Upcoming VW I.D Cross Rendered In Production Guise 8

We’re still a couple of years away from experiencing the full effect of VW’s all-electric offensive upon the automotive landscape, which will definitely include the I.D Cross.

In case you can’t tell from its name, it’s an all-electric crossover, previewed last year at the Shanghai Auto Show by the I.D Crozz Concept.

The I.D Crozz was powered by a pair of electric motors, together offering 302 HP (306 PS). Add the 83 kWh battery to the mix and according to VW, you would be doing 62 mph (100 km/h) in just under 6 seconds, with a total range of 311 miles (500 km).

The production version, which has already been penciled in as the German automaker’s second I.D model following next year’s 5-door hatchback, probably won’t be fully autonomous, unlike the concept, which had pop-up laser scanners embedded in the glass roof.

Still, if it ends up looking as sporty as this render from Kleber Silva, we reckon most people will be on-board. While the rear end design could use some work, the rest of the car looks pretty well proportioned, if you like this type of body style that is.

VW Previews Its 2018 Product Plans With A Movie Trailer 4

If VW’s agenda for 2018 was turned into a movie script, it would probably get directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

What we mean by that is we can expect a mixture of twists and turns regarding multiple segments, from quick city cars to crossovers, to all-electric race cars.

The first major bit of news comes from the SUV segment, where the all-new 3rd-generation Touareg will make its world premiere this spring, at the Beijing Auto Show in April. The new Touareg is said to borrow heavily from the T-Prime Concept GTE, so it should look more dynamic than its predecessor.

What will follow will be a rather busy couple of months where we’ll see the new Jetta and T-Cross roll out, followed by a new I.D model and as well as an all-electric race car aimed at tackling the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event in Colorado.

VW Trademarks ‘I.D. Cruiser’ And ‘I.D. Freeler’ Names For Its Upcoming EVs 30

It appears Volkswagen’s I.D. family of models is primed for an expansion, with the German manufacturer recently trademarking two additional names with the World Intellectual Property Organization.

According to Auto Guide, VW has filed trademark applications for both ‘I.D. Cruiser’ and ‘I.D. Freeler’ but at this early stage, it is not known what type of vehicles will adopt these names. Given the demand for crossovers and SUVs, it wouldn’t surprise us if at least one of the new trademarks will be used by a new crossover – but that’s just a guess.

This report comes roughly three months after it was revealed that VW had also filed to trademark the ‘I.D. Streetmate’ moniker.

As it stands, the German automaker has introduced three I.D. concepts in the form of the I.D. hatchback, I.D. Crozz SUV and the I.D. Buzz minivan. All three are set to spawn all-electric production vehicles and will form an important part of the brand’s post-dieselgate revival.

VW Is Going After Uber With New Ride Sharing Electric Minibus 4

Posted by Michael Karkafiris in concepts, Electric Vehicles, MOIA, Uber, VW, VW Concepts on 12 4th, 2017

VW Group’s MOIA mobility startup has revealed a six-seater electric minibus concept specifically made for ride pooling.

The new concept was presented at the 2017 TechCrunch in Berlin just one year after its inception, featuring standalone seats with plenty of legroom and things like dimmable reading lights, USB ports and of course WiFi for the passengers.

Luggage can be stored next to the driver while the automated door and optimized handlebar make getting in and out of the car easier. No technical details were revealed, apart from a driving range of 300km (186 miles) and the ability to recharge up to 80 percent of its battery in 30 minutes.

“The car represents total comfort and is a crucial piece of our consistent service experience. We developed it using our co-creation process, which involved multiple rounds of potential users of various age groups testing cars and providing feedback. Many of the ideas from this process went directly into the development of the car. We’re also working on other future versions as well,” says Robert Henrich, MOIA COO.

MOIA’s entire “ecosystem” is scheduled to launch in Hamburg, Germany at the end of 2018, including the new electric minibus. The goal is to replace 1 million cars on European and U.S. cities by 2025. The first fleet of vehicles in Hamburg will start out with 200 cars and scale up to 1,000 in the coming years.

“In 2018, we’ll be ready to launch our ride pooling concept internationally and take the first steps toward our goal of reducing the number of cars in major cities by one million in Europe and the USA by 2025,” says Ole Harms, MOIA CEO.

The new ride-pooling service will work through a mobile application, similar to what other services are doing –including Uber. The app will tell you which cars are available and how much the ride will cost before you book a trip. MOIA will group passengers with similar destinations together through a special algorithm, in order to increase the capacity of each car and avoid detours.

VW I.D. Crozz Concept Makes U.S. Debut Before 2020 Launch 29

VW has confirmed that the I.D. Crozz Concept will spawn a production model to be sold in the United States in 2020.

Set to be shown to attendees at the LA Auto Show alongside the I.D. Buzz and original I.D. hatchback concept, the Crozz will play an important role in kick starting the German carmaker’s EV revolution in the United States.

VW first unveiled the I.D. Crozz Concept at April’s Shanghai Auto Show and then updated it for the Frankfurt Auto Show a couple of months ago. In concept guise, it uses a pair of electric motors, one on each axle, to deliver a combined 302 hp. When mated to an 83 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, this allows the I.D. Crozz to travel roughly 300 miles on a single charge.

When it reaches production, VW will equip the I.D. Crozz with a quick-charging function that will top up the battery to 80 per cent of its capacity in 30 minutes through a 150 kWh DC charger.

Elsewhere, the concept includes an advanced autonomous driving system which VW intends on deploying to production vehicles in 2025.

The system consists of four laser scanners that pop up from the roof, side area view cameras, a front camera, and ultrasonic and radar sensors. It can be activated through a simple voice control system or by pressing on the VW logo on the steering wheel for three seconds.

VW has previously confirmed that the I.D. Buzz will also be sold in the United States but hasn’t said if the hatchback will make it stateside.

Volkswagen has unveiled the new Tiguan Accessories concept at the Wags, Wheels and Waffles charity event in California.

Since the event is focused on raising funds to help find homes for rescued animals, the Tiguan Accessories concept is an pet-friendly crossover which is based on the seven-seat Tiguan SEL Premium.

Starting with the exterior, the concept has been equipped with 19-inch Victoria Falls wheels which have a custom anthracite gray finish. The crossover also features an Urban Loader cargo box which can hold up to 17.7 cubic feet (501.2 liters) of luggage. Rounding out the exterior changes are aluminum side steps and side window deflectors.

Volkswagen didn’t release interior photos but the company said the concept has all-season floor mats, custom seat covers, and a Kurgo Tru-Fit dog car harness. There’s also a heavy-duty trunk liner and a WeatherTech PetSTEP ramp. Last but not least, the model has a universal tablet mount in the second row that can be used to hold a variety of tablets.

The concept is powered by a 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp (137 kW) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
