Porsche 911 GT2 RS And Lamborghini Huracan Performante Battle It Out On The Track 8

Every self-respecting supercar manufacturer must have at least one hardcore version of its best-seller nowadays. Even though you are spoiled for choice in Porsche, the GT2 RS is without a question the top 911 money can buy, while Lamborghini launched the Huracan Performante last summer.

You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that these two are obvious rivals, but how can you determine which is the best? Why, you take both of them out to the track and time the laps, that’s how.

The venue that was chosen by SportAuto was Hockenheim, but before checking out the video, let’s talk numbers.

The 911 GT2 RS has 690 horses and 553 pound-feet (750Nm) of torque from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six, needs 2.9 seconds for the 0-62mph (100km/h) acceleration, and maxes out at 212mph (340km/h).The Huracan Performante, on the other hand, is powered by a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10. It might lack turbochargers, but it puts out a respectable 631hp and 443lb-ft (600Nm) of torque nevertheless, which allow it to sprint to 62mph (100km/h) in 2.9sec and reach a top speed in excess of 202mph (325km/h).

So, they are quite evenly matched, and even if the Porsche having a power advantage and can boast about being the fastest RWD production car at Nurburgring, the most extreme version of the Huracan is no pushover, thus their duel on a track that, refreshingly, isn’t the ‘Ring, is quite a spectacle, as you can see in the video that follows.

Porsche invited journalists to Portugal to put the new 911 GT2 RS through its paces on the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimao.

In the presence of Walter Rohrl, Mark Webber and Hans-Joachim Struck, and accompanied by various other Porsches, including the 918 Spyder, the journos had their first taste of the fastest and most powerful stock 911 ever.

Powered by a 700PS (690hp) and 750Nm (553lb-ft) of torque 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six, which is mated to a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox, the latest GT2 RS needs just 2.8sec to sprint from rest to 100km/h (62mph), and reaches a top speed of 340km/h (212mph).

Thanks to its massive output and clever engineering, which includes a new aero agenda and weight saving in addition to rear-axle steering and a variable locking rear differential, the German supercar stole the Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record from the Lamborghini Huracan Performante with the company’s test driver, Lars Kern, behind the wheel.

Interested parties are no longer, however, able to buy a new 911 GT2 RS straight from Porsche, as all 1,000 units were already spoken for, but we’re pretty sure it won’t be long before they start popping up in the “used” supercar market – accompanied with a premium, of course…

Rohrl Suggests Porsche 911 GT2 RS Is Almost Too Fast For The ‘Ring 16

Porsche development driver Walter Rohrl has suggested that the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS is almost too fast for the Nurburgring.

During a recent interview with Drive, the rally legend said he requested not to be involved in the car’s lap record attempt, partially due to concerns about the risk of a high-speed crash.

“You have no room for mistakes, that’s the bad thing. On the speeds like in this car (GT2), you go Schwedenkreuz at 295km/h and Fuchsrohre at 270km/h, and I know all the accidents which have been on these places in the last 20 years.

“If you come to Fuchsrohre at 270, I always think one of the test drivers from Bridgestone, he broke the [wheel] rim…,” Rohrl said.

Rohrl cited the low downforce of most production cars as a reason why Nurburgring laps are becoming increasingly dangerous. The new GT2 RS has a respectable 416 kg of maximum downforce but compared to a racing car, that’s not much.

Despite the challenges presented by the circuit, Porsche’s head of motorsport and GT road cars development, Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, said the German carmaker will continue pushing the limits of lap times at the circuit.

“Mankind developed all the time going faster. Why not keep the engineering challenge on? There’s no reason to stop the competition,” he said.

In case its blistering Nurburgring lap time hadn’t already made you fall in love with the new 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, this particularly special example may convince you of the car’s greatness.

Recently delivered in Nuremberg, Germany, this GT2 RS benefits from the firm’s Paint to Sample programme and is finished in British Racing Green, without a doubt one of the most evocative car colors on earth.

