|New BMW Active Tourer to be Unveiled July 12th||
BMW has announced that a production ready version of their all new, family-orientated Active Tourer Concept will be unveiled at the OutDoor Business Show in Friedrichshafen, Germany on July 12th.
The new concept from BMW made it’s debut in Paris in 2012. The new Active Tourer seems to have an emphasis on facilitating outdoor activities and blends elements of a crossover and a minivan. Perfect for family outings and vacations.
The original concept only has five seats, however, rumors are buzzing that BMW will release a different version with a third row of seating.

The German automotive company recently released a statement saying: “it is aimed at meeting the special needs of an outdoor and leisure time oriented target group,” and that it blends “comfort and dynamic design with a high level of spatial functionality and intelligent access to BMW ConnectedDrive services”.
All in all, the BMW Active Tourer is expected to be a practical, comfortable and more affordable vehicle. But we will have to wait until July 12th to find out!
|Infiniti Opens in Cape Town||
Infiniti, the luxury performance global automotive brand from Japan, officially opened their fourth South African centre in Cape Town on the 11th of June.
The all new Infiniti showroom allows the exhibition of the entire Infiniti model range plus equipment variants – the sleek Infiniti G Coupé and Cabrio, the compact and elegant EX SUV, the ultimate performance FX SUV (the best-selling Infiniti model in Europe) and the elegant Infiniti M sedan.
Numerous guests attended the official opening ceremony of Infiniti Cape Town in June. Guests were treated to an evening of fine food and entertainment. The evening event was presented by Alec Combrink, Dealer Principal for Infiniti Centre, Cape Town.
Infiniti continues to successfully expand into more markets with 450 retail outlets in place to date. The last five years has seen an acceleration in our expansion with the recent major expansions being Russia in 2006, China in 2007, Europe in 2008 and South Africa mid 2012.

|2013 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Review & Test Drive||
Retaining its place at the pinnacle of Subaru’s performance line-up is the new 2013 Impreza WRX STi. Remaining unchanged for the 2013 model year, the Subaru carries its thrilling road machine for another year with the same face, highly-praised 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel-drive system propelled by a 305 horsepower boosted flat-4-cylinder engine.
Subaru’s tradition lives on without any depart from what you expect out of the Impreza WRX STi. Drive one and you will surely think that all four wheels are on rails thanks to the remarkable limited-slip differential to manage power to the front and rear wheels.
It has been a long season for the Impreza WRX STi but it has carried its age well. Many of its key traits make it a serious competitor for its class setting forth a drivetrain that is hard to beat in more ways than one. The transmission, with 6 forward gears, short-travel clutch and tight gates, give you the assurance of shifting in milliseconds. The WRX STi’s rally characteristics really shine through and beg for you to extract all 305 horsepower peaking at 6,000 rpm and 290 ft-lbs. of torque at 4,000 rpm.
The boosted 2.5-liter flat-4-cylinder engine is unmistakable to the ear. Its unique idle and muffled purr is harmony to an enthusiast. Although, you will be pressed to drive like you stole it to really get the best bang due to such a narrow power sweet-spot. Driving the Subaru WRX STi will beckon you get the rpm needle above 4,000 rpm and below 6,000 to really get things moving quickly. It seems a bit of lag saps the fun out of the WRX STi especially when it takes an act of congress to even think about barking or breaking the tires loose.
Power output is decent but comes at a price in the form of getting only 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. During my drive of the 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Limited, I noticed the mpg figure to be somewhat inconsistent. At times I would see about 24 mpg on the highway and then it appears the ECU played some mind games at the same speed getting just 21 mpg. Around town tearing up the pavement with all four wheels biting down I could never beat 15.8 mpg.
The 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Limited, aside from its ride-on-rails handling, is apt to please ever-day commuters who wish to get a little dirty on weekend track days. The versatility of the WRX STi really puts the icing on the cake when it comes to boosting its value and perception on the road. Ride quality can be a bit bouncy due to the sport-tuned springs and dampers, unique to the STi model. Though, it is never too harsh at the point of being uncomfortable. The 18-inch BBS light-weight forged wheels wrapped in 245/40 sticky large-tread-patched summer performance tires not only add a unique sporty character on the outside, but they help keep the WRX STi firmly planted in the direction that you point the steering wheel.
Large Brembo brakes are a nice security blanket when you need to bring things to a stop. Even though you are not likely to upset the WRX STi laterally, it is still good to feel assured of its ability to stop in just 106 feet from 60 mph. Of course just the opposite, you will expect to reach 60 mph from a dead-stop in just 4.5 seconds. That figure allows you to hang with the big dogs costing twice the price of this 4-door AWD rally-inspired pocket-rocket. Tire spin is just about impossible, even when manually dialing-in the SI-Drive front and rear limited slip differentials, so expect that number to be rather consistent.
Seating positions are ideal in the WRX STi especially having two aggressively-bolstered buckets up front. The heated front seats in my WRX STi test vehicle proved to match the versatile demeanor and its suburb handling abilities without sacrificing comfort. The interior cabin, feeling a bit aged at this point in the game, has somewhat of a raw-finished emotion to it. Of course just about every surface you will find hard plastics, some coated with colors failing to make any type of noticeable contrast. To some the interior quality and visual perception won’t matter, as it does allow the harmonious sounds from the drivetrain to flow freely into the cabin. Perhaps the interior only adds to the appeal for die-hard enthusiasts who want to extract as much of the rally traits from the WRX STi as they can on public roads and occasional track days.
With each new model of the WRX STi, the latest generation introduction dating back to 2010 for a sedan variation brings about a new benchmark in the sport compact car segment. With the pricing starting at just $34,295 for a WRX STi and climbing to $37,645 for my WRX STi Limited edition, you get a good amount of raw performance for your money. Despite the Subaru Impreza WRX STi Limited still lacking interior refinement and a decent sound system, you still get the expected amenity basics like touch-screen Navigation, Satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, fog lights, HID headlights, power sunroof and awesome sport leather bucket front seats.

