Since the 2019 QX50 crossover won’t make it into Infiniti retailers nationwide until Spring 2018, the automaker is also introducing a new reservation program.

This gives customers the opportunity to reserve their car during the pre-launch phase, but also to receive tech, audio or home-themed luxury gifts as the reservations increase.

“The 2019 QX50 is one of the most significant product launches in INFINITI’s history, which is why we created a reservation program as sophisticated and innovative as the vehicle itself,” said Infiniti marketing exec, Phil O’Connor.

“We know that our customers want more than just material things, they want meaningful experiences. That’s why the rewards are more than just incentives. The gifts are well-suited for the luxury lifestyle, and the reservation program is designed to help build a sense of community.”

The program has been split up into tiers, so that the more people who reserve a car, the greater these incentives will be. The first tier has already been unlocked as reservations exceeded 4,000. The second tier will be unlocked at 8,000 reservations, while the third tier needs 12,000 reservations.

Prices for the all-new 2019 QX50 start at $36,550 if you go for the Pure FWD model, and will climb all the way to $45,150 for the flagship Essential AWD version.

On-board the QX50 you’ll find the available ProPILOT Assist as well as the first FWD application of Infiniti’s Direct Adaptive Steering system. Additional tech includes Distance Control Assist, Back-up Collision Intervention, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention and Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.

As for what’s underneath the hood – it’s the world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio engine, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo petrol.

Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept Lands In Detroit Boasting Near-Future Tech 15

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in concepts, Detroit-Auto-Show, featured, Infiniti, Infiniti Concepts on 01 15th, 2018

Infiniti has unveiled the Q Inspiration Concept at NAIAS 2018, a car that reflects the automaker’s new design language, while also featuring a VC-Turbo variable compression ratio engine and autonomous drive tech.

Aesthetically, the concept boasts classical sedan forms, though with coupe-like proportions and an elongated silhouette. Out in front, it has a large double-arch grille, sharp louvres along the sides of the hood, and blade-like vents flanking the wheel arches.

Other notable exterior design features would be the sharp LED strip headlamps, pillar-less rear-hinged doors and the single rear light strip.

Inside, it’s all very concise and minimalist, with a human-centric cabin that’s said to reduce the “noise” of the interior, helping the driver focus entirely on the road ahead. Each passenger gets a touch screen (HMI – Human Machine Interface), as the system can also monitor the occupants’ biometrics.

“The Q Inspiration interior is reduced to a minimalist expression of wellbeing and comfort, and strives to create a warm and uncompromisingly modern atmosphere, like one so often finds in Tokyo residential architecture. The purpose being to enable users in a new era of connectivity, while simultaneously enriching the driving experience with materials of the best quality, crafted by the hands of the artist,” stated Infiniti design exec, Karim Habib.

Speaking of high-quality materials, the Q Inspiration cabin’s inside door pockets are lined with a ‘Nishijin-ori’ material, which includes golden washi paper shreds woven with silk threads. Aside from the luxury factor, this material also acts as a high tech sensor, allowing passengers to switch on and adjust the pocket lighting.

Underneath the hood, the Q Inspiration’s VC-Turbo powertrain continually adjusts its compression ratio in order to optimize fuel efficiency. According to the Japanese automaker, this engine will offer a new approach to power delivery in the mid-size sedan segment, challenging the notion that only hybrid or diesel engines can deliver a high torque figure or good fuel economy.

As for safety, the Q Inspiration previews the next stage of development for Infiniti’s ProPILOT autonomous drive system, which still aims at ultimately allowing drivers to retain control over their vehicle, acting as a co-pilot of sorts. However, when the driver is ready to kick back and relax, the system will provide end-to-end autonomous capability, with multi-lane highway driving and intersection auto-navigation functionalities.

Infiniti is bringing a new concept called Q Inspiration at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The company’s latest concept will have the form of a flagship sedan, adopting a more four-door coupe-like shape with revised proportions. The hood will be shorter, with the cabin being longer and featuring big chunks of glass to make it feel like a proper premium lounge for passengers.

We still don’t know what kind of powertrain Infiniti is going to use in the Q Inspiration concept but expect to see a version of the new variable compression engine that debuted with the 2019 QX50, or even an electrified powertrain.

