Dames Point Bridge

Opening on March 10, 1989, the 10,646 foot long, 174 foot high Dames Point Bridge connected Arlington, the beaches, and Southside with the Northside of the city. We may take it for granted unless the bridge is closed because of an accident, but this 25th birthday celebrating bridge saves about 70,000 cars and trucks from having to drive many extra miles and cross one of the downtown bridges every single day.

The Japanese formula for affordable and fun-to-drive vehicles is getting a new life here in the United States as we set our eyes on future concepts from the likings of Nissan. Vehicles like the good-ol Datsun 510 would be an awesome addition in a fresh new form just as Nissan has inspired in the IDx NISMO concept, which is in Jay Leno’s Garage this week. Of course we will very well see an iteration of the IDx Concept hit the market within the next few years. Hit up the video below with Jay taking the new IDx NISMO for a spin.

2015 Subaru WRX STI Review & Test Drive 7

In my days of driving cars on the road and on the track, it becomes apparent each time of jumping behind the wheel of one that there is an ongoing performance-car balancing act to make everyone happy. This battle endures on the track and on those spirited drives down local roads. For many to even experience a vehicle that attempts to balance track life or every-day grocery-getter duties, a little extra cash is usually required. In the tradition of Subaru, curiosity has always sparked an interest in enthusiasts when it comes to the WRX STI, a relatively affordable and quick car that serves double duty without much of a fuss. All-new for 2015, the Subaru WRX STI embarks on a journey to bring that balancing act back into focus where it still lacks a definitive placement on the road or track, but that is a good thing.

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-side

The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI is a gem of a car. I know that may sound a bit corny, but take my word for it, this is one vehicle that infringes upon the old ‘best bang for the buck’ statement. The 2015 Subaru WRX STI doesn’t reinvent what Subaru is known for in their symmetrical all-wheel-drive system and the rally-inspired disposition of their vehicles over many years. To put it one way, all other Subaru vehicles look up to the WRX STI with it being the king of performance for the brand and proudly wearing that title for the completely redesigned 2015 model.

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-drive-rear

My adventure in the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI Launch Edition took me for a loop when I had to take the vehicle to a neighboring city a few towns east of Jacksonville, FL. I found myself driving what was first perceived as a much more solid and somewhat refined WRX STI than a 2013 model I drove last year. Of course there were many familiarities, those being mostly the good traits of the outgoing model. Though, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI was a new beast even though it carried over the 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer 4-cylinder engine. That unique and delightful burbled sound was there, SI-Drive mode settings were there, and the adjustable limited-slip differential for its advanced all-wheel-drive system was there. Taking the 2015 Subaru WRX STI out on the road for the first time I noticed that the 6-speed transmission was somewhat familiar too, in a good way. The steering rack was a bit different, it was a tad quicker (13:1:0 ratio) through a retained hydraulic-assisted setup, taking only 2.5 turns from lock to lock – which is a major benefit for track days with this all-wheel-drive rocket. This 2015 Subaru WRX STI was just better in every way.

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-engine

Power delivery from the 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-4-cylinder comes constrained in a specific rpm range, just as it always has. Though, power delivery is predictable especially above 3,500 rpm. Interestingly enough, power is plentiful just shy of redline at 6,700 rpm. In my estimate it seems as if power begins a slight drop off at 6,500 rpm, which is where I set the configurable shift-light and audible alarm to sound indicating my desired shift point. I will say it, achieving a consistent 0-60 mph time is not an easy task in the WRX STI. I saw times ranging from 5.8 seconds to a best at 5.2 seconds. The jury is still out on the 60 mph acceleration but rest assured, the new WRX STI is no slouch even though it has gained a minuscule 2 pounds (Launch Edition without power seats) from the last generation. Some will post times as fast as 4.8 seconds, either way, a 3rd gear shift is required to reach 60 mph.

