Do you prefer grand touring coupes over sport sedans? Like the sexier lines of a two-door better than the more utilitarian appearance of a four-door? Better yet, do you want the ability to dash cross-country at triple-digit speeds, with the wind in your hair from coast to coast? Good news, then: BMW is debuting new M6 coupe and M6 convertible models.

Both get the same twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V-8 used in the new BMW M5 sedan. In M6 duty, the engine is rated at 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, which BMW says is good for a 4.2 second run from 0 – 62 mph in a coupe equipped with BMW’s seven-speed automatic. Since the convertible will be a bit heavier and slightly less aerodynamic, BMW says you can expect a 0 – 62 mph run in 4.3 seconds, also with the seven-speed automatic gearbox. A six-speed manual transmission is said to be under consideration, although BMW won’t officially comment on it.

Ensuring that all that power gets to the ground, the M6 will come with BMW’s Active M Differential, which distributes power to both rear wheels based upon available traction. Buyers also get the M5’s Dynamic Damper Control and electronic stability control with a performance-oriented M Dynamic Mode.

Pricing will be released closer to launch, which is rumored to be early summer for the convertible M6 and late summer for the coupe.
