VW Rumored Again To Be Preparing A U.S. Amarok Launch After Filing Trademark 3
Posted by Brad Anderson in Reports, Trucks, VW, VW Amarok on 01 3rd, 2018

The United States has always been the home of full-size pickups but high demand hasn’t always existed in the mid-size pickup market.

In fact, demand for such vehicles traditionally comes from the likes of South America, South Africa, and Australia. However, with the latest Chevrolet Colorado, upcoming all-new Ford Ranger, and a Jeep Wrangler pickup, American buyers will soon have ample choice of mid-size pickups. According to Motorlix, a rather unexpected player may also enter the market.

It is reported that Volkswagen recently filed an application to register the name Amarok with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, perhaps signaling its intent on bringing the popular vehicle stateside.

Importantly, this isn’t the first time VW has moved to trademark the Amarok name in the United States so this latest move is far from confirmation about the pickup launching here.

If Volkswagen does pull the trigger and begin selling the Amarok to the U.S., it won’t be an easy sell as a German, premium pickup is completely foreign to most shoppers who traditionally have unbreakable loyalty to the established U.S. pickup players.

A Modified Exterior And Custom Interior Make The Perfect VW Amarok 19
Posted by Brad Anderson in Carlex, Trucks, tuning, VW, VW Amarok on 12 19th, 2017

Unlike many of its rivals, the VW Amarok isn’t available in any kind of beefed-up guise with aggressive body panels and a look-at-me-design. Fortunately, tuning company Pickup Design has given the Amarok some of the attitude it so desperately needed.

Modifications made to this Amarok start up front with an extremely menacing fascia that incorporates enlarged air intakes, black headlight surrounds, and a silver skid plate. Additionally, the pickup receives a set of flared wheel arches, black wheels with off-road tires, an LED light bar on the roof, and an overhauled rear incorporating a subtle spoiler.

Inside, the modifications continue with black leather and fabric covering the seats, light brown accents throughout, and a steering wheel that would look more at home in a sports car than a large pickup truck. Additionally, the Amarok also has a small plaque in the center console denoting itself as one of just 500 examples set to be built.

Will the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor get anywhere near matching the insanity of this creation?

VW Amarok Gains Cheaper Three-Pedal Option For Manual-Labor Fans 21
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in new cars, Trucks, UK, VW, VW Amarok on 11 21st, 2017

Volkswagen UK has expanded the Amarok range with the addition of a cheaper manual gearbox option in combination with the 201hp diesel engine.

This brings down the entry price of the VW Amarok by over £650 to £25,600 (excluding VAT and other fees). The new base model is available in Trendline trim and selectable all-wheel drive system.

The new manual VW Amarok remains rear-driven until the driver decides to engage the front axle at the touch of a button. The manual gearbox also enabled VW to add a low-range option too, which allows the German pickup truck to perform better off-road.

The 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine produces 201hp (204PS) between 3,000 and 4,500rpm, as well as a maximum torque of 368lb-ft (500Nm) between 1,250 and 2,750rpm. Fuel economy is a combined 32.5mpg UK while CO2 emissions are rated at 229g/km.

The addition of a manual gearbox also made the Amarok a bit quicker off the line, with 0-62mph (100km/h) coming in 8.4 seconds against the 9.1 of the automatic counterpart while top speed is set at 119mph.

Volkswagen UK will also add an even cheaper manual Amarok to the range with a 163PS diesel engine early next year. First deliveries of the new manual Amarok V6 are expected in February 2018.

We Wouldn’t Be Surprised If Some Tuner Made A VW Amarok 6×6 15
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Renderings, VW, VW Amarok on 11 15th, 2017

The Volkswagen Amarok remained largely the same from its introduction in 2010 right up until last year, when it received an update for the 2017MY, but what would make it even more special?

An all-new second generation is the obvious answer, although this probably won’t appear any time soon. How about a six-wheel version in the likes of the Mercedes-AMG 6×6, Kahn Flying Huntsman 6×6 and Hennessey’s new VelociRaptor 6×6?

Needless to say, Volkswagen aren’t even contemplating such a project (at least as far as we know), but if they did, then it would probably look close to this rendering posted by Spdesignsest, which gets not only an additional axle at the rear, but also widened fenders, roof-mounted off-road lights and some other touches.

The artist has also given the Touareg 6×6 a ‘V8’ badge on the grille, which could remind some of MTM’s Amarok V8 Passion Desert and its tuned 4.2-liter TDI V8 that makes 410hp and 930Nm (685lb-ft) of torque.

However, the new 4.0-liter TDI that debuted in the Audi SQ7 would be a stronger candidate, as it makes 429hp and 900Nm (664lb-ft) of torque, and also gets the world’s first electric powered compressor, thus eliminating turbo lag.