It was only on my return trip to Jacksonville after about a 100-mile long haul that I really had time to experience what the 2015 Subaru WRX STI had to offer for performance. The highway drive was pleasing enough showing a nice livable and commuter side of the WRX STI. The RPM level remained high in 6th gear hovering around 2,800 rpm at 70 mph. Nevertheless, that was a good thing considering how the turbo spools up fast enough at that rpm to give you a nice surge of power when leaving it in 6th gear. The exhaust note from the quad-tailpipes didn’t drone or carry through the cabin much, or not nearly as much when the engine is just above idle (around 1,300-1,600 rpm). Stability was excellent at highway speeds and the ride may have been a bit harsh at times but not to the point of really making me uncomfortable while resting my posterior in the firmly supportive and heavily bolstered heated sport seats up front with alcantara inserts and leather trim. The firm suspension, however, is a joy to master around twisty roads at a decent speed especially having all four wheels pulling you out of turns. The new rigid chassis, a major improvement you notice if you recall a time you drove the last generation WRX STI, also aids to limit body flex and emanate a proficient handling dynamic.

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-center-dash-screen-boost-gauge

Pushing the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI to the limit is almost an unachievable goal in the confides of local roads. Though, you would want to assure that you have the wits to pull off an event where you break loose the sticky 18-inch 245/40 Dunlop Sport Maxx tires wrapping light-weight forged BBS wheels. Basically, the WRX STI emits a feeling of the vehicle being on rails. Putting the WRX STI into a sharp turn and holding it through the bend makes you appreciate its advanced center differential with six locking settings. With the center differential in auto mode and the power split set to a rear bias via a flip of the + / – setting into the minus position, the chassis still cooperates like an all-wheel-drive vehicle. To put it lightly, the WRX STI will still understeer at the mercy of its tires but reaching that point is a long stretch for lighthearted enthusiasts. Forget about oversteer, unless you are at the track. Even then, wagging the tail will only be coupled with a quick correction by use of the throttle as the center diff quickly sorts things out. Using the surge of torque to throttle the vehicle into turns is a pure delight as it carries through without any drama only pushing back at the slight adjustments and corrections of the center differential via Active Torque Vectoring, which utilizes an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch for distribution of power to the front and rear. Just make sure your paws are firmly planted on the leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel – the WRX STI goes where you point it without giving you any second chances. Over-all, the WRX STI handles extremely well with as much as 0.98 g of lateral grip. Braking is strong, too – at the benefit of Brembo brakes and virtually no fade on heavy repeated stops.

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-dashboard

The 6-speed manual of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI is the only available transmission, which pays tribute to the WRX STI remaining a purist vehicle and a rarity in today’s automotive market. The clutch pedal travel was short and somewhat stiff but manageable for an enthusiast used to a vehicle that does not break the wheels loose on hard acceleration. Much about the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI has been repeated but with a touch of panache where the interior is no longer laced in plastic hell and some of the retained rawness of the outgoing model does not ruin the limited luxurious side of the WRX STI, if there really is such a thing. Still, you can enjoy the clatter and harmony of the drivetrain and exhaust in acceptable quantities. Inside of the new 2015 WRX STI you will find a padded dashboard, padded trim on the door panels, a new gauge cluster with a central color LCD information screen, center-dashboard color information LCD screen with an interactive boost gauge and dedicated dual-zone climate control readout. Within the center-dash information screen the rear-view camera is displayed as well as vehicle mpg and center differential power-split output diagram. Of course the mpg readout never saw a tick over 22 mpg during my time with the new 2015 WRX STI, even on the highway. It’s not to say the EPA estimated 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway numbers are totally unattainable, it is just that the WRX STI is too much fun to land what is still an uninspiring number for any sedan. I will leave that test to whoever wants to waste their time and completely ignore the WRX STI’s eagerness to make you drive it like you stole it.

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-front-seats

To summarize the welcomed redesign of the 2015 WRX STI’s interior, it is leaps and bounds better than the outgoing model. The seating area is usable for 5 adults, possibly by means of the middle-backseat passenger being a bit smaller than average to make way for a comfortable spot for each occupant. Visibility of the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI is also a slight improvement where my only qualm would be the massive rear spoiler, or in this case due to its size, the large ‘wing’. At times I found myself second guessing a quick check of my blind spot thinking that the rear wing was a vehicle. It took some getting used to but could you imagine how large my neck muscles will be after a week of those exercise in addition to the g-forces emitted on some daring and adventure drives I guessed up on a few back roads?

