Topless Mercedes SL Battles The Bomb Cyclone In Rhode Island 5
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Film, mercedes, Mercedes SL, Mercedes Videos, Offbeat News, video on 01 5th, 2018

The eastern coast of the United States is being hit by a “Bomb Cyclone” and it was brought extreme winter weather to a number of states in the region.

Cranston, Rhode Island is one of the areas that has been hit particularly hard so it’s surprising that one viewer of the local NBC affiliate filmed a Mercedes SL (R129) with its top down during the middle of the storm. The rear-wheel drive roadster obviously struggles on the snowy roads and we can see what appears to be smoke or steam billowing from underneath the hood a few seconds into the clip.

A number of commenters have been extremely critical of the driver’s decision to use the car in these conditions but a handful of other people have chimed in to claim they know the car’s owner. Several of these people said the SL’s roof is broken and this is the owner’s only vehicle.

While driving the SL probably isn’t the greatest or warmest decision, it appears the owner felt they had little choice but to use the car to go wherever they were heading.

Tuned BMW M4 And Mercedes SL63 With 750HP Each Go Head-To-Head 19
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in AMG, BMW, BMW M4, BMW Videos, Drag-Racing, Film, mercedes, Mercedes SL, Mercedes Videos, Unlimited 500, video on 12 19th, 2017

With 750 HP on each side, you’d think that this half-mile drag race between an F82 BMW M4 and a Mercedes SL63 AMG would come down to the wire, right?

As it turns out, no. In stock form, they have identical 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time, mostly because the M4’s weight advantage is offset by the SL63 having roughly 100 more horses under the hood.

Now, both cars put down 750 HP, the M4 thanks to a Stage 3+ KK-Performance tune, while the SL63 uses a WINDE Tuning mod. As it turns out, though, the difference between the two was bigger than expected.

The winner covered a 1/4 mile in 11.35 seconds at 215 km/h (133 mph), while the runner-up needed 12.15 seconds, doing just 200 km/h (124 mph). As they reached the finish line, that difference had risen to almost 1.5 seconds, with 19 km/h (12 mph) between them.

So, who do you think won this duel, the Bimmer or the Merc? To find out, just click on the video right after the jump.

RENNTech’s 615HP Mercedes SL55 Is As Good As They Got In 2004 [w/Video] 12
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in AMG, mercedes, Mercedes SL, Mercedes Videos, Renntech, reviews, tuning on 12 12th, 2017

Back in the early 2000’s, if you couldn’t afford an SLR, the next best thing was the SL55 AMG, a supercharged V8-powered roadster packing a considerable amount of grunt.

Straight out of the box, it was good for 500 PS (493 HP) and a very impressive 700 Nm (520 lb-ft) of torque, before the first facelift came and added a little extra muscle.

Of course, those figures pale in comparison to what you had if you paid tuner RENNTech $108,000, which is what former baseball player Ray Durham did back then. Yep, this exact model used to be his car.

The tuner added a big brake kit, upgraded the suspension, made the exterior look more aggressive and, of course, fiddled with the engine. This example features RENNTech’sStage 6 conversion, which is good for 615HP, or 575 WHP, way more than you get even in a brand new SL65 flagship.

So what did The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah think after driving this car? He found it very enjoyable (except for the slow gearbox), and even called it a great cruiser, although perhaps not ideal for twisty canyon roads due to its hot rod driving characteristics.

Buy This Entire AMG Black Series Collection In Florida 11
Posted by Carscoops Staff in AMG, auction, mercedes, Mercedes AMG, Mercedes Black Series, Mercedes C-Class, Mercedes C63 AMG, Mercedes CLK, Mercedes SL, Mercedes SLS AMG on 12 11th, 2017

AMG fans miss the Black Series. We know. We do too. But Mercedes doesn’t make them anymore. It may yet again, but in the meantime, prospective buyers have to look on the second-hand market.

We’ve brought you a few such examples that have come up for sale or auction, but nothing quite like this.