MAZDA UNVEILS ALL-NEW 2014 MAZDA3 VIA CONCURRENT INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
– Mazda’s Best-Selling Vehicle Worldwide Receives Complete Redesign –
NEW YORK (June 26, 2013) – The all-new 2014 Mazda3 compact five-door was revealed to the world today during an event in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. After weeks of media speculation and numerous “leaked” images of enthusiast renderings, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) pulled the sheet off the highly-anticipated redesign and confirmed the car will be on sale this fall. The all-new Mazda3 is engineered with the full complement of SKYACTIV® technologies – a proprietary suite of fuel-efficient, performance-driven components and manufacturing philosophies – as well as the handsome styling of the KODO design language. Other launch events also were held in Melbourne, Istanbul, St. Petersburg and London to debut the new vehicle, as well as celebrate the 10th year of Mazda3 production.
“With more than 3.5 million vehicles sold globally, the Mazda3 is the brand’s best-selling and most recognizable name plate, and its redesign for 2014 shows just how much attention to detail and care we put into this important vehicle,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and KODO have performed as advertised and received critical acclaim, with even more technologies and materials to be introduced with the 2014 Mazda3. Lower and leaner than its predecessor, this third generation Mazda3 shares almost nothing with its older siblings other than a name. All new from the ground up, the 2014 Mazda3 sits on a wheelbase of 106.3 inches, which is 2.4 inches longer than the previous generation, yet the five-door is 1.8 inches shorter in length at 175.6 inches. With a height of 57.3 inches and a width of 70.7 inches, the Mazda3 reduces its ceiling by 0.6 inches and gains 1.6 inches in the hips while retaining similar headroom space and offering rear legroom at 35.8 inches. The rear seatbacks are nearly 2.0 inches taller for added passenger comfort. Front and rear shoulder room also has increased to 57.2 and 54.4 inches, respectively. This efficient use of space is wrapped in the increasingly striking dimensions of KODO, Mazda’s “Soul of Motion” approach to designs that exude emotional proportions and refined strength.
Expressive and Enticing, Inside Out
Whether equipped with the standard 16-inch full-cover steel wheels or higher trim-equipped 16-inch and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, each set expresses dynamic motion from hub to rim. The Mazda3’s cab rearward posture and raked profile further emphasize agility and speed.
From the dynamic signature wing of the five-point grille to the expansive sheet metal cresting over sleekly slanted headlamps, from the wide-stance muscular fenders to the taut character lines flowing from panel to panel, sculpting into a chiseled rear featuring provoking taillights, KODO begets the Mazda3 a presence unlike any other. Yet such style is not without purpose as the five-door and sedan models achieve best-in-class coefficient of drag (Cd) at 0.275 and 0.255, respectively, when equipped with i-ELOOP and an active grille shutter. A new-to-Mazda feature, an active grille shutter is mounted in front of the radiator and automatically opens and closes in accordance with driving conditions to improve aerodynamic performance while contributing to real-world gains in fuel economy.
To be available in eight colors, including the premium metallic finish Soul Red Metallic, two all-new Mazda hues are introduced with Titanium Flash Mica and Deep Crystal Blue Mica.
The interior is no less impressive, starting with the driver-oriented cockpit. The pedals have been laid out symmetrically to the left and right of the driver’s center-line with a hinged organ-type accelerator pedal as standard for added safety and comfort. Designed not only to appeal to the senses, each control and function also is specifically placed with intuitive utility in mind. The less time spent focusing on adjusting knobs and tapping touch-screen commands, the more time a driver is engaged with the actual act of driving, being alert to what is on the road ahead and, therefore, being able to react quickly, accurately and safely.
For added precision, the base of the A-pillars have been repositioned 3.9 inches rearward to afford greater range of vision for both the driver and front passenger. The outside mirrors also are mounted onto the doors instead of the base of the A-pillar to expand the scope of visibility when looking over mirrors from the driver’s seat.
All-new for Mazda vehicles and being launched with the 2014 Mazda3 will be a next-generation human-machine interface (HMI) system. Based on the heads-up cockpit concept, the new HMI system aims to help drivers maintain proper posture, concentrate on the road and drive more safely, even while handling larger amounts of information. The information used is divided into groups, and an innovative screen layout is employed to let the driver safely balance the primary job of driving with other peripheral information.
The 2014 Mazda3 also is the first vehicle to feature Mazda’s all-new Active Driving Display, a clear pop-up panel that displays vehicle speed, navigation directions and other important driving information, and is vertically mounted behind the meter hood. This feature not only places necessary information comfortably in the driver’s line-of-sight but also directs the display beyond the instrument panel, more in line with where a driver’s eyes are naturally focused. The Active Driving Display panel will automatically fold back into a hidden position when the ignition is shut off.
The redesigned meter cluster features a centrally positioned analog gauge flanked by a pair of wing-shaped digital displays. The dial face for the center gauge is characterized by three-dimensional metallic numerals, evidence of the design teams’ attentiveness to detail, while its red-ring border pulses as soon as the driver’s door is opened, a nod to the vehicle’s inescapable sporty DNA. From the gauge clusters extends a decorative dash panel finished in satin chrome with piano black trim pieces adorning select areas of the center console and front door inserts.
The seat architecture has been redesigned with added focus on comfort and space, while at the same time reducing weight. For example, the front seat backs were further sculpted to provide rear seat passengers more knee room than the previous generation Mazda3, and shoulder room for all passengers increased as well. Additionally, the driver’s seat cushion was made larger, while still optimizing the seat back to create a more natural seating position with ample lateral support, a welcome adjustment for those prone to long drives.
Available in cloth (Black, Sand), leatherette (Black) and leather (Black, Almond) seat materials, the multitude of exterior and interior color combinations and accents further showcases the attention made to the finer touch points and to the varying degree of consumer preferences.
Stay Connected While On the Go
Mazda’s infotainment system receives its own sort of overhaul as well. With the increasing popularity of smartphones and tablet computers, lifestyles, and subsequently driving habits, have changed. To ensure that consumers can continue to be connected in real time with their online community regardless of where they are, Mazda has developed is new operating system to be intuitive and less distracting, which leads to an overall safer and more pleasurable driving experience.
The new operating system connects via Bluetooth® to a smartphone and can easily be updated to ensure users always have access to the latest features and services without the need to swap out hardware. In addition to the current music access points via standard AM/FM radio, CD and USB/auxiliary port connections and premium content such as Sirius® Satellite Radio, new features such as internet-based apps Aha by HARMAN™ will be available. An optional Bose® premium audio system with Centerpoint® 2 virtual surround sound playback will bring the harmonies and vocals to life for even the most discerning of audiophiles.
