Order The New Honda Civic Diesel From £20,120 In Britain 15
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in diesel, honda, Honda Civic, new cars, prices, UK on 01 15th, 2018

Joining the rest of the Civic range in the United Kingdom is the new diesel model, which will arrive at dealers nationwide next month.

Pricing for the diesel starts at £20,120 ($27,620), in the new entry-level ‘S’ grade (with 6-speed manual), but consumers will be able to specify it in the SE, SR, and EX trim levels as well, like they would the 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol model.

The EX starts from £24,925 ($34,216) and can be had with an optional Tech Pack, for £600 ($824), which adds a few amenities such as the LED headlights with washers, LED fog lamps, heated rear seats, and wireless phone charging.

“The arrival of the diesel variant completes the lineup for the Civic hatchback in the UK. This 1.6-liter i-DTEC is the most technologically advanced diesel unit we have launched to market, and will deliver a very competitive offering for both the retail customer and the fleet market”, commented Honda UK’s chief, Phil Webb.

This version of the Honda Civic uses a 1.6-liter unit that delivers 120PS (118hp) and 300Nm (221lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. It takes 10.4sec to reach 100km/h (62mph) from a standstill, and promises to return 76.3 UK mpg (3.7 l/100 km / 63.6 US mpg), while releasing just 99 g/km of CO2 into the atmosphere.

If you would rather have an automatic transmission paired with the Civic diesel’s engine, then you need to wait until early summer, when Honda will launch it across Britain.

Entry-Level Civic, Leon And i30 Engage In Budget Hatchbacks’ Drag Race 14
Jan

Usually, when you hear about a drag race, you imagine powerful stock or tuned cars going against each other. Well, this one is different.

That’s because Carwow brought together the Honda Civic, Hyundai i30 and Seat Leon, though not the respective Type R, N or Cupra variants as one would expect, but their base versions. They might not be that exciting, but they are the ones that sell in high volumes, so it’s interesting to see how fast they really are and how they compare against each other.

The Civic has the smallest engine here, a 1.0-liter turbo, while both the i30 and the Leon have 1.4-liter turbos. The Leon is the most powerful, rated at 150 horses, followed by the i30 with 140 and the Civic with 130. The Honda also happens to be the heaviest car here, which, on paper, puts it at a disadvantage.

So, which of the three hatchbacks won this budget-friendly drag race? Scroll down and find out.

2018 Nissan Qashqai Reviewed: Still The King Of Compact SUVs? 13
Jan
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Film, nissan, Nissan Qashqai, Nissan Videos, UK, video on 01 13th, 2018

Nissan’s best-selling Qashqai has received a mid-life facelift in order to deal with the ever-increasing competition.

The revamp consists of a revised exterior that includes new bumpers, the brand’s V-Motion grille, a new headlamp design that incorporates the DRLs and redesigned LED taillights. New alloy designs as well as new colors have also been added to the range.

The interior is made out of better-quality materials and also features new, more supportive seats as well as a new steering wheel. Nissan has also added more sound insulation, additional sealing around the front doors and a thicker rear glass for better insulation against NVH (noise, vibration and harshness).

Perhaps the highlight of the facelifted Qashqai is the addition of Nissan’s ProPilot semi-autonomous system in the range, which combines the Lane Keep Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control and Traffic Jam Pilot systems.

Those looking for a fun to drive SUV might be left disappointed from the Qashqai, but Nissan’s best-seller remains one of the most relaxing places to sit in when driving long distances.

Are these revisions enough to keep the 2018 Qashqai ahead of the competition? Carwow put one to the test to find out.

Once Driven By Rally Gods, This Subaru Legacy RS Is Now Up For Grabs 13

This might not be an Impreza but being a real Prodrive-raced Subaru Legacy RS Group A rally car driven by none other than Ari Vatanen.

This is the same car that Vatanen was driving when he was leading the 1993 Acropolis Rally, ahead of Tommi Makinen, Carlos Sainz, Colin McRae and Juha Kankkunen before crashing.

After the race, the car returned to Prodrive and was re-shelled in-house before it was sold to an Italian rally team. In 1995, the same car was driven by Richard Burns at the Bettega Memorial Rallysprint, finishing second overall.

The car then was re-shelled again but this time it was converted to a new Safari-spec Impreza shell, which is not uncommon for Legacy rally cars. In 2008, the car was bought by the Richard Burns Collection in order to completely rebuild it and bring it back to its original specs.

The task was overseen by ex-Prodrive man Ian Richardson, who created an authentic Prodrive-spec Legacy shell for the car which now comes with the famous K555 BAT number plate. The rather special Subaru Legacy RS Group A rally car is presented in the correct gravel specification and livery it wore at the 1993 Acropolis Rally.

The blue-gold Subaru is powered by the period-correct works turbo 2.0-liter flat-four engine with 290hp, paired to an X-trac manual gearbox. It has covered around 60 miles (100km) since the rebuild and is currently heading to Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Competition Car Sale on February 23 with a price estimate between £120,000 and £140,000 ($162,000 to $190,000).

Diesel Car Share In UK Could Plummet To 15% By 2025 12
Jan
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in diesel, Reports, UK on 01 12th, 2018

According to an industry expert, the market share for diesels in Britain could collapse to just 15% as motorists continue to choose other means of propulsion.

Aston University’s Professor David Bailey says that diesel cars are caught in a “perfect storm”, while adding that demand has already fallen to 17.1% in 2017, as reported by The Telegraph.

In fact, the drop even accelerated towards the end of the year, as motorists continue to be confused by government policies towards diesels – with sales dropping by 31.1% in the month of December alone.

