As consumers have, for some time now, been flocking towards crossovers and SUVs, it’s inevitable that more of these vehicles end up on the used car market.

So, let’s say you’re looking for a 3- to 5-year old mid-sized SUV, which still has a lot of life left in it, do you know what to shortlist and what to avoid?

If not, then Consumer Reports’ owner satisfaction survey, put together using feedback from owners, should help you decide better, and Japanese automakers scored big here, bagging three spots in CR’s Top 5.

Toyota tops the list with the Highlander, which is followed by the 4Runner. Honda’s Pilot also made it into the Top 5, although it’s not all Japanese, as Jeep fans love the Wrangler in spite of its faults, as it’s a hoot to drive off-road, and most VW Touareg owners said they’d buy it again.

On the other hand, CR also lists three SUVs that owners were mostly dissatisfied with, and one of them comes from the FCA group – but you’ll have to watch the following video to find out more.

Honda’s popular Pilot seven-seater SUV is entering the MY2018 with a slight increase in price; now starting from $31,875, including destination and handling fees.

The three-row SUV remains pretty much unchanged compared with last year’s model, which already offers everything from a roomy cabin with clever practical solutions to a wide range of active safety systems and from a plush ride to a modern infotainment system with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Power is still provided by Honda’s 3.5-liter V6 with direct injection and 280hp. Cheaper models in the range get a six-speed automatic gearbox while the more expensive Touring and Elite versions come fitted with the nine-speed automatic unit.

Front- and all-wheel drive versions are on offer, with fuel economy rated at 20/27/23 mpg for the former and 19/26/22 mpg for the latter.

Honda’s Sensing suite bundles safety and driver-assistance systems together, including Collision Mitigation Braking system with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning.

Sales of the 2018 Honda Pilot have already started, with the base front-wheel drive LX model priced from $31,875 (including destination and handling fees) and the all-wheel drive version asking from $33,775.

U Spy The 2019 Honda Pilot Facelift In California 28
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in honda, Honda Pilot, Honda Scoops, Scoops, U Spy on 11 28th, 2017

The redesigned 2019 Honda Pilot has been spied by a CarScoops reader in Mojave, California.

While the third-generation model is only a couple of years old, it appears the company is preparing to give its three-row crossover a facelift to keep it competitive with newer rivals such as the Chevrolet Traverse.

Since the prototype is heavily camouflaged, styling changes are hard to spot. However, we can expect the usual updates including a revised front fascia with new headlights and possibly a modified grille that echoes the CR-V or Ridgeline. The crossover could also be equipped new taillights and an updated interior but we’ll likely have to wait a little bit longer to know for sure.

The third-generation Honda Pilot debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in 2015 and it features a 3.5-liter V6 engine which develops 280 hp (208 kW) and 262 lb-ft (354 Nm) of torque. Base models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, while Touring and Elite variants receive a nine-speed gearbox.

It’s possible the latter transmission could become standard when the facelifted model is introduced but nothing is official as of yet. However, if this does occur, we can a expect a minor improvement in fuel-efficiency as models with the nine-speed gearbox get an additional 1 mpg city and 1 mpg combined.

Thanks to CarScoops reader Tony for the pictures!
