Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi L200, Mitsubishi Pajero, new cars, UK on 11 12th, 2017

Mitsubishi will launch the new Shogun Sport -also known as Pajero Sport– in the UK in spring 2018.

The new seven-seat model, which is already on sale in Asian markets, is based on the same underpinnings with the L200/Triton pickup truck and will be exclusively offered with the 180hp 2.4-liter diesel engine paired to an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission and the firm’s Super Select 4WD II system.

Customers will be offered two well-equipped trim levels to choose from, with both featuring leather upholstery, keyless entry with push-button start, LED daytime running lights, Hill Descent Control, Trailer Start Assist, a choice of driving modes depending on the terrain you’re driving and smartphone integration.

The range-topper will add things like heated front seats and additional safety features such as Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning and Multi-around Monitor System.

As you might have guessed already by the underpinnings, the new Mitsubishi Shogun Sport will be a more capable off-roader than other similarly priced rivals in the UK market. Similarly-minded rivals include the Ford Everest and the soon-to-be-announced Nissan Navara-based SUV but none of them is available in Europe currently.

Honda Unveils Diesel CR-V Race Car For Race Of Remembrance 10
Nov

Honda UK and Mission Motorsport created the world’s first ever CR-V diesel race car, set to compete in the Race of Remembrance at Anglesey circuit in Wales.

The team used a CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC AWD EX model as the foundation for this project, removing everything inside except for the dashboard, while adding a bespoke roll cage, racing seats and harnesses.

Dynamically, a special suspension was added, lowering the car’s center of gravity significantly. Other mods include large Brembo brakes (sourced from a Civic Type R), wider wheels from a Civic Sport, adjustable camber control arms and towing hooks.

Because the Race of Remembrance runs in the dark for 6 hours, an additional LED light bar was integrated into the grille, while bonnet and roof scoops were added to help with cooling during the 12 total hours that the car will be out on the track.

“This is a really unique project we are tremendously proud to be a part of,” said Phil Webb of Honda UK. “The team at Mission Motorsport have worked night and day getting the car ready to race while Syncho Motorsport have been on hand to offer advice. We can’t wait to see the CR-V out on track, a first for the model.”

The Race of Remembrance takes place this weekend on the 11th and 12th of November.

Caterham Seven Lays Down Record Number Of Donuts In 1 Min 10
Nov
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Caterham, celebrities, Record, UK, video on 11 10th, 2017

Former track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy looked pretty good on four wheels as he set a new donut world record, marking Caterham Seven’s 60-year anniversary.

In order to successfully complete this “60 second donut challenge”, Hoy had to spin the car around as many times as he could in under a minute.

“Everyone knows I spend a lot of time in cars these days but I’ve never had much practice donuting,” said Hoy. “But when someone tells me there’s a record up for grabs that certainly focuses my mind. During the attempt I just kept going, putting everything I’d learnt into practice.”

The Olympic legend also said that when you’re in a spin, you lose sense of time, and that he was shocked to learn he managed to do as many as 19 donuts in 60 seconds, reports The Sun.

As for his Caterham of choice, it was obviously the 620R, which has a power-to-weight ratio of 620 HP per tonne and can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.79 seconds.

Honda La Vista: Company Says It Can’t Afford 10 Percent Tariff Following Brexit 9
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in honda, Reports, UK on 11 9th, 2017

Honda has announced it cannot afford to pay a ten percent tariff on British-built cars if the United Kingdom returns to World Trade Organization rules when the country leaves the European Union in 2019.

In a document submitted to the parliament’s business committee, Honda said “A 10 percent tariff would make our vehicles uncompetitive and would impose costs we cannot afford to absorb.”

The document declined to say what would happen if the tariff takes effect but the company could cease operations in the United Kingdom. This would be a major blow as Honda United Kingdom Manufacturing employs around 3,400 people and its Swindon plant builds the Civic and CR-V.

Brexit negotiations haven’t been going very well but Reuters is reporting government ministers are aiming to reach a deal that allows for the freest trade possible. However, it appears the European Union has the upper hand in negotiations.

Honda isn’t the only automaker worried its future in the United Kingdom as Vauxhall warned the committee it might have to start stockpiling components to ensure production isn’t ground to a halt. Ford also noted changes to current system could have a “serious and negative impact on cash-flow.”

New Performance Pack For 2018 VW Golf R Pushes Top Speed Up To 168MPH 9
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in new cars, prices, UK, VW, VW Golf R on 11 9th, 2017

Volkswagen has launched a new Performance Pack for the UK market 2018 Golf R, which not only de-restricts top speed, but also shaves some pounds and adds a few extras.

