As with every year, the Euro NCAP published the list with the safest new cars in their respective classes for 2017. The independent organization rates each model in four categories: Adult Occupant Safety, Child Occupant Safety, Pedestrian Safety and Safety Assist, with the three first being self-explanatory and the fourth assessing the active and passive systems that are available.

The European New Car Assessment Program says that its star ratings between different segments of models are not directly comparable. which leads us to their ‘Best In Class’ awards, showing which models have performed better than their direct competitors.

Euro NCAP has divided the car market into six segments: Executive, Large Off-Road, Small Off-Road, Supermini, Small MPV and Small Family Car. Let’s see then which new cars took the title of the safest model in their respective segments, and watch the relevant video that follows.

Executive: VW Arteon

Adult Occupant: 96% | Child Occupant: 85% | Pedestrian: 85% | Safety Assist: 82%

This Is How You Crash Test A Koenigsegg Regera 28

Even the smallest, most exotic car manufacturers have to put their supercars through the normal crash test procedures to ensure that they’re safe and compliant with the regulations.

However, and unlike the bigger mass-production manufacturers which can spare more than a few cars for the safety and homologation tests, Koenigsegg is using a single car for the task since they tend to be multi-million hand-made objects of speed and desire.

It’s cheaper for Koenigsegg to rebuilt the beater car after each test than to build another one this way. Apart from the classic crash tests from different angles, there are also the so-called abuse tests, where the car is driven over curbs and other torture-like situations.

The funny thing is however that Koenigsegg released the dubstep-filled video on its Instagram account to celebrate 1 million followers.

At least the dubstep background music makes the whole thing less painful to watch somehow!

THANK YOU FOR 1 MILLON FOLLOWERS! Thats SMASHING! 🔥

Kia Stinger Passes Euro NCAP Crash Tests With Flying Colors 16

Owners and potential customers of the Kia Stinger can rest easy knowing that it’s not only a very capable sports sedan, but one of the safest, too.

During recent Euro NCAP testing, the Stinger was awarded a five-star safety rating, performing particularly well in adult occupant safety with a 93 per cent rating. Additionally, it was awarded a safety assist score of 82 per cent when optioned with the full range of autonomous safety systems.

Even before the Stinger was unveiled at the start of this year, car enthusiasts were intrigued at the thought of the South Korean automaker going head to head with the German establishment.

In range-topping guise, the Stinger is powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 delivering 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. With all-wheel drive, the range-topping Stinger hits 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than five seconds and maxes out at 167 mph (269 km/h).

Prices for the entry-level Stinger start at $31,900 in the United States, which makes it roughly $11,000 cheaper than the four-cylinder BMW 430i Gran Coupe.

Fiat Punto Slapped With Zero Stars In Euro-NCAP’s Latest Safety Ratings 13

The Fiat Punto became the first model to receive a disappointing zero-star safety rating by Euro-NCAP.

The ageing Italian supermini has been on sale since 2005 and the new results reveal that it’s outclassed by every car tested in recent history, making it Euro NCAP’s first car ever to be awarded with zero stars.

The Fiat Punto managed to score two stars in adult and child occupant safety and pedestrian protection but the lack of driver assistance and crash avoidance systems brought its total score to zero.

“This is perhaps the strongest example of a manufacturer continuing to sell a product that is well past its best-before date, at the expense of the unsuspecting car buyer. We would urge consumers to check our website for the latest ratings and to choose cars with the most up-to-date five-star ratings, many examples of which we have seen in 2017”, Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen said.

The European New Car Assessment Programme updated the ratings of several recently facelifted models to allow consumers making a fair comparison to new cars. These included the Toyota Yaris, the Toyota Aygo, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max, the Opel Karl, the DS3 and the Fiat Punto.

With the exception of the Toyota Yaris which kept its five-star rating, most of the other models dropped to three stars in this year’s safety tests. The Toyota Aygo scored four stars with the optional safety equipment.

The safety organization also tested new models, awarding five stars to the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Stinger, the new BMW 6-Series and the Jaguar F-Pace. Three stars were awarded to the MG ZS SUV, the second-gen Dacia Duster and the Kia Stonic, which scores five stars when fitted with the optional safety equipment.