The system also can read email and short messages aloud while the vehicle is in motion using text-to-voice technology. Short Message Service (SMS) messages can be received and shown on the touch screen monitor. The system can then articulate the messages as well as allow users to send replies using fixed phrases. A new speech recognition system also allows users to repeat and shuffle audio tracks, as well as search and select folders. When connected with a smartphone, Twitter® and Facebook updates can be read by the system with audio responses available using the Shout function. The system also allows users to search the internet for locations and map directions. An SD card-based navigation system is optional.
SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY Leads the Way
The long relationship between Mazda, the brand, and Zoom-Zoom, the anthem, is no secret. Jinba Ittai, the oneness between car and driver, is a long-standing brand philosophy, an essence, which is built into every Mazda ever engineered – whether for leisurely drives within the cul-de-sac community or hot laps around a track. With the Mazda3, a vehicle that is sold in more than 120 countries and accounts for 30 percent of the company’s annual global sales, this connection is even more important and made even more precise.
For the North American market, the 2014 Mazda3 will be offered with two engine choices: the currently-offered SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a new SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine, as fitted to the CX-5 and 2014 Mazda6. Globally, the Mazda3 offers the widest SKYACTIV powertrain line-up in order to meet local market demands, and will be available with SKYACTIV-G 1.5- to 2.5-liter-sized gasoline engines, a SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter clean diesel engine and as a hybrid electric vehicle (Japan only).
Both engines feature a new high-tumble-port 4-2-1 exhaust system that increases engine output. The SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter produces 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 150 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. As compared to the outgoing MZR 2.5-liter engine, the torque output on the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter engine at low- to mid-range speeds is increased by 10 to 15 percent, and its weight is reduced by 10 percent. The SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter produces a peak of 184 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 185 lb-ft of torque at 3,250 rpm, both figures are increases of more than 10 percent over the MZR engine.
The 2014 Mazda3 will be available with a choice of the SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual and SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmissions. SKYACTIV-MT offers the short, crisp shift pattern reminiscent of the MX-5 Miata. SKYACTIV-Drive achieves a direct shift feel and quick gear changes that contribute to quick acceleration, while maximizing the best features of a direct-shift gearbox and a conventional torque-converter system.
Mazda’s unique i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system employs a capacitor to store electricity generated when the vehicle decelerates. Brake energy regeneration systems improve fuel economy by reducing the inherent parasitic drag of the alternator when possible, to maximize the efficiency of the vehicle under all modes of operation. Unlike other battery-based systems, i-ELOOP, its name derived from “Intelligent Energy Loop,” is the world’s first capacitor-based system to power all of a vehicle’s electrical components.
The added combination of the SKYACTIV-Body and SKYACTIV-Chassis enhances the Jinba Ittai spirit by offering high-performance, lightweight materials for added strength and safety. Carefully engineered load-transfer ensures a firm grip on the road that the driver can sense. The SKYACTIV-Body provides increased rigidity of 30 percent compared to the previous model while reducing weight as well.
Although variable from market to market, the expanded use of high tensile-strength steel, and the complete reevaluation of more than 300 separate components, has led to significant weight savings.
Straight line stability, tire grip and ride comfort have been greatly improved by tuning the suspension system’s springs, dampers and stabilizers. Mazda’s new mechatronic column-type electric power assist steering system is compact and lightweight, with a gearing ratio of 14.0:1. The brake response also was improved to be even more responsive, allowing for excellent vehicle control and feel as well as a braking distance amongst the best in the segment. Such improvements also reduce rolling resistance, all improving fuel economy.
A new lightweight material that exhibits a high level of noise absorption is introduced on the dash insulator and floor mats, and insulating material also is positioned for maximum effectiveness behind the instrument panel. These measures achieve a level of cabin quietness that is highly competitive within the compact car class, and fully comparable in a class-above vehicle.
Safety Features Without Compare
The 2014 Mazda3 introduces several all-new safety systems under the umbrella known as
i-ACTIVSENSE. These technologies use sensing devices such as milliwave radars and cameras to support the driver in recognizing hazards, avoiding collisions and minimizing damage, should accidents occur. While these systems will not eliminate accidents, their intent is to minimize them and reduce the severity of a crash.
The features available under i-ACTIVSENSE for North America are:
- High Beam Control (HBC) – The system automatically switches the headlamps between high and low beams.
- Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) – This safety confirmation system detects objects located in blind-spot areas to the sides and rear of the vehicle and issues a visual alert within the outside mirrors for the driver to see. Should the turn signal be on for the direction in which the “blind” object is located, audible beeps will alert the driver.
- Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) – This system monitors the lane markings on the road and issues a warning to the driver when it predicts that the vehicle is going to depart from its lane.
- Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW) – This system monitors the vehicle ahead and issues both audible and visual alerts to help the driver take evasive action when it determines a high risk of collision to exist. FOW operates when traveling between speeds of 9 and 92 mph.
- Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) – When traveling at speeds of less than 19 mph, SCBS helps prevent or minimize a collision with a vehicle. Should the imbedded laser sensor detect an object, and the system calculates there may be a high risk for collision, the brake pedal travel is reduced in order to hasten braking. Should the driver fail to perform an avoidance maneuver, the system will activate an automatic braking function.
- Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) – The system determines the difference in speed and distance to the vehicle in front and will automatically adjust the cruising speed in order to maintain a safe distance.
Mazda Proactive Safety is Mazda’s development concept, and it aims to help the driver avoid dangerous situations before they occur by minimizing the risks that can lead to an accident. Additionally, it maximizes the range of conditions in which the vehicle can be driven safely and with peace of mind.
The SKYACTIV-Body efficiently absorbs impact energy from any direction and minimizes the chance of the cabin structure being compromised. Other standard safety features on the 2014 Mazda3 include six airbags (front, side and full side-curtain), whiplash-reducing front headrests, power-assisted ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, daytime running lights, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), a Traction Control System (TCS), a collapsible steering column (following air bag deployment), a trunk entrapment release system, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), three-point safety belts for all seating positions, front seatbelt pretensioners with force limiters as well as Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH).

