’s about it.

Judging by the vehicle’s “S650” nameplate, it will probably sport the S65 AMG’s 630 PS (621 hp) 6.0-liter turbocharged V12. Yes, a 6.5-liter variant would be nice – especially as we’re talking about a Maybach – but Mercedes doesn’t currently offer such an engine in its line-up.

However, since only 300 units will be built, everything is possible.
