|Nurburgring in the USA: Car and Driver Intros 2013 Lightning Lap Contenders at VIR – Video||
Ever since lap times at the Nurburgring became a benchmark for a vehicle’s over-all performance, there has been a need to find a ‘benchmark’ track in the USA. Car and Driver, along with many other enthusiasts, think we already have such a track, the Virginia International Raceway (VIR).
Virginia International Raceway seems to be the ideal choice for testing a vehicle’s over-all performance dynamics. With the elevation changes, the Grand West Course’s 4.1 miles, 28 turns and proven effectiveness to challenge experienced race car drivers, VIR is the ideal home-grown Nurburgring. Car and Driver sets out to VIR for their Lightning Lap annual track torture test and brings us the official preview to the dueling test along with a run-down of the contenders. Enjoy the video below!
|Corvette ZR1 Dukes It Out with Ferrari 458 Italia & McLaren MP4-12C: Video||
The new Corvette ZR1, Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C are closely matched supercars. The three kings, as Road & Track calls them in their latest comparison video, are pitted against each other in a series of tests. Each of the vehicles has their own performance attributes and tends to lay down comparable horsepower numbers to the pavement through their rear wheels from a V8 engine. Road & Track took the three beastly vehicles out with the help of former IMSA champion Steve Millen and Hennessey Performance for some ‘testing’.
The 592 horsepower 3.8-liter turbocharged V8 McLaren MP4-12C is a one-of-a-kind supercar. The Ferrari 458 Italia’s 562 horsepower 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 screams just like its F1 siblings. The Corvette ZR1, costing over $100K less than its Euro rivals, remains to be the king of straight-line performance mainly due to its massive 6.2-liter 639 horsepower supercharged V8. Can the ZR1 hang with the European exotics in other tests? Hit up the full test video from Road & Track below to find out.

|Ferrari Announces Anniversary Edition 458 Italia For The Chinese Market||
It’s been 20 years since Ferrari sold its first car in China, and from those humble beginnings a giant market has emerged. In 1992, Ferrari sold a single 348 TS in China, but last year the brand moved 777 cars, making China its second largest global market.
That kind of demand warrants attention, so Ferrari is opening a brand center in Shanghai’s World Expo Park. The Ferrari Exhibition will feature displays on loan from the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, and it will focus specifically on five areas: Ferrari in China, Green Technology, Products, Design and Racing.
Ferrari is also kicking off a limited production 458 Italia to mark its 20th anniversary in China, and the car is styled more for Chinese tastes than for Western preferences. The color, called Marco Polo Red, is all new and was created specifically for the anniversary edition car. Gold features prominently in the car’s livery, and is used both on the wheels and in the graphics. Those graphics include a large golden dragon on a black background, splayed across the hood, as well as a black and gold stripe that crosses the hood and rear deck lid.
Inside, headrests are adorned with gold stitching, and a number plaque identifies your car as one of just 20 built. There are no performance upgrades, so the special edition 458 Italia is essentially just a paint and trim package, designed to represent the “vigor and spirit of the legendary dragon horse.”
It’s not our taste in cars, but Ferrari hasn’t seen the same level of growth from the U.S. as it has from China. Besides, we have no doubt that all 20 anniversary edition cars will sell out long before they hit a Ferrari dealer’s showroom.

|Mysterious Ferrari 612 Prototype Spotted Outside Maranello||
A mysterious 612 Scaglietti replacement prototype was spotted outside Maranello, the home place of Ferrari S.p.A and the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One racing team, in northern Italy. It was caught by a member of the Ferrari Chat forums.
This heavily camouflaged vehicle has got many a Ferrari features that has in turn led to a big confusion. It appears to have front lights inspired by Ferrari 458 Italia, rear glass like that of 599 Fiorano, a four-tailpipe exhaust system, a prominent hatchback, the noise of the vehicle resembles that of V12.
Well, all these features appear to be pure exaggeration as compared to the early reports. The rear hatch is supposed to a part of the camouflage, according to the photographer.
Ferrari 612 will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. It is likely to feature an advanced all-wheel drive system, a seven-speed double-clutch transmission and a 6.3-liter V12 engine with 670 hp (500 kW / 679 PS), which enables it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 335 km/h (208 mph).
|Teaser: Underground Racing Twin-Turbo Ferrari 458 Italia||
It was only a matter of time before someone took on forced induction on the new Ferrari 458 Italia. Who other than Underground Racing to tackle the task of slapping two turbos onto the most powerful production V8 engine to wear the prancing horse emblems.
No detailed specifications have been officially released on Underground Racing’s new twin-turbo Ferrari 458 Italia project. We should obviously expect some ridiculous numbers considering the stock 4.5-liter V8 found in the 458 already puts out 562 horsepower. With the help of two turbos, we may soon witness one of the fastest Ferraris on the street. You wont have to worry about hot glue lighting a fire under your ass, Underground Racing seems to have that covered in the form of some serious horsepower. I know I can’t wait for the performance numbers and video of this beast in action!
Check out an older video of Underground Racing’s twin-turbo F430 Spider with 1000 horsepower below.

|Ferrari 458 Spider GTS With Retractable Glass Roof Rumored||
Reportedly Ferrari will be launching a new 458 Spider GTS with a retractable glass roof. The 458 Italia was already rumored previously to sport a soft-top but now reports have hinted towards a retracting glass top similar to the one found on the 575 Superamerica. In such a system the glass roof would slide behind the passenger compartment.
There is no doubt that we will soon see some variant of a Ferrari 458 Spider/Convertible.

|Top Gear Video: Clarkson Reviews Ferrari 458 Italia||
Who would have ever thought of a time that Jeremy Clarkson would enjoy what he calls the “floppy paddle” gearbox. In the current season of Top Gear Jeremy gets behind the wheel of the new Ferrari 458 Italia and starts his typical complaints about the way the controls are laid out on the steering wheel. But after he unleashes the power that the 458 has to offer, his outlook begins to change. He totally goes ape sh*t over what he discovers in the new 458 Italia after putting it into the corners. They even match the 458 Italia against James May’s Ferrari F430 in a drag race. Check it out for yourself in the Top Gear video below! Enjoy!
