Can The New Opel Grandland X Challenge The SUV Establishment? 23

Up until recently, Opel/Vauxhall lagged behind in the popular crossover segment, as the Antara was discontinued and its sole offering was the sub-compact Mokka.

However, things have changed in the meantime, and the automaker offers not only an updated version of the Mokka, but also two new crossovers: the Crossland X and Grandland X.

The latter is the largest of the three and shares its underpinnings and engines with the latest Peugeot 3008. Just like its French counterpart, and unlike rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai and Seat Ateca that have all-wheel drive variants, it is solely front-wheel drive. There is a ‘Grip Control’ system available, though, which adjusts the traction control and stability settings depending on the road surface, and for most of its buyers it’ll probably do just fine.

Inside, the Grandland X has an upscale feel thanks to the soft touch materials, glossy black bits and aluminum trim, and rear legroom is okay.

On the downside, Opel’s SUV could learn a thing or two from the Ateca and Qashqai in terms of offering a comfortable ride and reduced road and wind noise.

WhatCar reviewed the Grandland X, and you can see the details, and their verdict, in the video that follows.

Opel CEO Teases New Grandland X On Social Media 5
Apr
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in new cars, opel, Opel Grandland X, Reports on 04 5th, 2017

The clock has started ticking for the new Opel Grandland X, which should be unveiled any day now.

Teased by the brand’s CEO, Karl-Thomas Neumann on social media, Opel’s upcoming flagship SUV will share its underpinnings with the latest Peugeot 3008.

This was decided way before General Motors sold Opel to PSA, and it’s not the first time the two companies collaborate on launching new products.

Exact details surrounding the new Opel Grandland X have yet to be released, but once it will be ready, expect a tweaked exterior design and a different cabin than the one found in its French cousin that uses the new i-Cockpit layout.

Moreover the new Opel Grandland X will also probably differ by offering an optional all-wheel drive version, something that isn’t on the list of the 3008’s model range.

Differences between the two models are believed to stop here, with the 1.6-liter petrol along with the 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter diesel units used on the 3008 probably ending up under the hood of the German SUV as well.

As for the exact reveal date of the new Opel Grandland X, the carmaker’s chief didn’t have much to say except for ‘Stay tuned!’, which backs up our previous statement that it could debut soon.