More importantly the upcoming Q Inspiration will give us an early taste of what the company is planning to do design-wise with its upcoming models, adopting more flowing lines and more imposing, muscular shapes.

The new Infiniti Q Inspiration is set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show on January 15, so stay tuned.

Infiniti’s full-size flagship SUV, the QX80, doesn’t discriminate when it comes to luxury, treating all of its passengers to the same levels of comfort regardless of where they’re sitting.

In order to display that on video, Infiniti put together a 30-second national spot called ‘Thrones”, which will air for the very first time on television on January 1, 2018.

The spot opens with a series of images showing some of the most luxurious seats in the world – we’re talking custom-made thrones fit only for kings and queens.

Next thing you know, you’re in the new QX80, where each passenger can enjoy the spacious and comfortable semi-aniline leather-appointed seating options, as well as the wood trim accents, the updated InTouch infotainment system and the advanced rear entertainment system.

“We designed the 2018 QX80 with the mindset that luxury is better when shared, offering luxurious amenities that every passenger can enjoy,” said marketing exec, Phil O’Connor. “The beginning of the commercial says it best: ‘For centuries, the best seats were built for one.’ Today, we aim to deliver the ultimate expression of inclusive luxury where no passenger takes a back seat.”

The 2018 Infiniti QX80 is available in both 2WD and 4WD, with the entry-level 2WD model featuring a base price of $64,750.

Consumer Reports Says The Mercedes GLA Is The Least Satisfying Car In America 21
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Acura, Acura ILX, Chevrolet, Chevrolet Trax, Consumer Reports, Dodge, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Journey, Fiat, Fiat 500, Ford, Ford Transit, Infiniti, Infiniti QX60, mercedes, nissan, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Versa on 12 21st, 2017

New vehicles are typically one of the largest purchases that consumers make so it’s important that you buy something that you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen and sometimes owners spend tens of thousands of dollars on something they regret buying in the first place. Consumer Reports want to help people avoid this mistake so they’ve used data from their Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey along with their own testing and reliability ratings to come up with a list of the ten least satisfying vehicles in America.

Dodge Grand Caravan

The Dodge Grand Caravan dates back to 2008 and its $25,995 price tag simply can’t make up for its many faults. As Consumer Reports notes, the minivan has the worst fuel economy rating in its class and its second-row seats are just plain lousy.

Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 bills itself as fun city car but it’s simply a small, overpriced hatchback with retro styling. There are a handful of interesting variants but CR says the model suffers from a choppy ride, an awkward driving position, and a noisy interior.

Ford Transit Connect

The Ford Transit Connect was designed as a commercial vehicle and the magazine says consumers shouldn’t think about it as a minivan replacement. While it offers good handling and a decent ride, there are plenty of faults including mediocre fuel economy ratings, a cheap interior, and a lack of features.

Infiniti QX60

Luxury vehicles are supposed to be comfortable, quick, and luxurious. The QX60 ticks a few of those boxes but there’s no hiding the fact that the crossover is a Nissan Pathfinder in an extra-large suit. Despite highlighting the model’s spacious and well-appointed interior, Consumer Reports say the QX60’s fuel-economy rating is “so-so” and the driving experience is “mushy.”

Dodge Journey

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is prominently featured on this year list and that’s largely due to aging vehicles such as the Journey. While it’s relatively affordable, with pricing starting at $21,195, it suffers from worst-in-class fuel economy ratings. Consumer Reports is brutal when it comes to the Journey as the publication says “This low-rated model is a poor value anywhere — even at the airport rental lot.”

Nissan Versa Sedan

The Nissan Versa is one of the most affordable sedans in America but buyers might want to simply shop the classifieds. That bargain basement price is a result of some major tradeoffs including a cheap interior and an underpowered engine that is paired to a continuously variable transmission. The model also suffers from a stiff ride and clumsy handling.

Chevrolet Trax

The Trax recently received a facelift but Consumer Reports says one of the biggest issues is the model’s turbocharged 1.4-liter engine which isn’t powerful or fuel-efficient. The organization also notes the Trax has a cramped interior, a stiff ride, and ambitious pricing.