|The Ultimate Bugatti Veyron||
If you thought that you’ve seen the last of the Bugatti Veyron range, think again.
The French power house is reportedly set to launch a final, somewhat outrageous 1,500 horsepower Veyron that sources claim to be a “ fantasy in terms of its performance” early next year.
Unfortunately for us however, Bugatti is in no rush to get the model production ready, so we will have to wait patiently to be blown away.
The new Veyron is supposed to be the ‘ultimate’ ultimate Veyron. The current ultimate Veyron, the Super Sport, will have to take second place if reports of the performance specs and tecnology of the new Veyron is to be true.
The new Bugatti will introduce more weight saving technologies, more specifically the use of carbon fiber, in an effort to drop about 200kg off the Super Sport’s kerb weight of 1888kg.
It is also expected that we will see a significant and rather dramatic power increase. Bugatti reportedly plans to increase the current Super Sport’s horsepower of 1184, to 1500 horsepower. Now that aims to be one powerful car!
Current Ultimate: The 2013 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
Luckily it doesn’t seem that Bugatti has any intention of using an electric boost system. The new Veyron’s top speed will most likely be around an impressive 450km/h! This is and increase of 20km/h on the Super Sport’s 430km/h.
However, that new top speed will only be possible once the necessary tire technology is available. Which we do hope coincides with the launch of the new ultimate Bugatti.
The new voluptuous Veyron is expected to sell for around $7.7 million, or round about R77 million. It’s price tag definitely ensures that this will be a highly exclusive vehicle!
|2013 Volkswagen Passat S Review & Test Drive||
The all-new 2012 VW Passat won Motor Trend Magazine’s ‘Car of the Year’ award. They had good reason to award the new Passat the prestigious award because it is the only mid-size sedan that offers German engineering at an affordable price, a choice of three great engines, a 2.0 liter four-cylinder TDI clean diesel returning up to 43 mpg, a 2.5 liter five cylinder and a 3.6 liter VR6 cylinder engine, all mated to six-speed transmissions. The Passat also comes with exceptional comfort in back with class-leading rear-seat legroom that makes this five-seat mid-size family sedan one of the best selections a new mid-size sedan consumer can make. The trunk with a split folding 60/40 bench seat is also one of the largest in the segment.
I didn’t have the opportunity to test the all-new 2012 model but was privileged to test the new 2013 Passat in the base S trim with the Appearance Package that comes standard with the 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine mated to the six-speed automatic with sequential shifter, 16X6.5 inch alloy wheels wrapped with Continental 215/60R16 inch Conti Contac high-performance all-season radial tires, and a rear pull-down center console with dual cupholders and storage bin. The price is a very reasonable $22,945.00 for all of this plus a host of more comfort, convenient, connectivity, power, performance, safety and even several features only found on luxury sedans costing thousands of dollars more.
The exterior styling is low and wide with smooth corners that all help to keep aerodynamic drag to a minimum. The predominance of horizontal lines further enhances the low and wide stance. Up front is the VW brand’s 3-horizontal chrome blade grille with honeycomb lower air intake. Enhancing the look even further are the large headlight units forming a single unit. Down below is a splitter and flat underside to help keep the front end down and stable when traveling at high speeds on the highways.
From the side you’ll notice the swept-back windshield A-pillars and the muscular ridge in the sill area. Powerfully sculpted wheel-arches emphasize the dynamic properties of the Passat. These four wheel-arches have liners on the inside to keep noise from entering the cabin and to enhance aerodynamics. To accentuate the aerodynamic styling of the Passat, the roof lines flow toward the back with a nearly coupe-like cut of the rear window. Three side windows create luxury-class style with a long, extended glass surface. Also on the side are bodycolor pull-out door handles and aerodynamic-styled/manual folding/turn-signal repeater sideview mirrors.
The rear fascia is also dominated by horizontal lines. The lines of the large taillights rise toward the side, underscoring the dynamics of the elegant rear styling. Another unique feature here is the design of the two-part taillights that are integrated in the rear fender and trunk lid. Down below is a diffuser to help manage rear airflow to further enhance high speed stability. The all-new Passat cuts through the air with an outstanding 0.29 co-efficient of drag.
The Passat is a generously-proportioned four-door sedan perfect for any family. Nose to tail it measures 191.6 inches and featured a stretched 110.4 inch wheelbase and 72.2 inch width, which allows for such an exceptional rear-seat space.
The potent and refined 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine features a cast-iron block with aluminum heads, DOHC’s, four-valves per cylinder, chain driven with automatic tensioner, maintenance-free hydraulic lifters and variable intake timing. It produces 170hp at 5,500 rpm and 177 lb.ft. of torque at 4,250 rpm. It is mated to a smooth shifting five-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic with sequential shifting utilizing a dual-clutch that instantly engages and disengages gears without the need for a clutch pedal. With a special computer controlling the process, one clutch is engages on the next gear, while the clutch from the previous gear is released. This automatic also comes with a Sport setting that remaps the on-board computer to change gear quicker in automatic. Either way each is great for a more spirited drive when you want to speed up your heartbeat.
The Passat has been designed to feature the kind of dynamic, involved handling and precise steering that you come to expect from a Volkswagen. The new Passat may be a big car but it handles like a smaller sedan. The unique fully independent suspension features a strut-type setup with lower control arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers and anti-roll bar. The rear setup is a multi-link type with coil springs, telescopic dampers and an anti-roll bar. For a front-wheel-drive sedan the car is very neutral when cutting through curving roads. It is very well balanced and very stable at high speeds. The rack & pinion, hydraulic power-assisted steering system gives you pin-point accuracy when cornering and a great feel for the road. Standard electronic stability control and traction control keep you on track when taking the Passat to its cornering limits.
Quickly and safely slowing the Passat S down from speed are large, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Up front are 12.3 inch vented discs clamped with dual-piston calipers, and 10.7 inch solid discs clamped with single-piston calipers in the rear. Control during hard braking on slick or wet surfaces is enhanced with standard ABS and electronic brake pressure distribution.
The powertrain, suspension and braking systems are definitely world-class in every way and give you and your family comfortable, easy and fun-to-drive experience whether just taking care of personal and family activities, plus plenty of room for long weekend getaways.
The Passat was designed and specifically tailored for American tastes and American lifestyles. As a result the cabin of the Passat S delivers space and plenty of it. There’s room for five adults to really stretch out in comfort and with four large wide-opening doors, getting in and out is easy. Making it even easier is the four grab handles above each door. The layout is simple yet elegant. Nothing about the interior is trendy or over-done. The lines flow in a style that’s easy on the eye, complemented by the highest quality materials applied with careful attention to detail. The easy-to-see instrument panel is similar to the VW flagship model, the Touareg. The instrument cluster features aluminum trimmed gauges with the easy-to-use trip computer readout box in the middle. Aluminum trim is also found around the air vents, center stack, stick shift bezel, rotary light switch and all of the other dials, buttons and switches. Wide aluminum colored plastic trim is found on the dashboard and doors. The parking brake handle also features an aluminum button. The front bucket seats are very comfortable and supportive with excellent thigh support. The driver’s-side adjusts eight-ways, including lumbar. The cloth trimmed seats are very high quality. The steering wheel is the perfect side and features manual tilt/telescopic for the perfect reach and angle. It also includes buttons for the audio system and Bluetooth system surrounded by aluminum trim. The center console features dual cupholders and a padded storage box that is wide and deep for extra security of your everyday needed items. The glove box is locking and there is storage in each door bottom. Beside the luxury of real aluminum trim surrounds, all four windows are express up/down, a feature only found on the most expensive luxury sedans.
Standard features not mentioned above include: A/C, Hill hold control, central locking system, remote keyless entry, powered exterior mirrors, automatic headlights, 310-watt AM-FM-CD audio system with six speakers, dual map lights, sunglass holder, double pull-down inserts to make it easier to close the trunk, 60/40 split rear seat with trunk controls to fold each split flat, map pockets behind the front seatbacks, open storage underneath the center console, a pull-down rear armrest with dual cupholders/storage tray, remote trunk release, variable speed wipers/washers, cruise control and thick rubber floor mats for both rows of seats.
Standard safety features include driver/front passenger airbags, driver/front passenger side airbags, side-curtain airbags front/rear, 3-point safety belts for all five-seats, LATCH system for child seats, daytime running lamps, child safety rear door locks, tire pressure monitoring system and intelligent crash response system. Also, the Passat features a specially-reinforced safety cage, complete with anti-intrusion side beams and forged steel roof B-pillars plus front/rear crumple zones.
For a base price of just $22,945.00 and an EPA rating of 22 mpg/city and 31 mpg/highway, I received a combined 29.6 mpg after driving more than 450 city and highway miles; there is nothing else on the market for the money. The Passat S combines the best of world-renowned German engineering, innovation and safety that other mid-size sedans can only think of duplicating. The ride is rock solid, the interior is quiet, very pleasing to the eyes and touch, plus the safety systems are one of the best.

