Morgan Plus 8 50th Anniversary Edition Coming To Geneva 9

The Plus 8 is an iconic sports car built by British firm Morgan, and it’s making a comeback as a limited edition model.

Named Morgan Plus 8 50th Anniversary Special Edition, the car will be limited to just 50 examples, which will be sold through the brand’s dealership network at an undisclosed price.

Underpinned by a lightweight aluminum chassis, the Morgan Plus 8 50th Anniversary Special Edition “will be the last 50 Plus 8 vehicles Morgan builds with the acclaimed BMW 4.8-liter V8 engine”, the automaker said.

Tipping the scale at 1,100kg (2,425lbs), this is “one of the lightest V8 passenger cars in the world”, according to the firm, needing just 4.5 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100km/h (62mph), before tapping out at 250km/h (155mph).

Nothing else is known about it so far, although enthusiasts won’t have to wait that long for the reveail, as it will celebrate its world premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, which starts on March 6 for the press, and two days later for the public.

Morgan’s Electric EV3 Finally Going Into Production In 2018 22
Dec
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Electric Vehicles, Morgan, Morgan EV3, Reports on 12 22nd, 2017

Morgan is going to start producing the electric version of its popular 3 Wheeler, the EV3, in the third quarter of 2018 at their factory in Worcestershire, UK.

Mixing retro looks with modern technologies, the upcoming Morgan EV3 will ditch the 80hp V-twin engine of the normal 3 Wheeler for the sake of a 56hp electric motor and a 21kWh battery pack. The driving range is expected to be 120 miles on a full charge, Autocar reports.

First seen at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Morgan EV3 will tip the scales at less than 500kg (1,102lbs), despite the heavy electric powertrain and battery pack. This makes the EV3 even lighter than the petrol-powered 3 Wheeler, with Morgan using carbon composite body panels for the first time.

The small electric British three-wheeled sports car will offer a 0-62mph in less than 9 seconds and a top speed of over 90mph. These figures may sound underwhelming but judging by the very positive response to the similarly potent 3 Wheeler, Morgan’s first production EV will probably be just as exciting to drive.

Morgan has yet to announce official pricing, but it said that the EV3 will be priced at the same levels with the 3 Wheeler, which costs from £31,140 in the UK.

Bottoms Up: Morgan Partners With Friday Beer For A New Pilsner 10
Dec
Posted by Carscoops Staff in Morgan, Offbeat News on 12 10th, 2017

You surely have heard it before, but we won’t tire repeating it: drinking and driving don’t mix. That doesn’t mean that a motoring enthusiast can’t enjoy a beer at the end of a long day, though, once the driving’s done. And some might be inclined to check out these latest brews from Morgan.

The British producer of old-timey sports cars has partnered with the Friday Beer Company to come out with a line of brews. They’ve already done a series of Morgan ales, but now they’ve teamed up again for a lager.

The pilsner-style lager is called No.29 Pils, brewed in the same Worcestershire town of Malvern where Morgan is based, using its famously clean spring water. At 4.6 percent alcohol by volume, it’s offered alongside the three types of ale: the Morgan 3 Wheeler Dark Mild Ale, the Aero 8 Rye Ale, and the 4/4 Blonde Ale (fittingly bottled at 3, 4.8, and 4.4 percent ABV, respectively).

“We are delighted to be introducing a new range of pilsner style craft lager to the already successful range between Morgan and Friday Beer,” said Morgan’s managing director Steve Morris. “This is a great example of two local companies working together and we hope that many Morgan owners all around the world can enjoy a glass or two during the Christmas period.”

The brews with their delightfully (and suitably) old-fashioned labels and packaging are being offered for purchase online through the Beer Hunter website. A four-pack of pilsners or a three-pack of ales will set you back £18.00, and could make the perfect gift for the Morgan driver on your holiday shopping list.

Morgan Teases Aero GT, A Motorsport-Inspired Farewell To The Aero 8 4
Dec
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in Morgan, Morgan Videos, new cars, Reports, UK, video on 12 4th, 2017

The most extreme Morgan to date, the upcoming Aero GT, has been previewed with a series of teaser images.

Morgan Motor Company says it’s a “gloves-off” version of the Aero 8 which marks the end of the famous British sports car’s production.

The new race-inspired Morgan Aero GT will adopt the lessons learned from Morgan’s GT3 victories, featuring an all-new hand-worked body which is designed to reduce drag and increase downforce.

The bespoke new Aero GT will come with new wing top louvers, deeper side sills and a big rear diffuser. Each example will also be heavily customized according to each owner’s taste.

Power will come from the BMW-sourced 4.8-liter V8 with 367hp, paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. 0-62mph comes in 4.5 seconds, with the top speed set at 170mph. This will also be the final appearance of the naturally aspirated BMW V8 as the Bavarian company has stopped its production.

Morgan will build just eight and already sold-out examples of the Aero GT, which will also be the final eight Aero 8 models to come out of the company’s Pickersleigh Road factory in the UK.

“Unlike many, we are able to make truly special limited edition vehicles that really exercise the imagination of the designer and the ability of the craftsman”, said Jon Wells, Head of Design at Morgan Motor company.

“Every Morgan is built to an exacting specification and is bespoke to each customer, as their personality is displayed in every detail”, said Steve Morris, Managing Director of Morgan Motor Company. “A great deal of emotion is invested in every decision and this experience is only enhanced by the joy of then driving such powerful and unique vehicles. The Aero GT is the ultimate ensemble of this formula.”

Morgan Stupidly Pulls Out In Front Of Peugeot, Crash Ensues 17
Apr
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Accidents, Classics, Morgan, Offbeat News, PEUGEOT, Peugeot 206, video on 04 17th, 2017

What we have here is a Morgan hastily and imprudently pulling out of a junction; Peugeot 206 comes in hot, driver of the Peugeot hits brakes and horn at the same time, but to no avail.

While that Pug’s momentum may have had a lot to do with this accident, it’s possible that less honking and more steering could have made a difference in the end.

According to the description of the video, the speed limit on this particular patch of road is 50 mph (80 km/h) – though it’s really hard to tell if that 206 was doing more than 50. Let’s stick with innocent until proven guilty, shall we?

The person who caught the incident on camera states that the ‘Morgan tried to accelerate to get in front of the Peugeot. However the Peugeot was going down hill, and the Morgan was trying to speed up a hill, so the momentum was on neither of their sides.”

While we really wish the driver of the French hatchback hadn’t planted one of his hands on the horn under heavy braking, the person behind the wheel of the Morgan is clearly the one who’s at fault for this accident. He’s also lucky that 206 didn’t end up on top of him.