Acura ILX

Like the Trax, the ILX was recently updated to fix its many shortfalls but these improvements didn’t address the car’s “stiff” and “jumpy ride.” Other disappointments include incessant road noise, a bad transmission, and a confusing infotainment system.

Nissan Sentra

The Sentra has a lot going for it but even responsive handling and a spacious interior can’t make up for a stiff ride and a driving experience that is described as “ho-hum and joyless.” The base model is particularly disappointing as it is one of the slowest accelerating cars in its class.

Mercedes GLA-Class

The most disappointing vehicle might come as a surprise because it’s made by Mercedes-Benz. Despite its luxury ambitions, the GLA is a high-riding hatchback that is small, cramped, and expensive as pricing starts at $33,400. Consumer Reports say the crossover suffers from a stiff ride, a loud interior, a bad gearbox, and poor visibility – just to name a few things.

New Infiniti Sedan Concept Teased Ahead Of Detroit Debut 21

Posted by Michael Karkafiris in concepts, Detroit-Auto-Show, featured, Infiniti, Infiniti Concepts on 12 21st, 2017

Infiniti has dropped the first teaser image of a brand new concept which will preview the company’s new design language.

The Japanese company says that the sedan concept will be the “first manifestation” of Infiniti’s new design direction.

“The new Infiniti concept car will take the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution,” said Karim Habib, Infiniti’s Executive Design Director. A shift toward smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains; we were able to create an alternative form with flowing gestures, more engaging in character and more enriching in experience.”

“With its long cabin, balanced proportions and muscular stance, the concept heralds in a new era for Infiniti models,” he added.

According to the latest reports, Infiniti’s new concept will have the form of a flagship sedan that will mix sporty design language with new technologies, but we still don’t know if the company will indeed be previewing a new flagship model.

The company has recently introduced new models like the QX80 and more recently the QX50 which is also the first production model with a variable compression engine.

Infiniti will reveal the new concept in Detroit, on January 15, so stay tuned for more information.

Wards Names Its Ten Best Engines Of 2018 15

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica, Ford, Ford F-150, Ford Mustang, honda, Honda Civic Type-R, Honda Clarity, Infiniti, infiniti q50, Jaguar, Jaguar-XF, Kia, Kia Stinger, Toyota Camry on 12 15th, 2017

Wards Auto has released its annual list of the 10 Best Engines for 2018.

After spending two months testing 32 different powertrains, the company’s editors selected the winners. Surprisingly, the winners were primarily from mainstream brands and the publication notes not a single German automaker made the list.

Ford came away with two wins as editors loved the twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 in the F-150 as well as the 5.0-liter V8 engine that resides in the Mustang GT. Other winners include the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the Honda Civic Type R and the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that powers the Infiniti Q50. Jaguar and Kia also appeared on the top 10 list for the first time thanks to the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the XF and the turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 in the Stinger.

Alternative powertrains had a strong showing as well as Wards honored the Chevrolet Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Honda Clarity, and Toyota Camry Hybrid. These models are a very diverse group as the cars have electric, plug-in hybrid, fuel-cell, and hybrid powertrains.

Performance models were largely absent from the list even though contenders included the Audi RS3 and S4. The sole diesel engine, the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder in the Chevrolet Equinox, also failed to make the cut.

2019 Infiniti QX50 Fires Warning Shot At Premium Compact SUV Segment 29

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Galleries, Infiniti, Infiniti QX50, LA Auto Show, new cars on 11 29th, 2017

Infiniti brought their 2019 QX50 to the LA Auto Show in order to showcase its dynamic lines and stylish interior, hoping it can go on to challenge the likes of the Mercedes GLC or the new BMW X3.

The new QX50 is built on an all-new platform, featuring a FWD-based layout, meant to make it one of the most refined, sporty and spacious crossovers in its segment.

“The 2019 QX50 is the most important vehicle we have ever launched, and it embodies everything the brand stands for: Beautiful design, advanced technology and empowering performance,” said Infiniti’s global VP, Christian Meunier.

