Watch Richard Hammond Smoke Aventador And NSX With The Rimac 11

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the first episode of The Grand Tour’s second season, stop what you’re doing and check it out immediately.

If you have seen it, the video below showcases one of the most memorable segments from the trio’s Swiss road trip in the Rimac Concept_One, Lamborghini Aventador S, and Honda NSX, showing just how quick the Croatian electric hypercar is.

Filmed before Richard Hammond’s unfortunate crash onboard the Rimac, the drag race took place at an airfield in Switzerland and marks a return to form for the three ex-Top Gear hosts.

To be fair to the Aventador and NSX, the Rimac is in a totally-different performance class, so it’s no surprise that it wiped the floor with the two supercars. In fact, the Concept_One used in the film delivers 1,224 hp thanks to four electric motors and a 90 kWh battery pack. This allows it to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 220 mph (354 km/h).

Details of the first episode of The Grand Tour’s second season have been announced and it’s the one we’ve all been waiting to see.

Dubbed Past, Present or Future, the episode will see Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May driving the Lamborghini Aventador S, Rimac Concept_One, and Lamborghini Aventador S through the stunning roads of Switzerland.

As we all know, Richard Hammond was badly injured during the filming of this episode after crashing the Concept_One at a hillclimb event. The episode will include footage of the incident but it could be limited as the onboard cameras were destroyed in the crash and ensuing fire.

The episode will also debut the new Celebrity Face Off segment. It will see former The Voice UK judge Ricky Wilson going up against David Hasselhoff.

The episode will drop on November 8 on Amazon Prime.

Rimac Teases Second Electric Hypercar Ahead Of Geneva Debut 1
Dec
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Electric Vehicles, Geneva Motor Show, Reports, Rimac on 12 1st, 2017

Rimac Automobili dropped the first teaser of its next hypercar, confirming at the same time a debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The dark image outlines the silhouette and the proportions of the new electric hypercar, which appears to adopt a more aggressive styling approach, compared to the Concept One.

Internally codenamed “Concept Two”, the new electric hypercar will not only be more powerful and faster than the original $1 million Rimac, but also more expensive too.

The company posted the teaser image on its social media with the caption “Soon to be revealed: The all-new Rimac hypercar, a true game changer. Premieres at Geneva 2018. Stay tuned.”

The Rimac Concept One was produced in just eight examples, plus two track-only Concept S models. Combined power of its four electric motors is rated at 1224hp and 1180lb-ft of torque. 0-62mph requires 2.5 seconds.

Unlike the Concept One, Rimac wants to build more examples of the next hypercar, targeting a production run of 100 cars and expecting to sell the first 20 in its first year.

Rimac’s Next Hypercar To Tackle Tesla Roadster 27
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in Electric Vehicles, Reports, Rimac, Tesla, Tesla Roadster on 11 27th, 2017

The second-generation Tesla Roadster has been stealing a lot of headlines recently but for the moment, it remains as nothing more than a prototype with some really impressive performance figures attached to it.

When it comes to all-electric hypercars that have proven their performance, it is the Rimac Concept_One that has led the charge. Soon, it will be replaced by a new model and it could take the fight directly to the Tesla Roadster.

We first heard about the new hypercar in September and according to Auto Guide, the new Rimac will push the performance boundary.

Currently codenamed the Concept Two, the car will use a new powertrain but it’s not yet known exactly how Rimac will improve on its current battery and electric motor technology. Either way, we can expect to see in excess of the 1,224 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque delivered by the Concept_One.

Beyond its performance improvements, Rimac chief operating officer Monika Mikac recently revealed that the new model will also be more comfortable and luxurious than its predecessor.

There’s Something Delightfully Incongruous About A Base-Spec Exotic 26

Automakers are doing their best these days to make even their most basic, budget-friendly vehicles look polished. But there are some you can expect to see in base spec – mostly for professional use and deployment as part of large fleets.

We’re talking about work-a-day vehicles like the Ram Tradesman, for example, or the Opel Corsavan. But an exotic supercar? Perish the thought!

That’s precisely the delightful incongruity we’ve been seeing these lately, albeit only in the digital realm: six-figure supercars and even seven-figure hypercars stripped of their painted bumpers and flashy wheels, fitted instead with matte black noses and tails and plain old steel rims.

Of course, even if you could, ordering one that way wouldn’t put much of a dent in the purchase price of something as expensive as a Bugatti Chiron, Koenigsegg Agera, Pagani Huayra, or even something as relatively “affordable” as a Lamborghini Huracan, Aston Martin DB11, or Mercedes-AMG GT.

It’d ruin the handling too, and make your big-buck exotic look like it were in the middle of being repaired. So we’re thankful that none of these exist in reality, but it’s still funny to look at these curious renderings from Nikita Aksyonov and chuckle at the “what if” of it all.