2015-subaru-wrx-sti-rear-seats

The Subaru WRX STI is where the automaker injects all of its fun attributes and sets the competition bar a bit higher in the perspective of compact sports cars. Subaru has done its homework and taken a few revamped pages from their inspired World Rally Cross Country STI (Subaru Tecnica International) heritage over many years to make, in my opinion, the best vehicle carrying the STI badge for the street yet. Some will argue this point due to the newly sculpted design and front end housing LED low-beam headlights possibly resembling other vehicles. No doubt that the new 2015 WRX STI has been re-molded, refined, and assembled with some carry-over parts. To put it in perspective, the WRX STI was never a bad vehicle. Subaru has just taken that formula and reworked it for a better outcome while retaining many principles as to avoid making it unrecognizable visually and performance wise. Moreover, the price point has remained to stay in a respectable range starting at $34,495 for the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI base trim.

amelia-island-concours-delegance-2013

In the past several years I have been fortunate enough to take in the full experience of one of the world’s most prestigious automotive right here in Jacksonville, Florida’s back yard, Amelia Island. The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance doesn’t only attract automotive enthusiasts and those who are truly addicted to the automotive culture, you can expect to see curiosity at an unprecedented level from virtually every walk of life. Mostly due to the stature of the vehicles on display, dating back from the conception of the automobile to the year 1972, there is something for everyone who has even the slightest recognition of automotive history.

The Amelia Concours is a treat for everyone, providing discoveries for those who are new to the world of vintage automobiles and offering surprises to enthusiasts who pride themselves in an extensive knowledge of automotive history. This is part of the uniqueness of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, the show can catch an automotive veteran off guard while steadying others on a walk down memory lane. For many, the Amelia Concours is a “bucket list” event, a once in a lifetime experience.

In the past few years of covering the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, I have taken away cherished memories of the people I have met and the cars on display. In a way, for me the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is a dream come true, yes, even in the limelight of driving a different new vehicle each week and spending countless hours at auto shows around the world. For someone like my mother, a respected grade school teacher who hasn’t the slightest clue about the historical significance of the 1936 Duesenberg SJN or the driving experience associated with the Ferrari 250 GTO, the show is equally treasured and meaningful. She gets it, walking from car to car with a big smile on her face, glancing at each uniquely sculpted body and stopping to take in the short backstory listed on the show plaque. There really is nothing else like thousands of spectators walking on one of the world’s most beautiful golf courses filled with the most esteemed vehicles from around the world.

amelia-island-concours-delegance-2013-best-show-duesenberg-sjn

Each year the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance selects an honoree and pays homage to the accomplishments of the selected honoree and how it correlates to theme and automotive history of the event. Last year (2013) the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance featured Sam Posey, who is one of America’s most articulate representatives of motorsports. His wide range of skills apart from racing is also a tribute and hat tip to the amalgamation of the show.

Other events during the weekend of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, such as Silent Auctions, RM Auctions, and exclusive displays put on by various manufactures, all plays a part in the versatility and having something for everyone to enjoy.

Leading up to this year’s Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, my staff and I had the opportunity to sit down with founder, Bill Warner. In our discussions we were overwhelmed with his warm and heartfelt passion for helping others, which truly determines that the Concours is much more than just a car show. The local community is a big influence in Warner’s passion. The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance donates millions of dollars to charity.

amelia-island-concours-delegance-2013-bmw-30-csl

Warner welcomed our local Automotive Addicts Cars and Coffee venue to join his Saturday Amelia Island Cars and Coffee, asking us to help select local participants. Usually, our event is held at The Florida Times-Union every second Saturday of the month averaging about 400 vehicles in attendance representing everything from million-dollar exotics and resto/modified VW buses to American muscle cars. For our Cars and Coffee venue in March, we are joining the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee event welcoming our local participants to spectate the nice field of vehicles Amelia Island Concours has invited. It is a pleasure and honor to be part of Saturday’s event and we look forward to covering the Sunday vehicle display.

The 19th Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance with Honoree Jochen Mass takes place this weekend with the Amelia Island Cars and Coffee running Saturday from 9am till 1pm, various other lifestyle events, and concludes with the official vehicle display at The Golf Club of Amelia Island on Sunday from 9:30am till 4pm. AutomotiveAddicts.com will bring to you exclusive coverage following the event in addition to images from Saturday’s Amelia Island Cars and Coffee, which we will be participating in with local vehicle entrants.