|Amazing Drifting Semi-Truck||
We all know that drifting a car is a pretty cool thing to do. Whether you want to impress your mates, the ladies or, just do it for yourself – drifting can easily make you feel like you are starring in The Fast and The Furious.
Have a look at this, mind-blowing stunt: This is a highly modified semi-truck that weighs about 4535kg or 4 and a half tonnes. It produces more than 2000 horsepower, which come from a six-cylinder, 14 liter supercharged diesel engine that is also paired to a turbo.

|Le Mans 2013||
This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans has been one of extreme excitement, thrilling cars, new records and, ultimately, sadness.
When it comes to record breaking, Tom Kristensen is the leader of the pack. Kristensen along with fellow drivers Allan McNish and Loic Duval, was the winning Audi team, and thus, this victory marks Kristensen’s ninth win at Le Mans – meaning he still firmly holds on to his already existing record.
This is Audi’s fourth consecutive win and twelfth overall at Le Mans. The Audi team crossed the finished line one lap ahead of the Toyota TS030.
The last bit of the race surely kept people on the edge of their seats. After 23 hours of stiff competition, the race became even more intense as the leading Audi and Toyota cars were on the same lap.
Fortunately for Audi, Kristensen was able to pass Sebastien Buemi’s Toyota with just minutes remaining to win by one lap over his rival.
Audi’s winning team:
Record-breaking champion, Kristensen, later dedicated his win to Simonsen, a fellow Dane. This was the first fatality at Le Mans since 1986 (another fatality occured in 1997, when Sebastien Enjolras crashed during pre-qualifying)
The organisers and sponsors were just as shocked and saddened as the Aston Martin. Managing director of Aston Martin racing, John Gaw said: ”I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the individuals, and families whose friends or loved ones were involved in today’s terrible tragedy”
In the end, Buemi finished in second position overall, giving Toyota its best-ever result at Le Mans. Third place went to the No. 3 Audi driven by Lucas Di Grassi, Marc Gene and Oliver Jarvis.
All in all – Le Mans 2013 was an exhilarating event that was sure to please car and racing fans worldwide!

