Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, Autostyle on 04 22nd, 2013

A. Kahn Designs expands the appeal of the Porsche Panamera by combining German engineering with quintessentially British styling, not entirely new territory for the man who embodies a brand and its identity.

This basalt black beauty may have four doors, a big boot and a diesel engine, but the Kahn DNA shines throughout and the principal British designer has ensured the Kahn Panamera looks and feels special – it is by far the most engaging in what is now a significant line-up of Panamera models.

Afzal Kahn has provided inherent balance to this vehicle thanks to an outstanding styling package consisting of vented front and rear wide wheel arches with integrated rear air dams, lower boot wing (inspired by the classic 911 turbo style tail), upper roof wing, brake calipers finished in liquid gold, sports lowered suspension springs, LED day time running lights for front wheel arch vents, Kahn enamel tailgate logo, Kahn enamel wing shields and door entry sill plates in stainless steel.

Inside is the ‘bespoke touch’, and these particular vehicles comes complete with front and rear seats in quilted and perforated black leather with grey alcantara inserts, alcantara sport steering wheel, piano black interior trim and floor mats.

This vehicle is available for £68,875.00

Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, Videos on 03 15th, 2013

Published by Drive, Chris Harris takes on the Volvo S60 Polestar, a high performance sub-brand for improved acceleration.

The car was driven from Sweden to the UK to avoid the snow, but instead it snowed in the UK. Still, Harris got a chance to play with it. It’s a small-volume concept for now, but the team had a C63 on display to add some perspective.

The saloon, with manual gearbox offers more than 500hp from a transversely mounted V6 engine and described by Harris as a “loopy” car even by loopy standards and makes for an extremely unusual S60 driving experience.

But of course, Wraith’s starting point is luxury, refinement and quality, traits that remain as important to Rolls-Royce customers today as they were more than a century ago.”

The Wraith debuted Satellite Aided Transmission technology that uses GPS mapping data to ensure that the driver is in the appropriate gear for the terrain, anticipating his or her next move.

Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, Popular, Super car news on 02 26th, 2013

In celebration of 60 years of collaboration with Aston Martin, Bertone has introduced a one-off Rapide shooting brake – The 2013 Aston Martin Rapide Bertone.

The vehicle, that has been commissioned by an Aston Martin collector, keeps the regular Rapide’s 2+2 seating configuration with more room for passengers in the back and features the rear lights of the Vanquish super-GT.

However, the Rapide Bertone does not offer the same engine as that which is fitted into the Rapide S. Rather power comes from the outgoing Rapide’s 470bhp 6.0-litre V12.

Adreach increases street level reach with Rogue Rally 19
Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News on 02 19th, 2013

Adreach the outdoor media company which operates more than 40 000 sites across South Africa, is a partner sponsor of the Rogue Rally. Rogue Rally is a Gumball-style supercar road trip that covers more than 2200 kms and includes special stages.  The event is designed to give the owners of supercars the opportunity to use their cars as the designers intended.

“For us the association with supercars is a natural one as we manage so much roadside real estate,” says Brad Fisher, CEO of Adreach. Fisher goes on to say that it was however the public participation and exposure that clinched the deal. “The Rogue Rally will be very accessible to the general public with open track days, exclusive parties, street processions, closed street circuits and special events,” said Fisher.

Fisher did not disclose the sponsorship amount and was only willing to indicate that it exceeds R1 million. “The Rogue Rally’s appeal extends beyond car enthusiasts and it is Ad Reach’s prediction that the Rogue Rally will be a highlight on the SA social calendar.”

“Rogue Rally is a 5 star event with 5 star participants. The special stages and logistics related to the Rogue Rally are going to be something special,” says Rogue Rally CEO, Mark Castel. Castel says that partner sponsors were essential as the cost of the event is not covered by the R45 000 entry fee. According to him the goodie bags alone are valued in the tens of thousands of rand.

Other sponsors include navigation specialists TomTom distributed by Tracker, McLaren/Aston Martin/Rolls Royce importers Daytona Group, Helivac, and Legacy Hotels Group.

The Rogue Rally starts on 16 June and will run until 22 June.  Smaller sponsorship opportunities are still available for some of the special stages and events. For sponsorship enquiries contact Mark Castel on 0861 222 123.

This year Top Gear is bringing two-time Formula 1 Champion Mika Häkkinen along as one of its guest drivers.

Last year, the Moses Mabhida Stadium, People’s Park and Street Circuit played host to a sell-out event , with 67 000 visitors enjoying the explosive live show, an enthralling street circuit, and a motoring exhibition packed with some of the world’s greatest supercars, classic automobiles  and motoring memorabilia.   This year’s much anticipated event promises to be bigger, better and, in true Top Gear style, even more ambitious than 2012!

The Top Gear Festival team are thrilled to  to announce that the 2013 Festival will deliver another epic event featuring once again  four sensational live stadium performances hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and their tame racing driver, The Stig – along with their amazing team of dare-devil prescion drivers.

Also returning is the unique and action-packed Durban Street Circuit which last year played host to a 90-minute track show hosted by Le Mans racing driver Tiff Needell and local F1 presenter and DJ, Sasha Martinengo – not forgetting of course the hugely anticipated Formula 1 display.

Petrolheads can once again immerse themselves in their favourite brands and merchandise  at the extensive motoring expo out on the People’s Park.

Top Gear Festival Director, Hannah Cabral comments: “The Top Gear presenters, BBC Worldwide and the UK show’s production team were so overwhelmed with the response from the South African leg of the World-tour last year that we have decided to increase the capacity and size of the event to a whopping 80 000 people. We are confident that this years line up of celebrities, guest drivers and awesome automobiles will allow us to achieve our visitor goal”.

Nissan GT-R 2012 with ‘starry sky’ by Vilner 25
Posted by Kelly Levinsohn in Automotive News, Autostyle on 01 25th, 2013

Vilner’s Nissan GT-R is definitely a very unique project. This is not only because of the exquisite work and craftsmanship of the Vilner team but also because of the “starry sky” ceiling that it includes. Few other cars have the same feature, and is in fact the fist car in tuning history to include anything like it.

The materials used in the interior are the finest leather and Alcantara in black and crimson colours. The dominant black seats include red bands on the borders. Another accent that catches the eye is the red stitching creating rhomboid forms.

The same is seen on the panel, steering wheel, doors and ceiling. Upon looking up one can see the unique “starry sky”, an effect that was requested by the client and achieved with the mounting of LED’s.

All the plastic elements underwent a transformation having originally been in different shades of gray. After the modification they shine exquisitely thanks to the Black Piano Varnish applied.

As is customary for the Vilner team, every detail has been taken into account. Rearview mirrors have been wrapped in Alcantara, the steering wheel was individually modified and now includes elements in Black Piano Varnish.

An iPad stand was also installed as per the client’s wish.