At its upcoming sale in Kissimmee next month, Mecum Auctions will sell off not one or two, but four AMG Black Series models – all as one lot.

Part of the sprawling Michael Fux collection, the lot includes a 2008 CLK63, 2009 SL65, 2012 C63, and 2014 SLS – all Black Series versions, and all in black (naturally). All that’s missing is the SLK55 that kicked off the series in 2006. But then, with “only” 390 horsepower, that was the least powerful of the five.

Like what you see? Mecum estimates the quartet will sell for between $850k and $1 million. But as unprecedented as this collection is, we could end up very surprised. And if you don’t like what you see, the Fux collection has plenty else on offer – including some other hardcore, limited-edition track machines like a 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS and 2011 GT2 RS, and a Ferrari F12 TdF and 458 Speciale Aperta.

These Classic Children’s Cars Are Sure To Delight The Kids On Your List 28
Posted by Carscoops Staff in ASTON MARTIN, auction, Classics, Corvette, Ferrari, Ferrari 250, Ferrari California, Ferrari Testarossa, Jaguar E-Type, Jaguar XK, Mercedes SL, porsche, Shelby on 11 28th, 2017

Looking for the perfect present for the special little someone on your holiday shopping list this season? We’ve got you covered.

Coming up for auction is an impressive array of children’s cars, each replicating a classic car, the opportunity to own for which we’d have seriously considered giving up a kidney (or limb) when we were kids.

Included on the docket are an Aston Martin DB5, Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, Shelby Cobra 289, Corvette Sting Ray, Porsche 936, Jaguar E-Type and XK120, and three Ferraris: a 250 Testa Rossa, 250 California, and 640 F1 car – all in miniature. We don’t have the full details on all of them, but the Testa Rossa and Sting Ray are of period vintage and pack electric motors.

Don’t let the size fool you, though: while they won’t cost you as much as the real thing, they’re still plenty valuable. RM Sotheby’s estimates they’ll each sell for between $10,000 and $80,000 (in the case of the TR, a similar one of which sold a few years ago for an astonishing $126,500).

Most are going up for auction in Arizona come mid-January, but the Testa Rossa and the ‘Vette are on the docket for New York on December 6. So if you’re intent on putting one under the tree, better pack your backs for the Big Apple… and bring your checkbook.

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series Gets New Set Of Rims Courtesy Of HRE 26
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in AMG, HRE, mercedes, Mercedes AMG, Mercedes Black Series, Mercedes SL, Wheels on 11 26th, 2017

Long before AMG became Mercedes’ official performance division, it had named a name for itself by tuning some of the German automaker’s models.

One of them was the SL65 AMG Black Series, the hottest version of the previous-gen range-topping model that came with a staggering 670 HP and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque courtesy of the tuned 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12.

That’s about 100 HP more than the menacing AMG GT R, and probably very close to the next Black Series model that was scooped on the Nurburgring recently. Naught to 62 mph (100 km/h) took just 3.9 seconds, and top speed was limited to ‘just’ 199mph (320km/h), which makes it just 0.3 seconds slower off the line than the Beast of the Green Hell.

Now, it appears that there’s nothing that you could do to a Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series to make it hotter, but HRE might be on to something with their new multi-spoke rims finished in polished copper.

Described as capable of offering the ultimate street-performance by combining the purposeful lightweight design of race wheels with “an unmatched level of sophisticated design”, the wheels are part of the P103 series. They cost at least $9,600 per set, come in different sizes from 19- to 21-inches, and can be finished in a variety of colors.

This particular set doesn’t look half bad on this black example, so we guess if any owner wants to change something on his/her Black Series, they might want to try them out for size.

Mercedes-Benz has completely transformed Maybach yet again.

From a stand-alone brand it revived in 1997 to compete with (VW's) Bentley and (BMW's) Rolls-Royce, Daimler has now turned Maybach into a high-end sub-brand, standing alongside AMG in transforming “ordinary” Benzes into even more desirable and expensive sets of wheels.
