Skoda Makes A Karoq Out Of Cardboard (You Know, For The Kids) 14

Ever wonder what a Skoda Karoq would look like if it were made out of cardboard instead of steel? Yeah, us neither. But Skoda went ahead and built one anyway.

Called the Kid Karoq, the full-size replica of the Czech crossover took some 600 man-hours of work over the course of 10 weeks to build.

While the shape was made out of plain old cardboard, not everything on board was. The craftsmen at British design studio Lazerian fitted the Kid Karoq with a video game console behind the wheel, an iPad in the dashboard, a set of wireless speakers, and a multicolored disco ball.

It also has onboard wifi, a film projector, bean bags, and a “secret den” under the hood with holes for peering out undetected. It even has a slide leading into a pool filled with 1,500 more balls – the exact number, apparently, that you could fit in the cargo compartment of the actual Karoq, whose arrival in UK showrooms the cardboard version was built to celebrate.

The project stems from a survey of a thousand kids between the ages of 6 and 11, nearly three quarters of which said they’d built their own cars out of cardboard, too.

Is The Skoda Karoq The Compact SUV You Were Looking For? 13
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Film, reviews, Skoda, Skoda Karoq, Skoda Videos, video on 01 13th, 2018

Consumers flock to crossovers and SUVs and, as a result, automakers launch one model after another in order to satisfy the demand. Skoda’s proposal in the compact segment is the recently launched Karoq, which replaces the Yeti.

The Karoq slots under the Kodiaq and shares its platform with the Seat Ateca, but it is far more than a reshaped Spanish SUV, as the latest video review points out.

It’s a well equipped vehicle, with an interior that resembles that of its larger sibling, lots of storage spaces, cup holders, and places to store your mobile devices. Things aren’t that cramped either on the rear bench, and its boot has a decent size for a car in the compact segment.

The Karoq is front-wheel drive, but Skoda offers the option of an all-wheel drive system on certain models. Customers can currently choose between four engines: two petrols, with 115PS (113hp) and 150PS (148hp), and two diesels, with the same amount of power, but more torque, which can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

A more powerful 2.0-liter TDI with 190PS (187hp) will be offered later this year, and a performance-oriented vRS variant might be on the cards.

Pricing start from €24,290 ($29,122) in Germany, which makes it €3,800 ($4,556) more expensive than the base Nissan Qashqai, but opting for the range-topper, equipped with all optional extras, sees the price skyrocket to €45,000 ($53,951).

All things considered, should you put the Skoda Karoq in your list if you’re out shopping for a compact SUV? Scroll down and watch the video to find out.

Skoda Rally Car Gives Taxi Passengers More Than They Bargained For 25

We expect taxis to be clean and comfortable. We expect the drivers to be punctual and professional. We don’t expect a lot of excitement from the ride, but that’s just what a handful of passengers in Prague got recently.

Skoda dispatched five-time Czeck Rally Champion (and onetime European champ) Jan Kopecký in one of its Fabia R5 rally cars to pick up passengers at taxi stands around the city and take them for what will likely be the ride of their lives.

“Driving a ŠKODA FABIA R5 through the city of Prague really was an unique experience,” said Kopecký. “Luckily nobody got stomach problems. Nevertheless I was well prepared having sickness bags in ŠKODA colours on board,” he laughed.

In lieu of cab fare, each of the 23 passengers was tasked with reading Kopecký the pace notes and operating the wipers so they could experience what it’s like to be a rally co-driver.

It was a fitting year-end celebration for the Czech manufacturer that won both the national championship and the WRC2 category for the third time running, making the Fabia R5 the undisputed king of its class.

Skoda Debuts New Vehicle Lineup For Emergency Services [w/Video] 14

Skoda stays true to their legacy by continuing to support the Czech Republic’s emergency services with an entirely new vehicle lineup.

Leading the pack is the Kodiaq Fire & Rescue, a special version of the SUV dressed in a distinctive livery and fitted emergency lights. This car is portrayed as a versatile vehicle thanks to its multi-terrain capabilities, and is joined by an ambulance variant.