Video: Camaro Z/28 Aerodynamics Fine-tuned With Flowtie to Replace Restricting Bowtie 5

Chevrolet has remarkably tuned the all-new Camaro Z/28 to be a marvel, which is why it can make record runs around the Nurburgring. Part of that remarkable tuning comes down to now only just the sheer power of its naturally aspirated 505-horsepower V8 engine, but engineers have replaced the traditional bowtie emblem on the front grill with a Flowtie. The new Flowtie design is a gutted or hollowed-out design with the boarder of the original Bowtie left in place.

chevrolet-camaro-z28-flowtie-diagram-airflow

The Flowtie design allows air to be channeled in a more direct nature to the radiator for better cooling. In tests the Flowtie design adds 3 cubic meters of air through the grill per minute. This keeps the engine coolant and oil temperatures down a full 2 degrees Fahrenheit on hard track runs when compared to having the original Bowtie up front. Talking about some serious engineering right?

Founded in 2004 by Malcolm Hogan, Jacksonville, Florida based AutomotiveAddicts.com was created for auto enthusiasts of all types. For the past 10 years AutomotiveAddicts.com has strived to give readers the most interesting automotive related material on the internet without recycling material from other networks. Whether you are looking for a meaningful review of new vehicle, an honest look at breaking automotive news, or helpful technical articles and information, AutomotiveAddicts.com is the place to go.

Times-Union

Automotive Addicts is also the founder of the Jacksonville Cars and Coffee event, hosting the monthly car show on the second Saturday of every month. The car show began at the St. John’s Town Center a little over five years ago, moving to the River City Shopping Center, Tinseltown, and finally back to the original location at the St. John’s Town Center. All locales had there pros, but none of them felt like home for the event.

In April of 2013, the Florida Times-Union approached the AutomotiveAddicts.com team and asked if they would consider hosting the event downtown at The Florida Times-Union headquarters at 1 Riverside Avenue. The location was ideal, central to the city, right on the waterfront and included a large covered parking area to accommodate the event in case of rain.

AutomotiveAddicts hosted the first Cars and Coffee at the Florida Times-Union on July 13, 2013. The new location was widely received by the Jacksonville car community. In a short amount of time the show began regularly attracting 400 plus cars and thousands of spectators, AutomotiveAddicts.com Cars and Coffee had found a home and solidified itself as one of Jacksonville’s premier car gatherings.

But that is not the end of the story…

In January of 2014, the Times-Union contacted Malcolm and asked if he would be willing to come on board with the paper and write a weekly column in the Saturday Drive section of the paper. Meetings were held and emails were exchanged. The new column titled, “An Addictive Take On Cars” debuted on February 8, 2014. Malcolm was then joined by AutomotiveAddicts.com senior editor, Chris Brewer in the February 22, 2014 column.

AutomotiveAddicts.com has also set up a section of the website that readers of the Times-Union can go to for more in-depth articles and reviews, videos and more by clicking on the Florida Times-Union Column link the top of the AutomotiveAddicts.com website or by visiting http://www.automotiveaddicts.com/category/tu

The highly anticipated 2015 Lamborghini Huracán has made its official debut at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show today. Officially dubbed as the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, packs a serious punch with 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque from its 5.2-liter V10 engine. The all-wheel-drive setup where it gets power delivered through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission will be good enough for runs to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph.

As the Lamborghini Gallardo’s replacement, it is pretty sweet. Hopefully we will see it for ourselves at one of our upcoming Cars and Coffee events. Check it!

Best-in-class off-road capability thanks to two all-new 4×4 systems
Leveraging 4×4 technology from the all-new Jeep Cherokee, the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade offers two of the most advanced and intelligent 4×4 systems in its class, all to deliver best-in-class off-road capability. Both systems can provide up to 100 percent of the engine’s available torque to the ground, through any wheel, for optimal grip.

  • Jeep Active Drive – full-time 4×4 system
  • Jeep Active Drive Low – class-exclusive full-time 4×4 system with 20:1 crawl ratio.

