Is The Mitsubishi Mirage America’s Worst New Car On Sale? 29

Small economy cars are almost never described as being fun but the Mitsubishi Mirage is probably one of the few new cars right now that don’t even know what fun means.

There’s a general blandness surrounding the small Mitsubishi while the obvious cost-cutting in places is really obvious and never lets you forget that this is one of the cheapest new cars in the market right now.

Of course these cars are used for commutes and nothing much more really and while the Mirage is more than capable of getting you safely to your destination, people who like cars will almost definitely prefer something a bit more interesting for their everyday travels.

Even the three-cylinder engine is laughably small and underpowered -by U.S. standards, mind you- measuring 1.2 liters in capacity and producing 78hp and 74lb-ft of torque. Opt for the CVT automatic transmission and then you’ll get the perfect car to make your petrolhead friends hate you eternally.

Want to know more about this fascinatingly cheap Mitsubishi? Let Doug DeMuro then give you a tour around the strongest contender for the title of USA’s worst new car right now.

If Mitsubishi Made A Mirage Out Of A Micra 11

After joining the Renault-Nissan Alliance, Mitsubishi is looking to renew its lineup, and besides a new generation Outlander, they’re also interested in a more modern supermini.

Source claim that this job has fallen onto the Mirage, which will be replaced by an entirely new generation within the next couple of years.

It has been reported that it will share the same architecture as the next Renault Clio and Nissan Micra, sporting a range of three- and four-cylinder engines, some of which will be familiar, as they will be divided between the Dacia and Smart brands as well.

This should help Mitsubishi’s next supermini become a more viable challenger to the likes of the Peugeot 208, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, and others.

And while we know what its foundation stone will be, not much has been reported about its design – yet. However, Photoshop artist Kleber Silva came up with a very cost- and time-effective idea, both for…himself and Mitsubishi: re-branding the current Nissan Micra into a Mirage with a face borrowed from the latest Outlander.

We’re hoping Mitsubishi will do more than that when time comes to present its Mirage replacement.

Report Claims Tesla Model S Is Less Eco-Friendly Than The Mitsubishi Mirage 8

The Tesla Model S is often heralded as the best electric vehicle on the market but a new report suggests it might not actually be that environmentally friendly.

As Auto Express reports, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology compared the lifecycle CO2 emissions of several different vehicles including a BMW 7-Series, a Mitsubishi Mirage, and a Tesla Model S. The results are a tad surprising as the report claims the Mirage is actually the most eco-friendly of the group as the car emits 192 grams of CO2 for every kilometer it is driven. The Model S wasn’t far behind at 226 g/km, while the 7-Series registered 385 g/km.

While you’re probably thinking how can an electric vehicle produce CO2 emissions, MIT Tranick Lab examined multiple factors including how much emissions were created in the vehicle’s production and how much emissions would be made when the vehicle was scrapped. They also examined how much CO2 would be produced as a result of powering the vehicle whether it used gasoline or electricity generated by power plants.

The researchers appeared to have made several assumptions but they stress they weren’t trying to shine a negative light on electric vehicles. As MIT’s Jessika Trancik explained, “Both hybrids and electric vehicles are better than conventional cars.”

New Mitsubishi Mirage Reportedly Getting Next-Gen Renault Clio Platform 6
Nov
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Electric Vehicles, Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Mirage, Reports on 11 6th, 2017

Mitsubishi are looking to challenge the likes of the Opel Corsa and Ford Fiesta with their very own supermini, which will serve as a replacement for the current Mirage.

It remains unknown at this point whether it will keep its moniker, but it will be offered across the European market, based on the same mechanicals as the next generation Renault Clio and Nissan Micra, AutoExpress reports.

“Designing and building a bespoke platform is expensive, and the margins in the small car sector are smaller. So, are we looking to use Renault and Nissan platforms in that segment [B]? The answer is yes”, said the Japanese brand’s corporate vice president and product planning chief, Vincent Cobee, who joined Mitsubishi last year, when Nissan bought a controlling stake.

The new Mitsubishi Mirage is expected to use small three- and four-cylinder engines, some of which will be shared with the Dacia brand, as well as the Smart ForTwo and ForFour. Moreover, the subcompact car is also believed to gain a fully electric version in the future, as it plays an important role in helping the automaker achieve their emissions regulations.
