|2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible Review & Test Drive||
Infiniti has pulled out their arsenal to battle with any other manufacturer that sells a hardtop convertible. Ever since the redesign of the Infiniti G Coupe, the introduction of a hardtop convertible has made perfect sense. The Infiniti G37 convertible is a good-looking machine wrapped in technology, performance and luxury.
Due to the good weather we’ve recently been experiencing in Florida, we were able to let the top down on several occasions with our Infiniti G37 convertible test vehicle. Not only do you get to have some fun in the sun, but you get to do it in style. The smooth sheetmetal curves of Infiniti’s G makes for one of the best looking cars to come out of Japan in the recent years.
Aimed directly at Lexus ISC (IS convertible), which is also a great looking vehicle, the Infiniti G37 convertible manages to have a leading edge over the IS in terms of performance. The Infiniti G convertible has Nissan’s popular VQ series 3.7-liter V6 engine, also found in the 370Z, that produces 325 horsepower and 267 foot-pounds of torque in the G convertible. That power is directed through either a 6-speed manual as equipped on our test car or a fast shifting 7-speed automatic. The automatic can be shifted manually via magnesium shift paddles mounted on the steering column with the optional sport package.
Enthusiasts can clearly expect certain things from Infiniti vehicles such as one of the best navigation units offered by an automotive manufacturer, and being one of the first to implement new advanced road-safety features. Across the line Infiniti offers these amenities even in their one and only drop-top G.
Our test vehicle was equipped with the Navigation package, which includes 3-D building graphics, streaming audio through the killer Bose stereo system, 9.3GB Music Box hard drive, and even a Zagat (Survey restaurant reviews for finding the best eatery along your destination). All of these goodies are controlled either through the touch-screen LCD redundant dashboard controls, or even via the steering wheel mounted buttons. Infiniti has done a great job in giving the driver different options for operation of the many tech gadgets offered in their lineup.
For a convertible vehicle, the Infiniti G37 has an excellent Bose stereo that incorporates headrest-mounted speakers. Since Bose is supposed to be one of the best in the market for directing sound in certain directions thought otherwise to be near impossible, the Infiniti G37 convertible’s sound system is superb.
The many downfalls of a hardtop convertible can also be found in the Infiniti G37 such as limited trunk space and small back seat room, which is only good for a handbag or two. Despite all of the other gripes that you may hear about hardtop convertibles, the Infiniti G37 convertible does not suffer from them. These are things like rattle noises and a clunky operation of the top. The Infiniti G37 convertible feels almost as solid as the coupe version. The front windows go down with the rear-side windows when opening the top and full close-to-open as well as open-to-close time is about average.
On the road, the G37 convertible behaves similar to its coupe counterpart. The difference in the two emerges when you start to push the G to the limit in turns as well as during acceleration. You can feel the extra weight used to reinforce the G convertible along with the hardtop mechanics. Bottom-line, performance is somewhat hindered but it does not completely take away from the excitement you get when you drive any G whether it be the sedan or coupe. The short throw 6-speed manual transmission on our test car has little to do with that excitement factor. 0 to 60mph time in the G convertible is about 6 seconds, a little shy of the coupe’s 5.4 second time.
In terms of handling and styling in a hardtop convertible, the Infiniti G 37 knocks it out of the park. But be prepared to spend a good amount for that type of marriage. Our test vehicle came in at $50,035. You can, however still get a base Infiniti G37 convertible $44,350 but that’s without the tech goodies. All in all, if I had to choose a hardtop convertible luxury sports coupe, it would be the G37 convertible for sure.

|Pagani Zonda R Super Track Car – Exhilarating Ride||
A recent episode of the popular, long-running British television motor show, Fifth Gear featured the Pagani Zonda R super track car, which was checked out for speed via a test drive. To start off, the car is a beauty to behold, and the outstanding performance that was exhibited through the program makes this one vehicle that speed freaks will absolutely need to have.
