BMW’s 2012 M5 In Action

Let’s face it: Monday’s suck. The weekend’s over and you have five hellish days to slog through before you get another one. We feel your pain, even though we look forward to coming to work to play with cars, so here’s a video of the new-for-2012 BMW M5 showing what it’s best at. It won’t cure your hangover, and it won’t make up for the fact that the Giants / Colts / Jets / Bills /Falcons lost yesterday, but it just may give you the motivation you need to get through your day. Slackers don’t get to own M5s (unless they’ve got family money), so you’d best get back to it (after watching the video ) if you want to park one in your own garage.

Just in case you need a reminder, the 2012 BMW M5 drops last year’s V-10, in favor of a twin-turbo, 4.4-liter V-8. Power is up from 500 to 560 horsepower, and torque gets a boost from 380 to 502 lb.-ft., with peak torque available from just 1,500 rpm. That’s good enough for a 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) time of just 4.4 seconds, which is three-tenths of a second quicker than the outgoing car. Still not convinced the new M5 is an improvement? Word is that it’s lapped the Nürburgring in a time comparable to a Ferrari F430.
