Lynk & Co Is Expanding, And Here’s What Its Compact Hatch Might Look Like 5

After announcing their plans to launch two new models each year until 2020, it’s quite possible that Geely-owned Lynk & Co could build something that resembles this image.

So far, we know about their 01 SUV, the smaller 02 crossover, 03 sedan, plus rumors of a large SUV, an executive car and a small car for young buyers – which may or may not be a 5-door hatchback.

Since we don’t exactly know what the Chinese automaker means by “small car”, it could be anything from a city car to a supermini, or even a Golf rival.

If this vehicle will turn out to look a little something like what designer Kleber Silva drew up and posted to Behance recently, all we can say is that we won’t be the least surprised. His design borrows heavily from the 03 Sedan, utilizing its front fascia and taillights, yet featuring a different roof line and profile design that looks more sporty.

Now, it may not necessarily be pretty, but after receiving 6,000 orders for their 01 SUV in 137 seconds last week, you could say that Lynk & Co’s automotive design language is not exactly rubbing people the wrong way.

Lynk & Co Intends To Launch Two New Models A Year Until 2020 2

Lynk & Co intends on launching two new models a year until 2020, according to its vice president Alain Visser.

Sales of the company’s first production model, the 01 SUV, have just commenced in China but the Geely-owned company is already targeting a dramatic expansion.

“We will launch two new cars a year until 2020. Up to five or six in total – when we go global by 2020, we want to be selling 500,000 cars a year,” Visser said to Auto Express.

Once production of the 01 ramps up, Lynk & Co will launch the smaller 02 crossover, and shortly after it lands in showrooms, the 03 sedan will follow. Other expected vehicles include a large SUV, an executive model and a small car targeting young buyers.

Talking about the firm’s plans, Lynk & Co head of design Peter Horbury said the brand will have a diverse range of vehicles:“We are not ruling out any bodystyles at this moment. There is room to look at something more youthful, more sporty – we’re seeing customers around 22 or 23 years old coming in to buy a new car now.”

Yesterday, Lynk & Co revealed that it received 6,000 orders for the 01 in just 137 seconds.

Lynk & CO 01 Goes On Sale In China, Gets 6,000 Orders In 137 Seconds 29

Lynk & CO’s global roll-out has begun with the first stop of course being China, where the Geely-owned brand received a record 6,000 orders in just 137 seconds for the 01 crossover.

The company organized a three-day pre-sales event but the initial allocation was completely sold out in 2 minutes 17 seconds, exceeding all expectations.

Prices for the Lynk & CO 01 in the Chinese market range between 158,800 RMB and 202,800 RMB ($24,055 to $30,720 in current exchange rates).

Just like it promised, Lynk’s sales model doesn’t include the traditional base model form and long options lists, instead it offers “a simple selection of fully equipped, one price selections”.

The new Lynk & CO 01 is based on the same underpinnings with the Volvo XC40 and has launched in the Chinese market with two Volvo-derived turbo petrol engines: a 150PS 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a 190PS 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. Other powertrains will be added later on, including a plug-in hybrid option with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a battery-electric option. No diesel units are planned.

Cheaper front-wheel drive versions come with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox while all-wheel drive models come fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

“Online and in our stores, we take away the anxiety of ticking options boxes and the pressure of selecting the right specification” said Alain Visser, senior vice president of Lynk & CO. “We want to break down the barriers to car ownership. No complicated combinations or decisions to make, and no negotiating. Our fixed price offering, subscription model, free connectivity and lifetime warranty take care of all the boring and complicated details, allowing the customer to focus on the fun stuff.”

Sales in Europe are planned to start in 2019 while Lynk & CO will arrive stateside in 2020. The 01 is currently being produced at the same assembly line with the Volvo XC40 in Taizhou, China. A second factory in China is also underway.

The company is currently considering extending production to Europe and to the U.S. by using Volvo’s production plants, including the one in Gent, Belgium and the one in South Carolina, USA.

“We have always said our manufacturing footprint will be global, and it will”, said Visser to Reuters. “It’s obvious that we are talking to Volvo to see whether there are opportunities within the small network of Volvo plants.”

Lynk&Co 02 Crossover Leaks Out Well Ahead Of Debut 19

Geely’s new Lynk&Co brand didn’t plan on revealing its third new model, we hear, until late in April at the Beijing Motor Show. But the first images of the crossover have leaked out ahead of time.

Called the 02, the compact crossover is expected to slot in below the 01. Autocar reports that it shares its Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) with the new Volvo XC40, fitting dimensionally in between those two models.

We’re also told to expect a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with a completely electric version to follow – and a suspension tuned to European tastes. The styling (ostensibly penned by Peter Horbury) certainly reveals its European influence, with details that remind us of Porsches and Saabs in particular.

Look for the Lynk&Co 02 to launch for the Europe market in 2019, alongside the aforementioned 01 crossover and 03 sedan.

Volvo And Lync & Co To Launch Compact Plug-In Hybrids In 2018 18
Nov
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Geely, Lync & Co 01, Lynk & Co, PHEV, Reports, VOLVO, Volvo XC40 on 11 18th, 2017

Volvo and Lync & Co will launch their first compact plug-in hybrid models in the second half of 2018. The compact plug-in hybrid powertrain will consist of a three-cylinder 1.5-liter petrol engine, an electric motor, the necessary battery pack and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The first models to hit the market with the specific powertrain will be the Volvo XC40 and the Lync & Co 01 and will initially offer up to 31 miles of pure electric driving range. However. the two companies will offer a further developed version with up to 50 miles of EV range down the line, Autocar reports.

The same models are also scheduled to be offered in pure electric versions as well by 2020, with the two companies considering two different variants that offer 249 miles (400km) and 311 miles (500km) of range respectively.

As for when Lync & Co will hit the market, the newborn car brand will be initially launched in China next year, followed by Germany in 2019. Other European markets and the United States will follow shortly after, but there aren’t any solid plans for right-hand drive markets like the UK at the moment.
