BMW has given its two compact MPVs, the 2-Series Active Tourer and 2-Series Gran Tourer, a lot of updates for the new MY.

The facelifted models feature a few modest styling tweaks compared to the current ones, which include a larger kidney grille, more generous air intakes at the front, new LED fog lamps, and tweaked lighting units on both ends.

Customers can choose from one of the 13 exterior colors available, including the new Jucaro Beige and Sunset Orange, in addition to a wider selection of light alloy wheels, with six new designs, ranging between 16 and 19 inches in size.

Longer seat cushions make the front seats more comfortable, and there are plenty of new materials to select, alongside different combinations in cloth, cloth/Sensatec, Alcantara and Dakota leather.

BMW ConnectedDrive Services and the latest-gen iDrive infotainment system, with navigation, voice control, and iDrive operation with touch-sensitive interface, can be found inside as well.

BMW has also made the cockpit of the two minivans more driver-oriented, by tilting the center console towards them. Users will also notice that there’s a new electronic selector lever in variants fitted with the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox or 8-speed auto.

The former is available for the first time in the 2-Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer, and gets a longer ratio 7th speed for improved economy on long journeys. This transmission joins the already available 8-speed automatic, and 6-speed manual.

Petrol and diesel engines feature various modifications, producing between 109PS (107hp) and 231PS (228hp), boasting improved fuel-efficient. The units also emit less CO2 than before, from 112 to 147 g/km, depending on the model. Moreover, all diesels now feature a particulate filter, and four-cylinder oil burners get two turbochargers.

The BMW 2-Series Active Tourer 225XE iPerformance PHEV remains part of the offering, and it still churns out 224PS (221hp) and 385Nm (284lb-ft) of torque. It needs 6.7sec to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h (62mph), and adds a few kilometers to its zero-emission range, from 41km (25 miles) to 45km (28 miles).

Driver assistance systems include the Traffic Jam Assistant, which keeps the vehicle in its lane at speeds of up to 60km/h (37mph), and Active Cruise Control, both part of the optional Driving Assistant Plus package.

BMW is asking at least £25,840 ($34,992) for the entry-level 2-Series Active Tourer 216d, while the 225xe model can be had from £34,485 ($46,699) in the United Kingdom. The 2-Series Gran Tourer, on the other hand, stretches between £27,705 ($37,518) for the 216d, and £31,435 ($42,569) for the 220i.

Peugeot 2008 Gets More Luxurious In Allure Premium Trim 9
Jan
Posted by Carscoops Staff in new cars, PEUGEOT, Peugeot 2008, prices, UK on 01 9th, 2018

These days it’s not enough for luxury automakers to put out more luxurious automobiles. Mainstream ones do, too. So while the PSA group has its own upscale division in the DS brand, it’s also luxing up its more common offerings.

Say hello to the new Peugeot 2008 Allure Premium. It’s based on the subcompact crossover the French automaker already offers, but fitted with more upscale accoutrements.

The fresh model sits above the existing Allure trim and alongside the sportier GT, adopting a similar approach to the 208 Allure Premium hatchback released last year.

It stands apart with color-coded mirror caps and door handles, rear spoiler, extended wheel arches, and roof rails. The Cielo panoramic glass roof comes standard, beneath which you’ll find the Oxford Black interior trim, ambient lighting, 7-inch infotainment display, and Peugeot’s i-Cockpit. All that equipment would normally cost £1,400 if specified in the UK on a 2008 Allure (pictured), but in this case, the Allure Premium costs just £800 more.

“The addition of the Allure Premium to the Peugeot 2008 SUV was a natural step after the success of the 208 Allure Premium, and offers SUV style, space and presence in a package that represents outstanding value for money,” said Peugeot UK marketing director Mark Pickles. “For a small premium over the already generous Allure specification, customers will enjoy a host of luxury and technology enhancements which make owning and driving a Peugeot SUV thoroughly rewarding.”

British buyers will be able to choose between a 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder gasoline engine, or the 1.6-liter BlueHDi diesel.

Volkswagen Adds New Powertrains To Select Golf Models 9
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in new cars, prices, UK, VW, VW Golf on 01 9th, 2018

Volkswagen is starting the New Year with further revisions to the Golf, after updating it at the end of 2016.

One of them is the addition of a new BlueMotion model, which is offered in the hatch and estate variants of the Golf GT. It uses a 1.5-liter TSI petrol unit makes 130PS (128hp), and works together with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

In this flavor, the hatch needs 8.8sec for the 0-62mph (100km/h) acceleration, while the estate can do it in 9.2sec, with either transmission. Top speed stands at 130mph (209km/h) and 131mph (211km/h), respectively.

The engine, which is already offered in the SE and SE Navigation models, also features a full shut-down mode. This turns off all four cylinders temporarily, and starts them automatically once more power is needed. The automaker claims that “the driver barely notices the process other than the illumination of a small light on the dash panel to show the engine is in ‘Eco’ mode”.

Previously available with a 2.0-liter diesel engine, in two outputs: 150PS (148hp) and 184PS (181hp), the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack now gets a 1.8-liter TSI petrol option, rated at 180PS (177hp). Naught to 62mph (100km/h) takes 7.5sec, and top speed is 135mph (217km/h).

The car maintains its increased ride height, off-road-tuned suspension, and unique styling on the outside, and gets a 12.3-inch TFT screen in the cabin that replaces the traditional analog dials.

The updated Volkswagen Golf models can already be ordered in the United Kingdom, carrying a starting price of £23,435 ($31,721) for the 1.5-liter BlueMotion 3-door hatch, and £31,525 ($42,671) for the Alltrack.