Also available is the range-topping version of the Superb, which adds the 280 suffix. The most powerful production Skoda ever built is an undercover cop car here, using its 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine, shared with the Seat Leon Cupra, to fight crime.

It has 280PS (276hp) which are channeled to the standard four-wheel drive system through a DSG automatic transmission, and needs 5.8sec to reach 100km/h (62mph) from a standstill.

Skoda has man’s best friend covered too, with a special version of the Superb aimed at K9 units, dubbed the Superb Estate Police Dog Vehicle. It has two fiber glass-made air conditioned kennels, said to be approved by the RSPCA and DEFRA, plus a 100-amp, 3-tone siren.

Finally, the Octavia Scout has been turned into an ambulance that’s said to be “ideal for remote locations”, thanks to its four-wheel drive capabilities and increased ground clearance. It’s also capable of carrying an impressive 645kg (1,422lbs) of specialized equipment.

Skoda Octavia vRS Estate Makes Sure Your School Runs Are Anything But Dull 18

When it comes to compact family cars, the Skoda Octavia has always been somewhat of a smart choice within the segment, being larger than its main competitors, well built and competitively priced.

The Estate version of the Octavia can be had in the range-topping vRS trim, powered by either a petrol or a diesel engine, married to a six-speed manual or a DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

CarBuyer went out and tested the facelifted Octavia vRS, focusing on some of its strong points, such as the rear legroom and boot space, and the new infotainment screen that’s simple to use. The reviewer appreciated the special ‘vRS’ mode, which changes the throttle response, steering, and exhaust note, and the optional dynamic chassis control system that allows users to firm up the suspension for a sporty drive.

On the other hand, the Octavia vRS does have some flaws: it’s not that good to use around town with the DSG gearbox and there’s some noise coming into the cabin at certain points that could become quite annoying. Moreover, the interior, as good as it may be, has black trim everywhere, and apart from the sport seats, you don’t feel like you’re sitting in a performance model.

But is this enough to make you consider a different ride, such as the Ford Focus ST Estate? Find out the verdict in the video that follows.

What’s Skoda Cooking With This Kodiaq Prototype? 17

The Skoda Kodiaq is already available in various markets, so spotting a prototype of the 7-seater SUV testing on the Nurburgring raises some questions.

What we have here cannot be answered with certainty by anyone outside the company, but we think that we’re likely looking at a new version.

One scenario calls for the rumored range-topping vRS being put to the test, and the black bumpers of the prototype, along with the basic halogen headlights, might be there to trick bystanders into thinking they’re looking at a entry-level Kodiaq – which, come to think of it, is another possibility.

Anyway, if this is indeed the Kodiaq vRS, then it will benefit from a number of improvements over lesser variants, including a more aggressive body kit, a tweaked chassis and improved brakes, while power could come from the 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel of the European VW Tiguan.

Another explanation is that this prototype is a test bed for a hybrid powertrain – but it’s all speculation, so we’ll have to wait a little bit longer until we can find out more about what Skoda has in store for its SUV.

Can A Skoda Superb Really Hold Its Own Against A BMW M760Li? 14

The Skoda Superb and BMW 7 Series are both fairly large European sedans, manufactured by German auto groups.

That’s about where the similarities end, though – especially when the Bimmer in question is the top-of-the-line M760Li.

The very pinnacle of BMW’s sedan lineup, the M760Li is the closest thing we’ve seen yet to a full-on M7, packing a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 that sends over 600 horsepower to all four wheels.

The Superb 280 seen here is also the performance version of Skoda’s flagship sedan, albeit on a different plane entirely. Its engine is less than a third the size of the Bimmer’s, with a third the cylinders, half the turbochargers, and less than half the output.

It’s also considerably less expensive than the BMW, but the big question is how the Skoda measures up. And that’s the question which the fellas at CarWow have set out to answer in this latest clip. You’re gonna have to watch for yourself to see what they found, though, so set aside six minutes and enjoy this improbable face-off.