Innovation is also at the forefront of any new Jeep vehicle, and the Renegade is the first small SUV to feature a disconnecting rear axle and power take-off unit (PTU) – all to provide Jeep Renegade 4×4 models with enhanced fuel economy. The system instantly engages when 4×4 traction is needed.

Both Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems include the Jeep Selec-Terrain system, providing up to five modes (Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud modes, plus exclusive Rock mode on the Trailhawk model) for the best four-wheel-drive performance on- or off-road and in any weather condition.

Trail Rated: Renegade Trailhawk 4×4 model
For customers who demand the most off-road capability from their Jeep vehicles, the Renegade Trailhawk model delivers best-in-class Trail Rated 4×4 capability with:

  • Standard Jeep Active Drive Low (20:1 crawl ratio)
  • Selec-Terrain system with exclusive Rock mode
  • Increased ride height 20 mm (0.8 inches)
  • Skid plates, and red front and rear tow hooks
  • Unique fascias deliver 30.5 degree approach, 25.7 degree breakover and 34.3 degree departure angles
  • 17-inch all-terrain tires
  • Up to 205 mm (8.1 inches) of wheel articulation
  • Hill-descent Control
  • Up to 480 mm (19 inches) of water fording
  • Up to 1,500 kg (3,300-lb.) towing capability with MultiJet II diesel engine and 907 kg (2,000-lb.) towing capability with 2.4-liter Tigershark engine, with available tow package

A global Jeep design for a rapidly growing global brand
From the start, Jeep designers knew the Renegade would need to deliver best-in-class off-road capability with city-sized proportions that exuded the brand’s rugged style while at the same time enhancing versatility, maneuverability and style. Additionally designers were tasked to create an all-new SUV that would symbolize the brand’s renowned American design and ingenuity, as it would mark the Jeep brand’s first entry into the small SUV segment in more than 100 markets around the globe. Last, Renegade had to offer the open-air freedom that dates back to its 1941 roots with the Willys MB Jeep.

The result is the all-new 2015 Renegade, a vehicle that builds on the Jeep Wrangler’s powerful stance, and features fresh new styling with rugged body forms and aggressive proportions that enable best-in-class approach and departure angles purposely designed to deliver best-in-class off-road capability. And for segment-exclusive panoramic views, two available My Sky open-air roof panel systems conveniently stow to provide passengers open-air freedom with ease.

All-new interior exudes a rugged and energetic appearance
The all-new Jeep Renegade interior features a rugged and energetic appearance that builds upon Jeep’s legendary brand heritage. Its precisely crafted detail, innovative and high-quality color and material appointments, state-of-the-art technology, and clever storage features draw inspiration from contemporary extreme sports gear and lifestyles.

The interior of the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has a distinctive form language which Jeep designers have titled “Tek-Tonic.” This new design theme is defined by the intersections of soft and tactile forms with rugged and functional details. Major surfaces such as the sculpted soft-touch instrument panel are intersected with bold functional elements like the passenger grab handle – indispensable for off-road adventures and borrowed from its big brother, the legendary Jeep Wrangler. Unique “protective clamp fasteners,” anodized design accents and inspired colors are derived from extreme sports equipment, while the newly familiar “X” shapes inspired by its roof and tail lamps add to Renegade’s Tek-Tonic interior look. And to make sure all of the needed passenger gear fits, the Renegade is designed with an efficient and flexible interior package that includes a removable, reversible and height-adjustable cargo floor panel and fold-forward front-passenger seat.

My Sky: continuing Jeep open-air freedom since 1941
Keeping the tradition of the legendary 1941 Willys MB Jeep, the all-new 2015 Renegade offers open-air freedom with two available My Sky open-air roof systems. With a manual removable, or removable with premium power tilt/slide feature, the segment-exclusive My Sky roof-panel systems quickly bring the outdoors inside. Designed for convenience, the honeycomb fiberglass polyurethane roof panels are lightweight and stow neatly in the rear cargo area. For added design detail, both My Sky roof systems feature a debossed “X” stamped into the roof that exude strength and play on the brand’s utilitarian history.