2018 Audi S3 Is Probably The Ideal All-Weather Hot Hatch 7
Jan
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in audi, audi s3, Audi Videos, Film, UK, video on 01 7th, 2018

If you like hot hatches but don’t want to look like a boy racer, Audi’s latest S3 might just be the car for you.

The latest version of the S3 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 310hp. If you choose the five-door Sportback bodystyle, the only transmission option is the seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission.

When equipped with the effortless and quick-changing DSG, and thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drive system, it is capable of a 0-62mph (100kmh) in just 4.6 seconds.

It might not be the sharpest tool to take around the bends, but the S3 has proven to be an excellent daily driver, especially when fitted with the adaptive dampers that give it that extra layer when it comes to ride quality.

Carwow reviews the 2018 Audi S3 to find out if the German hot hatch is still one of the best all-weather sleepers out there.

Seat UK Has Sold Out Its Allotment Of Leon Cupra R Hot Hatches 7
Jan
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Seat, Seat Leon, Seat Leon Cupra, UK on 01 7th, 2018

Are you a hot-hatch enthusiast in the UK who hoped to get your hands on the new Seat Leon Cupra R? Well, too bad, because it’s all sold out.

The Cupra R is the most hardcore version of the Spanish brand’s top performance model. It packs a 2.0-liter turbo four good for 310 metric horsepower, channeled to the front wheels through a six-speed manual. It also features wider wheel arches, a full carbon aero kit, 19-inch alloys, and copper trim inside and out.

Seat committed to making just 799 examples, only 24 of which were allocated to the UK, one of the world’s top hot-hatch markets. So, despite a sticker price of £34,995, it sold out “in a matter of weeks,” according to the automaker.

That represents an approximate £5k premium over the “standard” Cupra, which is available in three- or five-door hatchback forms or as an estate. The Cupra R is offered exclusively as a five-door hatch, in either grey or black.

That kind of money, in case you were wondering, would land you in an M140i hatch or M240i coupe. The Volkswagen Golf R, by comparison, packs the same-spec engine as the Cupra R but with all-wheel drive, and retails in the UK (on the road with tax) between £32,850 (for the manual three-door) and £34,790 (for the dual-clutch five-door).

“As soon as we saw the Leon CUPRA R for the first time, we knew it would appeal strongly to British performance car enthusiasts, but, we’ve simply been blown away by the amount of interest shown its generated,” said Seat UK director Richard Harrison. “I’m delighted, and not the least bit surprised, that the UK-bound cars all found homes in such a short space of time. I’m sure their lucky owners will enjoy many years of great driving in this exclusive series.”

2018 VW Passat Gets More Standard Features, £22,605 Starting Price In The UK 7
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in new cars, PHEV, prices, UK, VW, VW Passat on 01 7th, 2018

Volkswagen has updated the entire Passat range slightly for the new MY by adding new standard features both inside and out.

Pricing starts at £23,625 ($31,978) for the entry-level saloon powered by a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine that makes 125PS (123hp) and works together with a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the most affordable estate adds a £1,020 ($1,381) premium.

Changes operated across the range include the addition of LED headlights at no extra cost on the SE Business, GT, Alltrack, and R-Line trims, and the brand’s App-Connect system, offered as standard on all versions of the car, which mirrors the screen phone onto the infotainment system after users link it via a USB cable.

Elsewhere, the SE Business now benefits from three-zone climate control, color multi-function display, multi-function computer, and heated front seats as standard, with the latter also added to the R-Line and Alltrack models.

Volkswagen’s challenger to the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Opel/Vauxhall Insignia continues to be offered in two body styles, saloon and wagon, and with a wide variety of petrol and diesel engines, mated to either a 6-speed manual and a 6- or 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

The top-of-the-line GTE Advance model exceeds the £40,000 ($54,143) mark in Britain, and comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that makes a combined 218PS (215hp).

It’s no secret that Alfa Romeo is marketing the new Stelvio Quadrifoglio as the sportiest model in the premium compact SUV segment.

Powered by the same powertrain with the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the range-topping Stelvio has to prove that it’s not just another really fast SUV, but also one that offers real fun behind the wheel.

Straight-line performance is great, thanks to the 505hp of the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, with 0-60mph coming in an impressive 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 177mph (285km/h).

The chassis also features the same torque-vectoring rear differential used in the Giulia, while the adaptive dampers offer the necessary handling and ride an SUV with such high aspirations must have.

Autocar reviews the new Stelvio Quadrifoglio on a twisty mountain pass in the UAE and deliver their verdict in the following video.

Lamborghini’s Jalpa Could Be A Classic Worth Bidding For 6
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in auction, Classics, Lamborghini, UK, used cars on 01 6th, 2018

It may not be nowhere as famous as the iconic Miura or Countach, but the Lamborghini Jalpa remains an important piece of the automaker’s history.

Built in only 419 examples, including 34 in right-hand drive, from 1982 until 1990, it was Lamborghini’s answer to the Ferrari 308, and it came with a 3.5-liter V8 engine, rated at 255hp, a five-speed manual transmission and independent suspension.

Pictured here is the 46th unit that rolled off the line in early 1983, which had four previous custodians until being purchased in 2001 by its fifth owner, a Lamborghini enthusiast who took great care of it. During this period, the Jalpa went through a full restoration, which included finishing its targa top in body color and fitting a radio/cassette player, Carello fog lamps with covers, and baby Vitaloni mirrors.

In 2013, this Jalpa was passed on to its sixth owner, who is now looking to part ways with it, listing it for sale at the Silverstone Auctions event, which takes place on February 23, at the Race Retro International Historic Motorsport Show 2018, at Soneleigh Park, Coventry, UK.

The auction house states that the sports car has 85,500km (53,437 miles) on the clock, and that it’s “eminently driveable”, expecting it to sell for £65,000-£75,000 ($88,090-$101,653).