Carrying such a heavy torch requires a strong power unit, which is why the Japanese automaker fitted the all-new QX50 with the world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio engine, combining the power of a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol unit with the torque and fuel efficiency of a four-cylinder diesel – at least that’s how Infiniti sees it.

While no straight line performance figures have been released, we do know the engine puts down 268 HP (272 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque, with the help of an XTRONIC CVT.

As standard, buyers can purchase the QX50 with front wheel drive, as the AWD system costs extra.

2019 Infiniti QX50 Bows In LA With World’s First Production Variable Compression Engine 29

Posted by Michael Gauthier in Galleries, Infiniti, Infiniti QX50, Infiniti Videos, LA Auto Show, new cars, video on 11 29th, 2017

Following a preview earlier this month, Infiniti has unveiled the 2019 QX50.

Previewed by the QX Sport Inspiration concept, the production model has a “Powerful Elegance” design that has been created to give the crossover a commanding presence. As part of this mission, the model has been equipped with a bold front fascia that features a double-arch grille and slender LED headlights.

The dynamic styling is evident elsewhere as designers installed a clamshell hood, strong character lines, and tasteful amounts of plastic body cladding. A closer inspection reveals a chromed dual exhaust system, LED taillights, and 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels.

Infiniti interiors have always been a bit of a mixed bag but the cabin in the QX50 makes an impressive first appearance. A variety of different types of leather will be available and they can be mated with wood or aluminum trim.

Another notable interior feature is the new InTouch infotainment system which consists of a main 8-inch touchscreen display and a second 7-inch touchscreen which is used to control the climate and entertainment functions. Other highlights include an available heads-up display and a cargo compartment that can hold up to 64.4 cubic feet (1823 liters) of luggage when the rear seats are folded down.

Power is provided by an all-new 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine which produces 268 hp (200 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an XTRONIC continuously variable transmission which has been designed to replicate a traditional eight-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive will be optional.

While this is normally where we would stop talking about the engine, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo is truly unique as it is the world’s first production engine with a variable compression ratio. The ratio ranges from 8:1 to 14:1 and it enables the model to offer high-performance as well as impressive fuel-efficiency. Speaking of the latter, the QX50 will have a combined fuel economy rating of 27 mpg with front-wheel drive and 26 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.

Since Infiniti is a luxury brand, it should come as little surprise the QX50 can be equipped with an impressive assortment of driver assistance features. These include Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Back-up Collision Intervention, and Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection.

One of the more notable features is the ProPILOT Assist function which is a semi-autonomous driving system that allows the car to take over “single-lane driving operation at the push of a button, without the driver’s input on acceleration, braking, or steering.”

2019 Infiniti QX50 Uncovered Before LA Premiere 24
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in featured, Infiniti, Infiniti QX50, LA Auto Show, new cars, Reports, SUV on 11 24th, 2017

The first official image of the 2019 Infiniti QX50 mid-size SUV has been published before the vehicle’s launch at the LA Auto Show.

In designing the QX50, Infiniti has kept the styling eerily similar to the QX50 Concept from earlier this year. In fact, the only significant differences on the front fascia are unique headlights, fewer chrome accents and a set of small faux air intakes under the headlights.

Like the concept, the side of Infiniti’s new QX50 features black wheel arch trim, chrome accents around the side windows and a pair of seductive lines running horizontally along the doors.

Beneath the sleek bodywork of the QX50 sits a new front-wheel drive platform that’s 23 per cent more rigid than the old model.

The headline of the new Infiniti QX50 isn’t the platform, however. Instead, what really sets the SUV apart from any other production vehicle is the VC-Turbo four-cylinder, featuring a continuously adjusting compression ratio between 8:1 for maximum performance and 14:1 for increased efficiency. At full chat, the engine delivers 268 hp and 380 Nm of torque. When mated to a CVT transmission, front-wheel drive variants will hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds. All-wheel drive models will slash that time to 6.3 seconds.

Like many other new models from Nissan, the Infiniti QX50 includes the company’s ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving technology, capable of controlling steering, acceleration, and braking on single-lane highways.

Stay tuned to Carscoops in the coming days as more photos and details about the QX50 are released.