Expertly driven by a host who used to be a professional race driver, the Zonda R had its limits tested. And with style and form, it held its own to come out distinctively as a class act – decisively occupying a space that no one else dares encroach upon.
|Porsche Panamera Tuned by TECHART; Called GrandGT||
After an extensive tuning job at the hands of the German tuner TECHART, the Porsche Panamera is now out as a version they are calling the GrandGT. Reports say that the newly tuned version will be seen in Switzerland next month at the Zurich Auto Show.
Outfitted with a power upgrading kit – the TA 070/T1 – which gives it 580 PS (426 kW / 572 bhp) on the 4.8 liter twin-turbo engine, up from the series’ 500 PS (368 kW / 493 bhp). It now has an increased torque -830 Nm (612 lb-ft) from the standard 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) and gets to 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.8 seconds
TECHART has given the vehicle a fibre-reinforced material body kit – a mix of carbon, glass-fibre-reinforced plastic and polyurethane RIM components.
The front bumper has LED daytime running lights are embedded into it and also features an integrated splitter ventilation intake.
Also in place are the TECHART sport exhaust system and a choice of light-alloy wheels from 20 to 22-inches.
Typical of TECHART is the fact that their version definitely stands out in a crowd – and in this vehicle it is the Aero carbon fibre bonnet with integrated air outlets which adds to its distinct look.
The side skirts and fender flares also add to its style, and also widen the car by 21 mm at the front wheel arches and 42 mm at the rear axle.
|BMW X1 M Package Spied||
Spy photos of the BMW X1 M Package have surfaced. Not too many details were visible, thanks to the extensive, well done camouflage that was in place. What’s obvious from the pictures is that the M Package has modified the side sills, redone the rear bumper and also added a revised front fascia. Also spotted were unique wheels, a paint job in monotone and Shadow Line trim.
The interior is likely be equipped with a sport steering wheel. Seats will be sporty, an M gear knob will be active and the cabin will have an anthracite headliner.
The car is to be launched next year, and price details are likely to be revealed in the coming months.
|Nissan to Recall Over 2 Million Vehicles for Faulty Ignition Relay||
If you are like me, you are probably sick of hearing about vehicle recalls this year. To add to the anguish, Nissan has just said that they will be repairing about 2.14 million vehicles due to a faulty ignition relay that could cause the engine to stall or fail to restart. The fix should be somewhat of an easy task only taking 25 minutes to complete per vehicle by swapping out the faulty relay for a new one.
The Nissan ignition relay recall affects Nissans from all over the world built from August 2003 to July 2006. The effected units include 835,000 vehicles in Japan alone, while the U.S. and Canada make up for a total of 762,000 units. The specific models involved in the recall are year 2004 to 2006 Nissan Armadas, Titans and Infiniti QX56s and model year 2005 to 2006 Nissan Frontiers, Pathfinders and Xterras manufactured between August 2003 and June 2006.
Nissan will begin to ask owners to bring in their vehicles to dealerships for the repair in December. “At Nissan, we’re committed to the safety and satisfaction of our customers. We regret any inconveniences that our customers may experience as we address this issue,” said Kevin Martin, a Nissan vice president.
So far no related accidents have been reported from the faulty ignition relay issue.

“Yeniceri Edition” World Record Lamborghini Murcielago from Unicate
Unicate are known for taking their exclusive automobile tuning to extremes and their latest creation is certainly no exception to that rule. It is a 2009 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 and Unicate have named it the “Yeniceri Edition”.
The Yeniceri is named after an elite fighting troop of soldiers from the Ottoman Empire – the best of the best. Their name alone would strike fear into the hearts of anyone that heard it and the thunderous sounds that they made as they approached would send people into panic.
The exhaust system of the “Yeniceri Edition” has the same effect as it gives out an amazing 120db whilst standing still. The exhaust system has been newly developed using the original tailpipes and increases the performance in the region of 20PS.