|The 3 Million Mile Volvo||
Irv Gordon is a man that really loves road trips and someone who knows and respects quality.
Gordon has been driving the same Volvo P1800 since 1966 – which he bought brand new that year. The best thing about Gordon’s 1966 Volvo is not that it is a beautifully preserved, classic car – it is that Gordon has put nearly 3,000,000 miles on the clock! (That’s 4,828,032 kilometers for us!)
The 73-year old retired science teacher from New York City simply loves long distance driving. Before he retired, he used to drive 125 miles a day to work and back – or 201 kilometers a day just to get to work and back.
This daily commute obviously also contributed to his high mileage. Doing some simple calculations, Gordon put more than 62,000 miles on the car for every year of ownership in order to get to this point.

Gordon has had the same Volvo technician work on his car for the past 15 years, and says that that also contributes to the sustainability of the car.
But for Gordon, “It’s not about getting to the three million miles; it’s about the trips that got me to the three million miles. (I) never had a goal to get to one million, to two million. I just enjoyed driving and experiencing life through my Volvo.”
Gordon intends to hit the 3 million mile mark on a road trip to Alaska this September.

When the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray first dropped on the stage at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, we were all promised 0-60 mph time under 4 seconds. That held true for the Corvette Stingray and now that figure gets a bit better with the new Z51 package-equipped Stingray getting a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds. Additionally, the Z51 Performance Package, priced for an additional $2,800, the skidpad number reaches 1.03g.

DETROIT – Chevrolet released official performance estimates today for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the most capable standard Corvette ever. Equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package, the new Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, braking from 60 to 0 in 107 feet, and sustaining 1.03 g in cornering.
Cumulatively, the acceleration, cornering and braking capability of the Corvette Stingray enable it to lap the Virginia International Raceway’s (VIR) 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78.
“For the new Stingray, we set out to elevate every aspect of the Corvette’s performance,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “Considered alone, the acceleration, braking and cornering performance of the Corvette Stingray is truly impressive. More significant is how well they work together, resulting in a lap time at VIR that places the new Stingray in the upper echelon of all sports cars.”

The lap around VIR was conducted in Stingray equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control. The vehicle that conducted the lap was modified only with safety features like a racing seat and harness, and fire extinguisher system.
“The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident behind the wheel,” said Jim Mero, Corvette vehicle dynamics engineer. “That confidence encourages you to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well: the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble strips when you clip the apex,” he said. “It’s just addictive on the track.”
The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013 for a suggested starting retail price of $51,995, excluding tax, title, and license fees. The $2,800 Z51 Performance Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability. Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management is a $1,795 option. A Corvette Stingray equipped like the test car used at VIR would cost $56,590.