First Teaser of 2019 Infiniti QX50 Reveals Fresh Design Ques 21
Nov
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Infiniti, Infiniti QX50, LA Auto Show, Reports on 11 21st, 2017

Infiniti is gearing up for the big debut of the all-new 2019 QX50 at the LA Auto Show, dropping at the same time the first teaser image ahead of the November 28 reveal event.

The released picture shows a front end with similar design cues of the recently revealed 2018 QX80 but the new QX50 is expected to feature a more sculptural and dynamic shape.

The biggest news however are expected to come from under the bonnet as the new QX50 is reportedly going to become Infiniti’s first model to use their new petrol engine with variable compression technology.

The engine itself will be a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit with 268hp and 288lb-ft (390Nm) of torque and will feature an electrically controlled actuator and a unique “elliptic device” called a multilink, enabling it to adjust its compression ratio from 8:1 to 14:1.

Infiniti expects the new QX50 to be 27 percent more fuel efficient with the new engine, compared to the outgoing 325hp 3.7-liter V6-equipped model. A CVT is expected to be the only transmission option.

“As with all INFINITIs, we have been inspired by our desire to drive, expressed with power and artistry,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Senior Vice President of Nissan’s Global Design. “With this all-new model, inspiration comes from striking the perfect balance between lust and logic. At a glance, seamless and sculptural, getting closer to the car reveals an ingenious blend of proportion and space.”

Stay tuned for more on the all-new Infiniti QX50 in the next few days.

Infiniti’s Variable Compression Engine Produces 268 HP, Debuts In the 2019 QX50 16
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Infiniti, Infiniti QX50, Reports on 11 16th, 2017

Infiniti is gearing up to introduce the 2019 QX50 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the company recently invited a handful of journalists to try out the model’s new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with variable compression technology.

Automotive News was one of the companies that attended the event and they are reporting the new engine produces 268 hp (200 kW) and 288 lb-ft (390 Nm) of torque. This will reportedly enable the QX50 to accelerate from 0-60 mph faster than any of its four-cylinder competitors.

While the performance is impressive, the technology and design of the engine is what really sets it apart. As the publication explains, the engine is equipped with an electrically controlled actuator and a unique “elliptic device” called a multilink. These two components, along with some clever engineering, allow the engine to adjust its compression ratio from 8:1 to 14:1.

Thanks to variable compression technology, the engine manages to be both powerful and fuel-efficient. Infiniti hasn’t released detailed fuel economy figures but Nissan’s chief powertrain engineer, Shinichi Kiga, said the new QX50 will have a combined fuel economy rating that is 27 percent higher than the outing model which has a 3.7-liter V6 engine that develops 325 hp (242 kW) and 267 lb-ft (361 Nm) of torque.

The engine will be connected exclusively to a continuously variable transmission and it should allow the model to return around 26 mpg combined. Automotive News says the engine offered outstanding performance and refinement during test drives but noted the engine requires premium fuel.

Infiniti Fears QX30 Driver’s Airbag May Inadvertadly Deploy, Issues Recall 15
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Infiniti, Infiniti QX30, NHTSA, Recalls, Reports on 11 15th, 2017

Infiniti announced a recall involving certain units of the QX30 because the driver’s airbag could deploy randomly. Although no incidents related to the subject have been reported, the issue could cause injury to the driver and increase the risk of a crash.

“The combination of an electrostatic discharge to a broken steering column module clock spring, and an insufficient grounding to the steering column, might lead to an inadvertent deployment of the airbag“, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wrote in the description of the defect.

The recall affects 17,507 units of the 2017-2018 MY QX30 manufactured from August 10, 2015, to June 16, 2017. Owners of these vehicles will be contacted by Nissan starting with December 18. Subsequent to scheduling an appointment with authorized dealers, technicians will add a commutator ring to the steering column to assure proper grounding and fix the problem, free of charge.

The latest Infiniti recall follows a similar action taken by Mercedes-Benz last month, over an identical problem. The German car manufacturer recalled almost 500,000 vehicles, from the CLA to the E-Class, including certain AMG models and the GLA, which shares its platform and most mechanical parts with the QX30.