The ride itself has been lowered by about 1 inch (20mm) which is amazing considering the size of the wheels that it has. The Unicate Wheels “ConcavTen” have a Chrome outer lip whilst the center and Inner lip have a Matt Black finish to match the body work. The wheels on a ride like this are usually 8,5×20 with 2 inch outer lip and 235 tires on the front and 13×20 with a 6 inch outer lip and 335 tires on the rear. Unicate had other plans however and have managed to fit 10,5×20 with a full 4 inch outer lip and 285/25 ZR 20 tires titeson the front and a massive 13,5×21 with a 6 inch outer lip and 375/25 ZR 21 on the rear which surely makes this Lamborghini a world record car.
Cem Altun, CEO and founder of Unicate and the MEC Design Group, said “We wanted to take the wheels to the extremes and wanted to give it a wider wheel on the rear but there aren’t any tires wide enough. It’s great! It drives much better now than when it had the smaller original wheels on, it’s much more sportier now and you have the real feeling of driving a safer sports cars.”
Unicate have incorporated LED Daylight driving lights into the front grill under the bumper as well as adding 5 LED lights underneath each of the side skirts. The engine compartment hasn’t missed out either and now features LED lighting which shows off the beautiful Lamborghini engine.
The interior gets an overhaul as well as Unicate have designed a completely new carbon fibre and leather sports steering wheel. Nothing is spared as the carbon fibre finish also features throughout the interior with the speedometer housing, gear paddles, heating-/ radio housing and the middle console also having the high class finish.
Unicate have finished it off with a music system that has 2 way-system-boxes, amplifier and bass case. Whichever way you look at it, the sound that it produces whether from the stereo or from the newly developed exhaust, it will be enough to send other tuning companies running for cover before they get chance to see just how unique the “Yeniceri Edition” Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 looks. Unicate take some of the finest automobiles available in the world, restyle and upgrade them to make them simply – Unique.
|Fiat Mio FCC III Concept Makes the Driver a Passenger||
The Sao Paulo Motor Show saw the unveiling of Fiat’s Mio FCC III concept. What makes the vehicle special is that it was created through the process of ‘crowdsourcing’. This is a process whereby the company took the help of thousands of people who contributed their ideas and feedback online.
Few details of the vehicle were released – it is known that the size of the vehicle is 2489mm (98 inches) in length. It possesses a front fascia with definite personality, a panoramic glass roof, and also has wheel covers which promise better aerodynamics.
The interior has comfortable sofa-style seating and a high-tech infotainment system. There were no details about the engine or performance, but Fiat is reported to have said that the car has been designed to enable the driver also to enjoy being a passenger, with the vehicle being controlled through intelligent means.
Now that alone would make car fans eagerly wait to hear more about the Mio. Watch the gallery here .
|Rally Fighter Production to Start Soon at Local Motors||
Local Motors plans to introduce the production of their Rally Fighter. The vehicle was made by a group of car enthusiasts who designed it from scratch. This open source project provides information on the chassis and body data of the vehicle free of cost as downloads – which will make modifying the vehicle really easy for those who wish to do so.
The Rally Fighter has a tubular steel space frame chassis that is powdered-coated, an off-road suspension (with a detachable front stabilizer bar and up to 20 inches of travel), and also has a high performance braking system.
The vehicle is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 430 hp (321 kW / 436 PS) and 424 lb-ft (574 Nm) of torque, which is connected to an automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels
Many of the components – nose, rear, underbelly and floor pans- are made of carbon fiber, which has contributed greatly to reducing the weight of the vehicle. The exterior is vinyl-wrapped weighing 12 lbs (5 kg) less than a painted one. Thanks to these modifications, the car weighs approximately 3,200 lbs (1,451 kg).
Although final pricing details have not been revealed yet, it is expected to be above $50,000. But those who wish to own one can place a $99 deposit and reserve their Rally Fighter.
|Subaru Forester tS for Japanese Market Unveiled||
The Forester tS model from Subaru that will be available in the Japanese market has been shown to the public. The Forester tS seems to have some similarities to the S-Edition concept vehicle from Subaru that was displayed recently at the Australian Motor Show.
