Aston CEO Says He’d Be Interested In The Valkyrie Racing At Le Mans 12

Aston Martin chief executive Andy Palmer has admitted that he would be very interested in seeing the Valkyrie hypercar compete at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Speaking to Autocar, Palmer said that as it stands, the top level of LMP1 racing is of no interest to Aston Martin. However, if the FIA changes the regulations on sportscar racing to allow for racing derivatives of road cars to compete at the top of the sport, the British marque would seriously consider a campaign.

“My personal perspective is very clear: Aston Martin will never compete in a prototype category because it has no relevance to us.

“But if they allowed racing derivatives of road cars, that would be very interesting to us and, I suspect, the fans.

“Road-derived race cars fighting for the win is in keeping with the history of sportscar and Le Mans racing, and the prospect of the likes of Valkyrie fighting against McLaren P1, LaFerrari and more would be interesting to more than just me, I suspect,” Palmer said.

Quizzed about whether Aston would race the Valkyrie if such changes were made to the sport, the executive said “Watch this space.”

If Aston Martin achieves it goals with the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro, a variant tweaked for Le Mans could be just as fast as an LMP1 car. In fact, Aston Martin claims that the Valkyrie AMR Pro will achieve lap times to rival a modern Formula One car.

Beyond its use of a naturally-aspirated V12 engine and hybrid system delivering roughly 1000 hp, the Valkyrie will be able to achieve such incredible speeds thanks to the huge amounts of downforce it’ll produce. Aston says it will sustain cornering forces in excess of 3.3G and braking deceleration of more than 3.5G.

Someone Is Selling A Valkyrie Build Slot, Aston Martin Might Beg To Differ 7

Aston Martin’s CEO, Andy Palmer, has made it crystal clear that he will not tolerate customers that try to sell their Valkyrie build slots, promising to cancel their reservations on the spot.

However, one alleged owner must have missed the British marque’s head honcho’s statement and is now asking €3 million ($3,553,830) in exchange for their Valkyrie build slot in an ad posted on Mobile.

Whether the automaker will tolerate this or not remains to be seen, so interested parties might want to read the papers very carefully, and check with Aston Martin as well before transferring any money. The ad is also trying to lure a potential buyer by stating that this sale “is not tied to the obligatory purchase of an Aston Martin Lagonda, a stipulation forced upon original owners”.

We have to admit that, if it’s real, this seller’s page is amazing, as besides the Aston Martin Valkyrie build slot, he/she also claims to possess a Mercedes-AMG Project One build slot in addition to various high-end exotics, such as a Lamborghini Centenario and Sesto Elemento, a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta, FXX-K, and a Bugatti Chiron.

Daniel Ricciardo Confirms He’s Ordered An Aston Martin Valkyrie 28

Beyond the handsome paycheck, being a Formula One driver includes a number of other perks, as Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo has discovered.

During a recent conversation with Shmee150 in Abu Dhabi, the Australian confirmed that he’s secured a reservation for the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This comes despite the fact that Ricciardo doesn’t have a huge car collection and probably all comes down to his relationship with Aston Martin thanks to the Red Bull Racing Formula One team.

As development of the Valkyrie is still in its early stages, prototypes have yet to hit the pavement. However, Ricciardo says he wants to be a part of the hypercar’s development, hopefully jumping behind the wheel of it before virtually anyone else.

In the 18-months since the Valkyrie was first unveiled as a concept, the design of the vehicle has progressed massively and is now a mixture of curvaceous body panels and cutting-edge aerodynamic elements.

Unlike the Mercedes-AMG Project One which uses a Formula One powertrain, the Valkyrie will be more traditional, utilizing a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine developed by Cosworth. Although the engine will deliver roughly 900 hp by itself, Aston Martin will pair it with an energy recovery system to lift power to beyond 1,000 hp. When it’s all said and done, the British marque expects the track-only Valkyrie variant to rival an F1 car on a racetrack.

Aston Martin Teases Track-Focused Valkyrie AMR Pro 16

Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in ASTON MARTIN, Aston Martin Valkyrie, featured, new cars on 11 16th, 2017

The all-new Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro is the British marque’s track hypercar that will make you forget about Ferrari’s FXX K and McLaren’s P1 GTR.

Developed in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies and AF Racing, only 25 units of this track beast will be made, and all of them have been spoken for already, with deliveries to commence in 2020.

The most striking differences over the street-legal version of the Aston Martin Valkyrie are found on the outside, where “all the aerodynamic surfaces have been revised in the pursuit of significantly increased downforce”, in Aston’s own words.

Larger front and rear wing elements have been added, and the Valkyrie AMR Pro now sits on 18-inch front and rear wheels, smaller than the road car, which are shod in Michelin racing tires made to the same specification as those used by LMP1 cars in the WEC.

A significant amount of weight has been saved by removing the heater/de-mister blower and infotainment screens, and adding a polycarbonate windscreen and side windows, while using a lighter construction of the carbon fiber bodywork. Additionally, the exhaust system is also lighter, as are some suspension components, and the brakes are race-spec carbon-carbon.

The result is a very capable track hypercar that can sustain cornering forces in excess of 3.3G, and braking deceleration of more than 3.5G.

Aston Martin has also fiddled with the Valkyrie AMR Pro’s naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter Cosworth-made V12 engine, but they have yet to release the official specs. They do say, however, that it develops more power and torque than the street-legal version.

Thanks to these upgrades, Aston states that the Valkyrie AMR Pro can achieve lap times to rival those of a modern F1 or LMP1 car. Now, since driving it won’t exactly be easy, the automaker will provide owners with access to the same facilities as Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s F1 drivers, including time in the simulator, professional on-track tuition, and programs to improve their physical fitness.