|2013 Infiniti QX56 Premium 4×4 Review & Test Drive||
Now in its third year of the current generation design, the 2013 Infiniti QX56 continues to offer an unmatched combination of power, strength and luxury style-capable of transporting up to eight adults and their cargo with spacious elegance. Its drivetrain is rugged enough to handle tasks such as towing boats or trailers with a towing capacity up to 8,500 pounds when properly equipped, while being equally at home transporting friends and family for a night on the town.
While there is no change to the exterior styling, powertrain, suspension or interior, Infiniti adds new optional safety systems to make you and your passengers as safe as possible on the road. These include auto-dimming rearview mirrors and the Moving Object Detection system added to the standard Around View Monitor. Optional Lane Departure Warning & Prevention and Blind Spot Detection systems are also optional now. Additionally, an upgraded remote control and interface has been added to the optional Theater Package with dual seven inch monitors behind the front headrests. My test QX56 came loaded with the optional Theater Package, Technology Package and Deluxe Touring Package with all of these options included plus a cargo mat, cargo net and first aid kit. The Tire & Wheel Package included the 22X8 inch 9-spoke forged alloy wheels wrapped with giant 275/50R22 inch Bridgestone Dueler all-season tires.
This new 2013 QX56 Premium 4X4 luxury sport utility is one of the biggest on the market. With such a large footprint and ultra-luxurious interior it looks to me like a ‘land yacht’-big and comfortable-an extension of your living room but on wheels to take you wherever you want.
The unique styling makes anyone taking a second look of its power and strength. The bold front chrome grille is flanked by automatic on/off bi-functional xenon headlamps with windshield wiper interlock and integrated front foglamps. Adaptive Front Lighting with auto-leveling headlamps and headlamp washer is optional and part of my test QX56. Other exterior features include LED taillights, heated/power-folding sideview mirrors with integrated turn signals, courtesy light and reverse tilt-down feature, gill slits on each fender, a full-perimeter chrome strip around the greenhouse, body color running boards make it easier to enter and exit the vehicle, body color integrated front and rear splashguards built into the wheel arches, roof rails to expand the cargo-carrying ability, power sliding tinted glass moonroof and a power liftgate. A front underbody spoiler, functional rear liftgate spoiler and redesigned side mirrors help provide aerodynamics of 0.36 Cd and zero lift. The 22X8 inch wheel and tire combination is the largest in the segment giving the QX56 a one-of-a-kind look.
The QX56 features a high-stiffness frame structure with large sill rail section width, connecting structures between each crossmember and side rails, an integrated rear hitch member, and a special rear body ring structure around the tailgate-all designed to help provide a quieter, more comfortable ride.
The advanced engine and transmission designs make for a combination of power, efficiency and refinement worthy of the Infiniti name. The 5.6 liter 32-valve DOHC aluminum alloy V8 features Infiniti’s advanced VVEL (variable valve event & lift) technology and Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) system. The VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response. Throttle response is enhanced by directly controlling the intake valve, rather than using the traditional method of controlling intake with the throttle valve. The VVEL system also offers improved emissions and fuel efficiency by reducing the intake resistance that occurs when the engine’s throttle valve opening is narrowed and output is low. The DIG system improved combustion stability, reduces engine knock and offers more precise injection control. This potent, high-tech engine pumps out 400 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 413 lb.ft. of torque at just 4,000 rpm. That is enough power and torque to propel the QX56 out to 60mph from a standstill in just 6sec. That’s not bad for a 5,865 pound full-size luxury sport utility vehicle.
Helping to move quickly is the standard 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and manual shift mode with Downshift Rev Matching. The QX56 comes standard with RWD but my loaded model came with the All-Mode 4WD system with Auto, 4H, 4L modes. The system is designed to distribute toque to all four wheels when road conditions warrant (up to 50% can go to the front wheels on demand), helping to enhance traction. All QX models also include Hill Start Assist that works by keeping the brakes engaged for a few second when you take your foot off the brake pedal when on a slope with no roll back. This enables you to more easily switch from the brake pedal to the throttle on steep inclines.
Putting all of the power and torque to the ground is the QX56’s incredible fully independent suspension system. It is a double-wishbone design front and rear with Dual-Flow Path twin-tube shock absorbers and an automatic rear leveling system that seeks to maintain uniform round clearance and departure angle when towing or carrying heavy cargo by automatically adjusting the air pressure in the system’s air bladders. It also is great when transiting from pavement to dirt roads. Additionally, an advanced Hydraulic Body Motion Control system comes standard with the Deluxe Touring Package that I had. The system helps to reduce body lean in turns resulting in an improved ride comfort for passengers in all three rows. Suspension travel is automatically controlled by hydraulic chambers integrated into each shock absorber. The chambers are cross-linked with piping, allowing for the transfer of hydraulic fluid managed seamlessly by nitrogen-charged accumulators from one side of the vehicle to the other. This enables the system to vary suspension travel independently on either side of the vehicle, thereby counteracting body lean making for a luxurious flat ride with pinpoint control. That pinpoint control is provided by the engine speed sensitive power-assisted rack & pinion steering system. It gives great feedback from the road with excellent on-center feel.
Excellent braking is provided by power-assisted steel disc brakes at all four corners. Each corner features a 13.78 inch vent disc with dual calipers up front and large single piston calipers in the rear. Your control during hard braking on slick or wet surfaces is assured with standard ABS, BA and EBD that works in harmony with the standard Vehicle Dynamic Control, 4-Wheel Active Limited Slip and Traction Control systems. With 400hp, a 7-speed automatic sequential 4X4 transmission, double-wishbone suspension and big brakes riding on 22X8 inch wheels and tires-who can surpass this unique combination?
The superb gear mentioned above is followed by a world-class interior with room for up to 8-peassengers with the available 60/40-split folding second row bench seat. You see leather, Mocha Burl trim on the dashboard, doors, center console and center stack. There is also plenty of aluminum trim and chrome trim pieces. The driver’s seat is 10-way power adjustable and the front passenger seat is 8-way power adjustable, with each side featuring power lumbar support. My test QX56 came with heated/cooled front seats and heated 2nd. row seats with a center console and dual cupholders. My QX56 also came with a remote release for the 2nd row seats to activate the tip-up function through a switch on the center stack. The 3rd. row is a 60/40-split folding design with power up/down switches in the rear and at each 3rd row seat. Also standard is a heated/Mocha Burl/leather-wrapped steering wheel with power tilt/telescoping and buttons for the audio system and radar sensing cruise control. When the 3rd. row seats are folded, the flat load floor offers a wide, versatile space for carrying cargo such as home furnishings or recreational gear.
The QX56’s long list of standard comfort and convenience features include nine cupholders, four door-pocket bottle holders, Tri-Zone automatic temperature control, Infiniti Intelligent Key with push button start/stop, Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges eight grab handles, dual map lights up front and rearing lamps for the second row seats and dual lighted vanity mirrors. The Touring Package also includes an Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster air purifier, Grape Polyphenol filter and auto recirculation. Also inside is an 8-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, Infiniti Controller for use with vehicle information systems and comfort and convenience features, and the Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System with NavTraffic with Real-Time Traffic Information, NavWeather with Real-Time Weather and 3-day forecast and Zagat Survey, and a Bluetooth hands-free phone system.
For 2013, the convenience of the standard Around View Monitor with front/rear sonar system is enhanced with the addition of the Moving Object Detection (MOD). Around View Monitor utilizes four small superwide-angle cameras-mounted on the front, side and rear of the truck-to provide a virtual 360-degree view of objects around the vehicle, helping to maneuver it in tight spots. The system uses advanced image processing to combine the images from the four cameras and provide a unique ‘Bird’s-Eye View of the vehicle’s surroundings. The new MOD function helps enhance your situational awareness by providing visual and audible warnings (front or back range object detection) if the system detects moving objects with the displayed image in situations such as when pulling out of a parking space. The system detects moving objects within the ‘top view’ (when the vehicle in is Park). When starting off or backing up, it detects moving objects such as another vehicle, crossing within the front or rear views.
More standard equipment not mentioned above with the Technology Package/Deluxe Touring Package and Theater Package includes all express windows, power door locks, sequential welcome lighting, auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers-washers, rear wiper/washer, map pockets behind the front seatbacks, four chrome tie-downs in the rear, Infiniti Voice recognition, USB connection port for iPod interface, 120-volt outlet, auxiliary audio/video input jacks, intelligent cruise control, distance control assist, forward collision warning, front pre-crash seat belts, and a 15-speaker Bose Cabin Surround Sound system with digital 5.1 decoding system. The Theater Package includes dual 7-inch color monitors, two wireless headphones and wireless remote control.
Standard safety features not mentioned above includes Infiniti Advance airbag system with front airbags and seat-mounted side airbags, roof-mounted curtain airbags for all three rows, 3-point height-adjustable seatbelts for all outboard rows, front-seat active headrests, LATCH system for child seats, child safety rear door locks, tire pressure monitor system, front/rear crumple zones and steel beams in each door.
WOW! The new 2013 Infiniti QX56 4X4 has it all to keep any luxury full-size sport utility vehicle owner happy with plenty of power, performance, luxury, convenience and the latest in innovative safety systems. Like any full-size luxury sport utility vehicle the price is steep-my QX56 4X4 with all of options cost $78,140.00 including destination. On drawback is the low mpg specs-14mpg/city and 20mpg/highway, but after spending over $75,000.00 for the vehicle I don’t think that filling up the tank each week will dent the wallet.