“Diesel cars face a raft of challenges, each one of which could damage sales, and which are combining to kill off the domestic diesel sector, which was so rattled by the ‘dieselgate’ scandal,” said Bailey.

“They face a perfect storm of bad PR over pollution, coupled with concerns over increasingly strict regulations and sinking second-hand values.”

He also predicts that sales for new diesel-powered vehicles will drop by another 10% this year, and will represent just 15% of the new car market by the year 2025, compared to 47.7% in 2016 and 42% in 2017.

Jaguar Land Rover, the UK’s biggest car maker stated that its UK sales were flat in 2017, expressing frustration over the government’s treatment of diesels.

“We’re investing and exporting 80% of our output and delivering a huge amount of benefit to this economy,” said JLR sales exec, Andy Goss. “One would expect hand-in glove approach when it comes to looking at an area of policy so we don’t get surprises. It’s a reasonable request when, as a car manufacturer, planning takes a long time and takes huge amounts of money.”

Meanwhile Professor Bailey points out that governments had several other opportunities to encourage drivers to switch to alternative means of propulsion, even back in 2001 when “there was a misconceived drive to get people to opt for diesels.”

“Now that it’s clear diesel is dying a slow death, the time is right for the government to take the initiative and offer up scrappage benefits to those who are prepared to ditch their diesels and switch to electric cars.”

Lotus Launches New Sub 4-Second Evora GT410 Sport 11
Jan
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Lotus, Lotus Evora, new cars, prices, UK on 01 11th, 2018

Lotus came out with a new GT410 Sport model that officially replaces the older Evora Sport 410, while also drawing from the GT430 to provide drivers with advanced aerodynamics and a sleeker silhouette.

Like Lotus’ GT430, the GT410 Sport comes with new composite front and rear body panels, and while it doesn’t have any of the high downforce elements of its track-focused sibling, it still generates 50% more downforce than its predecessor.

Powering the Evora GT410 Sport is a supercharged 3.5-liter 6-cylinder engine, producing 416 PS (410 HP) and 420 Nm (309 lb-ft) of torque from 3,500 rpm. It also has a dry weight of just 1,256 kg (2,769 lbs).

The result of this is a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time of just 3.9 seconds for the automatic version, and 4-seconds flat for the manual.

“We are continually exploring new ideals, innovating and evolving our cars in pursuit of perfection. The new Evora GT410 Sport takes the lessons learned from the development of the GT430 to deliver something outstanding and highly capable,” stated Lotus CEO, Jean-Marc Gales.

The GT410 Sport also has a power-to-weight ratio of 326 HP/tonne and a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph). Grip comes courtesy of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, while the ultra-light, low-sideload springs and Bilstein sports dampers are all fitted as standard.

Lotus will also give you a touring suspension package as a free optional extra, featuring non-adjustable dampers and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

Customers from European and Asia Pacific markets can already place their orders for the new Evora GT410 Sport, while those living in the U.S. and China will have to wait until the summer.

Whereas UK buyers will spend upwards of £85,900 for it, those living in either Germany, France or Italy will have to fork over €110,900, €111,900 and €116,000 to Lotus respectively.

UK Business Minister Meets With PSA’s Boss Over Vauxhall Cuts 11

Posted by Michael Karkafiris in opel, PSA, Reports, UK, vauxhall on 01 11th, 2018

UK’s Business Minister Greg Clark is meeting with PSA boss Carlos Tavares in Paris to discuss the recently announced job cuts at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory.

PSA said that around 250 more jobs will be cut from Vauxhall’s factory in northwest England, on top of the 400 cuts announced last year, reducing the plant’s output to a single shift.

“The company explained that although the initial voluntary separation program at its Ellesmere Port plant announced in October has been successful, it needs to initiate a further voluntary program for eligible employees of a further 250,” PSA said in a statement.

So far PSA hasn’t clarified if it considers closing down Vauxhall’s factory which currently produces the Astra model for both Opel and Vauxhall.

Reuters reports that Clark and Tavares will discuss a number of issues and that their meeting has been planned for some time.

PSA is expected to decide this year whether to build new models at Vauxhall’s factory, with the final decision to showcase UK’s ability to attract new investments as the country leaves the EU.

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in AEB, Kia, Kia Picanto, prices, UK on 01 11th, 2018

Kia’s all-new Picanto X-Line goes on sale today, boasting SUV-inspired visuals and a 1.25-liter petrol engine.

The £12,595 price tag refers to the 1.25 petrol and five-speed manual pairing, whereas the four-speed automatic option is available for an additional £650.

In X-Line trim, the Picanto is longer, wider and taller than conventional city cars, and features rugged looks and an increased ground clearance, by approximately 15 mm (0.59 inches).

Lime green highlights on the grille and fog lamp surrounds help the Picanto X-Line stand out, as does the black cladding around the side sills and wheel arches. Meanwhile, the exterior door handles are finished in body color, while the twin exhaust outlets, 16″ alloys, shark-fin antenna and LED lights give the car a more aggressive look.

Inside, it has lime green stitching on the flat-bottomed steering wheel, gear lever and armrests, a 7″ touchscreen display with DAB radio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus faux leather upholstery, satin chrome interior door handles, stainless steel pedals with rubber inserts, cruise control, automatic air conditioning and keyless entry.

In addition, the Picanto X-Line is also fitted with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) as standard.

The 1.25-liter four-cylinder engine in the Picanto X-Line serves up 83 horses and 122 Nm (90 lb-ft) of torque, and was extensively re-engineered for the launch of the all-new Picanto last year.