Available as an option for the DSG versions of the Golf R hatch and estate, it includes an upgraded braking system that shaves 2 kilograms (4.4 lbs), 19-inch Spielberg alloy wheels that replace the stock 18-inch Cadiz rims, and in the case of the hatch, a new tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Moreover, specifying the Performance Pack to the latest iteration Volkswagen Golf R means that top speed will increase in both hatch and wagon variants of the vehicle, from 155mph (250km/h), to 166mph (267km/h) and 168mph (270km/h), respectively.

Pricing of the Performance Pack stars at £2,300 ($3,020) in the United Kingdom, where the Golf R can be had from £32,710 ($42,949) with a manual or £33,995 ($44,636) with an automatic gearbox, and the Estate costs at least £35,700 ($46,875) and comes exclusively with a DSG transmission.

Customers looking for an additional extra can select the new exhaust system that complements the Pack. Developed by Akrapovic, it costs £2,975 ($3,906) and drops another 7kg or 15.4 lbs. It features round tailpipes rather than oval, and valve control technology that’s said to enhance the deep sound of the car.

VW Jetta Bites The Dust In The UK, More Countries To Follow 8
Nov
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Reports, UK, VW, VW Jetta on 11 8th, 2017

UK customers will no longer be able to buy a new VW Jetta, not that they wanted to in the first place.

Volkswagen UK has axed the slow-selling Jetta from its lineup as it managed to shift just 379 examples between January 1 and October 1, compared to the 5,398 Passat sedans and 52,722 Golf hatchbacks Autocar reports.

A brand new successor will be launched next year, scheduled for reveal at the Detroit Motor Show but it’s likely to be biased towards markets with stronger sales.

Officials attributed the discontinuation to the car reaching the end of its life cycle but haven’t confirmed yet that the car is going out of production globally, despite the Jetta being also absent from the company’s German website.

This could mean that the Jetta’s discontinuation will affect more countries in the coming months but an official confirmation will come rather later than sooner, due to the number of unsold examples currently sitting at the dealers.

With customers turning more and more to SUVs and VW addressing their needs with new models like the new T-Roc, it makes sense that the days of a compact sedan like the Jetta are numbered, at least in Europe.

Gordon Murray’s McLaren F1-Inspired Supercar To Be Launched Under The IGM Brand 3
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Gordon Murray Design, new cars, Reports, UK on 11 3rd, 2017

New details of Gordon Murray’s supercar are starting to emerge, as it will be built under the revived IGM brand, which was first used in the late ’60s on the designer’s ‘T.1’ IGM Ford Special.

Teased in an official image that partially reveals its mid-engined shape with soft and muscular lines, the as-of-yet-unnamed vehicle is a 50-year celebration of Gordon Murray’s career.

Said to be “inspired by the engineering principles of the McLaren F1“, the new supercar “will be built for contemporary driving conditions featuring the very latest materials and technology”.

The supercar will be made using the company’s iStream Superlight production process, which uses high-strength aluminum sections instead of the steel or carbon fiber employed in iStream and iStream Carbon.

“Its additional weight reduction over the current process delivers a body-in-white structure approaching 50% of the weight of stamped metal, while achieving new levels of rigidity, durability and platform flexibility”, the company explains, adding that the technology “promises to be the lightest and most efficient process for body-in-white manufacturing for decades to come”.

The announcement was made at a special exhibition called ‘One Formula’, at Dunsfold Park, UK, where there’s a display of 40 different vehicles and design made by Murray over the years, in addition to some cars from his private collection, such as the De Tomaso Vallelunga, Honda S800, Abarth 750 Zagato, and two Lotus Elans.

MG Looking To Tempt Buyers With 7-Year Warranty For ZS SUV 3

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in MG, Reports, UK on 11 3rd, 2017

MG has announced that its brand new ZS compact SUV will receive a full 7-year warranty in the UK.

The warranty is completely transferable to any new owner as long as the 7 year/80,000-mile (128,747 km) limit isn’t reached. This package also guarantees all genuine replacement MG parts as long as the agreement stands.

Like its MG3 and GS siblings, the MG ZS, which starts from £12,495, also comes with an optional six-year anti-perforation warranty, helping buyers fight off corrosion.

“This is MG putting its money where its mouth is. With the introduction of a 7 year warranty, we are making a clear statement of intent about the quality of our design, engineering and manufacturing,” said Matthew Cheyne, head of sales and marketing for MG UK. “Our goal is to deliver hassle-free motoring in stylish cars that stand up to the toughest of challenges.”

The 7-year warranty will be available as standard on all three variants of the new MG ZS, the Explore, Excite and Exclusive. The cars arrived in showrooms on November 1st, featuring both manual as well as automatic gearbox options.
