Smart Celebrates 10 Years In USA With Special Electric Fortwo 10

It’s been 10 years since Smart started selling its cute city cars in the U.S. market and to celebrate the occasion, the company will launch a special 10th Anniversary Edition of the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive.

Bound to debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, the special Fortwo electric drive coupe features an exclusive Sapphire Blue metallic paint job that expands to its trademark Tridion safety cell and front grille.

A set of 16-inch Brabus Monoblock VII wheels finished in Anthracite Grey together with the more aggressive-looking Sport Package round up the differences on the outside while the interior comes with a Brabus shift knob and custom floor mats.

For 2018, Smart becomes an all-electric brand in the US, offering both the hardtop and convertible versions of the Fortwo as pure EVs. Power comes from an 80hp electric motor paired to a 17.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The total driving range is EPA-rated at 58 miles for the hardtop and 57 miles for the convertible version.

Smart says that the electric Fortwo can be fully charged in 3 hours when plugged into a 240V/32A fast-charger. Use a wallbox and the time to recharge the battery up to 80 percent of its capacity is 2.5 hours.

The new 10th Anniversary edition of the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Coupe will be available as a $1,950 option after it makes its public debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show.

Visiting Germany? Check Out Brabus’ New Flagship Showroom In Düsseldorf 27

Automotive enthusiasts have lots to do and see in Germany: blast down the autobahn, muscle around the Nürburgring, tour the automakers’ factories and museums. Now we can add one more to the list: visit the new Brabus showroom.

In fact 10,000 people have already done just that – not in the past year, or even the past month, but in the past eleven days.

That’s how long it took to welcome the 10,000th visitor to KÖ90, the new flagship store opened jointly by Brabus and British yachtbuilder Sunseeker at Königsalle 90 in Düsseldorf, just 30 miles from Brabus headquarters in nearby Bottrop.

Spread over 4,300 square feet at the southern end of the city’s swankiest boulevard, KÖ90 showcases a array of Brabus-tuned contemporary Benzes and comprehensively restored classics – everything from a vintage SL to a new 650-horsepower S-Class convertible, from a customized Smart to a luxed-out Sprinter. There aren’t any yachts docked inside, but prospective customers can explore the range of possibilities with a sales consultant on site.

The 10,000th visitor, Cathrin Hennemann from the Lower Rhine region, was welcomed by Brabus CEO & founder Bodo Buschmann with a glass of champagne and a VIP tour. She visited on Saturday, December 23 – just 11 days after the location opened on December 12.

To put that number into perspective, consider that Ferrari welcomed a record 500,000 visitors between its two museums in Maranello and Modena this year – which works out to a little over 7,500 per day, per museum. And those are entire museums, run by one of the most recognized brands in the world, right in the heart of Supercar Valley. This is a dealership, run by a tuner, in Europe’s 39th (Germany’s 7th) biggest city.

It must be worth seeing in person then. But if you can’t make it to Düsseldorf, Brabus has similar locations in LA, Miami, London, Moscow, Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai, and Tokyo.

One Of Ten Ultimate Sunseeker Is A Brabus Fortwo With Maritime Flair 18
Dec

Brabus, together with Sunseeker Germany, built a limited edition “One of Ten” Ultimate 125, fitting it with a heavily customized interior.

While this car does feature a few stickers on the outside, letting you know it’s not your run of the mill Brabus Fortwo, it’s the interior that really sticks out thanks to the luxurious maritime theme.

We wouldn’t blame you for thinking that luxury yachts and tiny city cars don’t have a whole lot in common, and yet, the cabin of this limited edition Fortwo looks pretty special, even compared to the stock Ultimate 125’s interior.

It’s got dual-tone leather, carbon fiber bits used throughout the dashboard, and a pair of very special floor mats that may or may not inspire you to go sailing.

As for what it can do in a straight line, we’re talking 125 PS (123 HP) and a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 9.2 seconds. It will also do 175 km/h (109 mph), which may not sound like a lot, until you consider the shape and size of the car.

Smart Car To Be Phased Out From Car2Go Fleets 16
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in Reports, smart, smart fortwo on 11 16th, 2017

Car2Go has confirmed that it will slowly start to phase out the Smart ForTwo models currently in its North American fleet.

The company has been planning the move for many months now and it comes shortly after Daimler revealed that the ForTwo will soon only be sold in all-electric guise in the U.S.

Instead of adopting the new electric Smart with its 60-mile range, Car2Go will overhaul its fleet with Mercedes-Benz CLA and GLA models. Fortunately for those Car2Go users that like using Smart cars, the latest-generation models will remain in service for a while. The older Smart ForTwo vehicles will be replaced first.

Speaking to Jalopnik, a Car2Go spokesman said the service remains open to using new Smart models in the future.

“We’d love to continue to offer a Smart or similar size vehicle again if and when that becomes an option once more.

“And again, we’ve got a lot of new-gen Fortwos in NYC, DC, Montreal, Toronto, Columbus and Vancouver that will be in service for quite a while. While no other car is as nimble at fitting into tiny city street parking spaces as the Smart, both the CLA and GLA are compact cars. GLA is about a foot shorter than a CLA,” the spokesman said.