It’s believed that this Lamborghini Aventador has not undergone the engine upgrades found on the Lamborghini Aventador LP760-4 Dragon Edition – also by by Oakley Design and Refined Marques.
The reason being that it doesn’t feature the HRE wheels of that model and neither its more aggressive rear diffuser.

|The Lamborghini Gallardo Replacement Concept to Premier in Frankfurt||
According to reports, the Lamborghini team will have a concept car in Frankfurt that will preview a 2015 replacement for the current Gallardo.
The word on the street is that the Italian supercar maker is still considering “Cabrera” as the Gallardo-successor’s name.
This means that the “Cabrera” will feature a modular spaceframe, aluminum and carbon fiber construction and a reduction in curb weight – the target is less than 3,300 pounds. Even with the loss of weight, the next Gallardo will be slightly longer than the current car, but about the same height and width.

This sleek Lamborghini will draw power from an updated version of the current 5.2-liter V10, which should be good for more than 600 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It is also believed that the new Gallardo will feature a six-speed manual transmission as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This will replace the existing six-speed E-gear automated manual on the current Gallardo.
We can’t wait to see the “Cabrera” in action!

|2014 BMW 4 Series Coupe Images Revealed||
Just before an official reveal, the images of the upcoming 2014 BMW 4 Series leak onto the internet and we have them to share with you below.
The all-new 2014 BMW 4 Series is slated to replace the current 3 Series coupe. The range will start off things with a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine in a 428i model and then go to the range-topping 435i featuring the 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder. Of course in true BMW fashion you will be able to select an M Sport trim. Of course we will still away the aggressive M4 to drop at a later date, but for now we get the idea on what the 4 Series will look like and can draw our own speculations for an upcoming M4.