Like the original silver show car, the owner of this car also opted for the stunning matte gold wheels which work beautifully with the paint scheme. The desirable Weissach Package has also been specified, as evidenced by the two sections of exposed carbon fiber on the hood.

As deliveries of the new GT2 RS continue around the world, we’re looking forward to seeing more unique examples hitting the streets.

This Is What 212MPH Feels Like In The New Porsche GT2 RS 10

Newly-released onboard video demonstrates just how fast the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS is on a straight line, hitting its 212mph top speed with uncanny ease.

The baddest Porsche 911 has returned stronger and more capable than ever, packing 700PS and all the aero trickery imaginable. More impressively the car weighs almost the same with the GT3 model, so performance is understandably mind-blowing.

As a testament of the new 911 king’s abilities, the new GT2 RS managed to lap the Nurburgring in a ridiculous 6:47.3, making it the fastest rear-driven production car in the world on the relevant charts.

Features like the rear-steering, a specially calibrated PSM, a crazy aero agenda and super-sticky tires help the GT2 RS to become less of a widow-maker and more of a race car with number plates.

0-62mph (100km/h) comes in 2.8 seconds, with 124mph (200km/h) in 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 212mph (341km/h). That last part was GPS-verified by Sport Auto, which took the car on a top speed run on the German Autobahn and showed how crazily quick it can hit this sort of speeds.

Is The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Everything We Thought It’d Be? 7

We know that the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the world’s fastest globally-homologated production car at the Nurburgring. But, is it a one-trick pony?

To find out, Autocar jumped behind the wheel of the new car at a technical handling circuit, far removed from the Nordschleife and its dozens of high-speed corners.

The GT2 RS has a long reputation as being dangerous, hence its ‘Widowmaker’ nickname. However, it appears as though the carmaker has dialed down the hilarity of the previous-gen car for one that is far more precise, capable, and refined when pushed to its limits on a racetrack.

Some Porsche fans may be disappointed to hear this but as is the way with most supercars nowadays, they need to do everything well. Whether that’s cruise through tight city streets, blast down the Autobahn or set record-breaking lap times, the GT2 RS has it handled.

However, as amazing as the new car is, we’d still take a 2018 GT3 with a six-speed manual.

Forza 7 Says Porsche 911 GT2 RS And Lambo Centenario Are Dead Even 4

Two of the most popular supercars in the world, the Lamborghini Centenario and the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS couldn’t be more different.

On one hand, the GT2 RS is a rear-wheel drive and engined, with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat six unit, pumping out 700 PS (690 HP). The Centenario, on the other hand features, all-wheel drive and a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 placed in the center that’s good for 770 PS (760 HP).

In a straight line, both cars will get from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds, although it’s the Centenario that will max out at 350 km/h (217 mph), as the GT2 RS will “only” do 340 km/h (211 mph).

If you want to talk differences, the price gap between the two is huge, since it’s doubtful that any GT2 RS will ever sell for $2 million.

Of course, we’d love a real life comparison, but what we have here is an interesting virtual drag race, courtesy of Forza 7. In the gaming it world, it would seem that they’re extremely well matched in a straight line.

With the new 911 GT2 RS being one of the most eagerly anticipated cars out there, we’ll take any chance we can get at witnessing what it can do against a track-bred rival.

While performance-related results in Forza will always vary compared to the real world, this latest installment of the gaming franchise still has a lot to offer, especially to petrolheads itching to find out just what the GT2 RS is capable of.

Before we dive into the numbers, we should remind everybody that a straight-line drag race isn’t what these two supercars were built for. Still, with over 700 horses on each side, getting up to speed is a breeze.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful road-legal 911 ever. Its twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six is good for 700 PS (690 HP), allowing for a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of just 2.8 seconds, the exact same as the more powerful 750 PS (740 HP) Aventador SV.

During this high-speed drag race courtesy of the Ericship111 YouTube channel, we see both cars crossing the line at roughly 200 mph (321 km/h). Care to guess who won? There were only 0.65 seconds between them.