Best-in-class off-road capability with world-class on-road driving dynamics
Designed and engineered to first and foremost deliver legendary Jeep 4×4 capability, the all-new 2015 Renegade is the first small SUV from Chrysler Group to use the all-new “small-wide 4×4 architecture.”

With its fully independent suspension capable of up to 205 mm (8.1 inches) of wheel articulation and 220 mm (8.7 inches) of ground clearance (Trailhawk), Renegade raises the bar in the small SUV segment with best-in-class off-road capability. Extensive use of advanced steels, composites and advanced computer-impact simulations enable the all-new 2015 Renegade’s architecture to deliver world-class torsional stiffness and Jeep brand’s durability required for Trail Rated adventures.

The all-new Renegade is the first Jeep to integrate Koni’s frequency selective damping (FSD) front and rear strut system. This damping system enables the Jeep Renegade to deliver world-class road-holding and handling characteristics.

Designed for global markets: 16 powertrain combinations
True to the Jeep brand, the all-new Renegade will offer customers in global markets maximum off-road capability and fuel efficiency. The Renegade will offer up to 16 strategic powertrain combinations – the most ever in a Jeep vehicle – customized to markets around the world to meet a range of performance and efficiency needs. Powertrain options include:

  • Four MultiAir gasoline engine offerings
  • Two MultiJet II diesel engine offerings
  • Efficient and flex-fuel capable E.torQ engine
  • Emissions and fuel-saving Stop&Start technology
  • Segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission
  • Two manual and one dual-dry clutch transmission (DDCT) offerings

World’s first small SUV with nine-speed automatic transmission
Like the new Jeep Cherokee, the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade has raised the bar — this time in the small SUV class — with the first available nine-speed automatic transmission. When paired with either the 2.0-liter MultiJet II diesel engine, or 2.4-liter MultiAir2 gas engine, the nine-speed transmission delivers numerous benefits customers will appreciate, including aggressive launches, smooth power delivery at highway speeds and improved fuel efficiency versus a six-speed automatic transmission.

Segment-exclusive technologies once found only on higher classed SUVs
The all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade offers technology features once found only in upper-segment vehicles, and makes them attainable to customers in the growing small SUV segment – including award-winning Uconnect Access, Uconnect touchscreens and the segment’s largest full-color instrument cluster.

  • Uconnect Access: Utilizes embedded cellular technology to allow Jeep Renegade occupants to get directly in contact with local emergency-service dispatchers – all with the push of the 9-1-1 Assist button on the rearview mirror. Uconnect Access applies the same logic to roadside assistance. One push of the “ASSIST” button summons help directly from Chrysler Group’s roadside assistance provider, or the Vehicle Customer Care Center. Further peace of mind comes from the system’s ability to receive text messages, announce receipt of texts, identify senders and then “read” the messages aloud with Bluetooth-equipped cell phones. AOL Autos named Uconnect Access its “Technology of the Year for 2013.” (Uconnect services may vary in different markets)
  • Uconnect touchscreen radio systems: Award-winning in-vehicle handsfree communication, entertainment and available navigation. Key features available on the Uconnect 5.0 and 6.5AN systems include a 5.0-inch or 6.5-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, single or dual-turner, radio data system capability (RDS), digital audio broadcast (DAB), HD Radio, digital media broadcasting (DMB), SiriusXM Radio, SiriusXM Travel Link, SiriusXM Travel Link, USB port and auxiliary audio jack input. (Uconnect services may vary in different markets)
  • Segment’s largest full-color instrument cluster display: Filling the Jeep Renegade’s gauge cluster in front of the driver is an available 7-inch, full-color, premium multiview display, featuring a reconfigurable function that enables drivers to personalize information inside the instrument cluster. The information display is designed to visually communicate information, using graphics and text, quickly and easily.

Renegade features up to 70 advanced safety and security features
Safety and security were at the forefront in the development of the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade, setting the stage for up to 70 available safety and security features – including the availability of Forward Collision Warning-Plus and LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus.

In addition, engineers added both active and passive safety and security features, including Blind-spot Monitoring; Rear Cross Path detection; ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines; electronic stability control (ESC) with electronic roll mitigation and seven standard air bags.