The 2.5 liter Boxer engine turbocharged to 263 PS (193 kW) and 347 Nm of torque on the Forester tS was seen on the S-Edition concept.
The main difference is that while the concept has not moved forward, the Forester tS will definitely be getting into the production stage, at least for the Japanese market.
Sources say that the model will have a specially tuned suspension which will include STi-tuned dampers and springs and flexible front and rear sway bars.
As per information received, only 300 units of the Forester tS will be made, and they will be available only in Japan.
|Taking ‘Epicness’ Back a Decade: BMW M5 E39 Commercial||
We are taking it back a bit, about a decade, to the year 2000 when BMW decided to introduce an even better and faster sports sedan known as the (E39 body style) M5. Over the years the M5 has evolved from its historic roots recently sporting a naturally aspirated V8 producing 400hp and the outgoing, but infamous, high-revving V10 that produced 500hp. Now upon the horizon we see evidence of a twin turbo V8 with about 600hp (rumored 2012 BMW M5). The video below is just one moment in time where we all became bug-eyed from BMW’s 400hp V8 powerplant in one of the most sought-after sports sedans on the planet during the early 2000’s. The video below is an epic car commercial, one of the best around, of the E39 BMW M5. Enjoy!
|BMW Issues Recall for Turbocharged N54 Engine Equipped Vehicles||
You may have already been reading surprising information on BMW vehicles powered by the N54 turbocharged inline-6 engines about them having a defect regarding the high pressure fuel pump. Recently ABC News posted a story about many owners complaining of losing power while driving in certain vehicles equipped with the N54 engine due to a malfunctioning fuel pump forcing their car into ‘limp home’ mode. After the story, BMW announced they will be performing a recall on various vehicles including 2007-2010 135, 335, 535, X6, Z4 and 20,000 2008 X5s.
ABC is said to be continuing their investigation of the matter as well as the NHTSA. So far there have not been any related accidents or deaths from the matter, only a large amount of discouraged BMW owners. Some of angry owners are ‘repeat offenders’ for visiting the service department for the same issue that so far BMW has failed to completely resolve until now.

BMW Recall Press Release [source: BMW]
BMW to Conduct Voluntary Emissions and Safety Recalls
* Press Release
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 26, 2010… BMW of North America has notified the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of its intent to conduct a voluntary recall of some model year 2007-2010 BMWs equipped with twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines, all of which feature BMW’s High Precision Injection direct fuel injection system. It has also asked for approval from the California Air Resources Board to conduct this action. Affected vehicles may experience a failure of the high-pressure fuel pump.
Symptoms include long-crank engine starting times along with the illumination of the “Service Engine Soon” light. In certain cases, the driver may experience reduced engine performance in a Safe Mode accompanied by a tone and the illumination of the “Engine Malfunction” light.
Based on the individual service history of the vehicle, the action will entail replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump and/or a software update.
Approximately 130,000 vehicles are potentially affected with about 40,000 expected to require a new high pressure fuel pump. Affected BMW models include:
* MY 2007–2010 335i models.
* MY 2008–2010 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupes
* MY 2009 – 2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i
In a separate action, BMW has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will voluntarily recall approximately 20,800 MY 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles equipped with normally-aspirated inline six-cylinder engines to replace the low-pressure fuel pump. In this case, should the fuel pump experience a failure, the engine will stop running and the driver will lose power assist for the steering and brakes although both the steering and the brakes remain operational.
Letters will be sent by First Class mail to owners of affected vehicles in the coming weeks, requesting the scheduling of a service appointment with an Authorized BMW Center to have the update performed.
No injuries have been reported with either of these issues.
In the case of either issue, if the customer experiences a problem, they should contact their authorized BMW Center. Customers with additional questions should contact BMW Customer Relations at 1-800-563-4269 or email CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com.