Jeep brand’s global resources
Designed in America and crafted in Italy, the 2015 Renegade continues the Jeep brand’s dedication to the global marketplace and demonstrates the depths of its available resources. The final assembly location for the Renegade will be at the Melfi Assembly Plant. The Renegade’s global portfolio of powertrain production includes the United States, Italy and Brazil.

The final assembly location for the Renegade will be at the Melfi Assembly Plant. The Renegade’s global portfolio of powertrain production includes the United States, Italy and Brazil.

For many years now we have always wondered what would be the infotainment or control system to dominate the automotive industry. Though we may not know any time soon, or in our lifetime for that matter, but what we do know is Apple is getting into the car game to stir things up a bit and it might work.

Apple is poised to change up the car game with their new CarPlay system, which we will actually start seeing in select vehicles before this year is out. CarPlay promises to bring the iPhone/iPad experience to your car with an easy-to-use touch-screen interface that you may already be familiar with provided you already have experience using an iPhone or iPad.

It was only a matter of time before we saw some form of the Apple OS X in cars and that day is closer than ever as the likings of BMW, Ferrari, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar – Land Rover, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Volvo are all signed up for this new tech. The first iteration of the Apple CarPlay will debut this week at the Geneva Auto Show where Ferrari, Benz, and Volvo will be the very first adopters.

Of course with any Apple product the integration between other Apple devices will be seamless as the CarPlay system promises to link or sync up with your iPhone 5, 5C and 5S with virtually ease. Siri will also be a big part of the system for unsurpassed voice recognition and virtual controls for your vehicle. Additionally, CarPlay could potentially be one of several supported platforms on top of others that auto makers choose from.

Things are already in motion for CarPlay as the next iOS 7 update will come with in-car support as new models launch with the integration built in.

For more information on Apple CarPlay and updates, Apple has setup their own web portal about the new system at http://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/.

Apple Rolls Out CarPlay Giving Drivers a Smarter, Safer & More Fun Way to Use iPhone in the Car

CarPlay Premieres with Leading Auto Manufacturers at the Geneva International Motor Show

GENEVA―March 3, 2014―Apple® today announced that leading auto manufacturers are rolling out CarPlay, the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhone® in the car. CarPlay gives iPhone users an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, use Maps, listen to music and access messages with just a word or a touch. Users can easily control CarPlay from the car’s native interface or just push-and-hold the voice control button on the steering wheel to activate Siri® without distraction. Vehicles from Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo will premiere CarPlay to their drivers this week, while additional auto manufacturers bringing CarPlay to their drivers down the road include BMW Group, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia Motors, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan Motor Company, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota Motor Corp.

“CarPlay has been designed from the ground up to provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing. “iPhone users always want their content at their fingertips and CarPlay lets drivers use their iPhone in the car with minimized distraction. We have an amazing lineup of auto partners rolling out CarPlay, and we’re thrilled it will make its debut this week in Geneva.”

Apple has led consumer technology integration in the car for more than a decade. CarPlay brings your car and iPhone together for a thoughtful experience that lets drivers focus on driving, while also tapping into everything they want to do with their iPhone.

Once iPhone is connected to a vehicle with CarPlay integration, Siri helps you easily access your contacts, make calls, return missed calls or listen to voicemails. When incoming messages or notifications arrive, Siri provides an eyes-free experience by responding to requests through voice commands, by reading drivers’ messages and letting them dictate responses or simply make a call.

CarPlay makes driving directions more intuitive by working with Maps to anticipate destinations based on recent trips via contacts, emails or texts, and provides routing instructions, traffic conditions and ETA. You can also simply ask Siri and receive spoken turn-by-turn directions, along with Maps, which will appear on your car’s built-in display.

CarPlay gives drivers access to all of their music, podcasts, audiobooks and iTunes Radio℠ with easy navigation through listening choices from the car’s built-in controls or simply by asking Siri to pull up what you’d like to hear. CarPlay also supports select third-party audio apps including Spotify and iHeartRadio, so you can listen to your favorite radio services or sports broadcast apps while driving.

Pricing & Availability
Apple CarPlay is available as an update to iOS 7 and works with Lightning-enabled iPhones, including iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5. CarPlay will be available in select cars shipping in 2014.
