Lexus Streches Out To Three-Row Seekers With RX 350L 30

Not to deify the automaker, but to paraphrase the good book: Lexus giveth, and Lexus taketh away. Only in this case we mean rows of seats in its SUVs.

At the LA Auto Show this week, Toyota’s luxury brand revealed a new version of its hot-selling RX that’s been stretched by 4.3 inches to accommodate an extra row of seating.

Unveiled as the RX 350L, the extended crossover comes powered by a 3.5-liter V6. Buyers will also be able to opt for the hybrid RX 450hL that throws in a pair of electric motors.

At the same time, Lexus also revealed a version of the top-of-the-line LX570 that goes in the opposite direction by ditching the third row of seating to the benefit of cargo space. All of which goes to show that while some customers expect their sport-utes (or crossovers) to be able to accommodate all their friends and family, others do not.

2018 Lexus RXL Gives RX Owners The Third Row They’ve Been Yearning For 29

Lexus has pulled the wraps off their new RX L, a three-row version of their popular luxury SUV that can hold up to seven passengers.

The addition of the third row was made possible by extending the rear of the body by 4.3 inches (110mm) with Lexus also using a steeper tailgate window angle in order to ensure good headroom for third-row passengers.

As standard, the 2018 Lexus RX L will come with seven seats and a 40/20/40 split bench-type second row seat. The optional six-seat setup comes with second-row captain’s chairs that allow for easier access to the third row.

Standard features include a power-folding third-row bench, power tailgate and leather upholstery for the first and second rows. A tri-zone climate system gives third-row passengers separate heating and air-conditioning vents.

The longer Lexus RX L is available in petrol RX 350L form, powered by a 290hp 3.5-liter V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and in the hybrid and AWD RX 450hL version, which pairs the 3.5-liter V6 with two electric motors for a combined 308hp. Petrol models are available with both front- and all-wheel drive.

Base models come with an eight-inch infotainment display but choose the Navigation package and then you get the 12.3-inch high-resolution system along with a 12-speaker premium audio system. Audiophiles will also get the option to choose the available 835-watt, 15-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround System.

The 2018 Lexus RX L is expected to hit the dealerships nationwide late this year, with a starting MSRP of $47,670 for the FWD model and $49,070 for the AWD one.

RX Sport Joins Lexus’ European Family 20

While Lexus is getting ready to unveil a three-row RX during the 2017 LA Auto Show, the brand has expanded the model’s lineup in Europe with a new Sport version.

Available with all available powertrains in the range, including the petrol-electric hybrid RX 450h, turbo’d 2.0-liter RX 300, and V6 RX 350, the RX Sport follows hot on the heels of similar Sport versions of its CT, IS, and NX siblings.

Helping it stand out are a series of exterior elements that get a black finish, including the grille, with horizontal bars framed in chrome and flanked by fog lamps with black surrounds.

Then there are the black side mirror casings and rear diffuser, and 20-inch alloy wheels that are also finished in black.

The Lexus RX Sport is based on the mid-Executive grade, and it’s equipped with features such as automatic high beam, 9- or 12-speaker premium audio system from Pioneer, 8- or 12.3-inch Lexus Media Display, fabric or leather upholstery, plus a lot more.

Lexus will open the order books for this version of the RX in February 2018, with pricing to be announced close to that date.

New Lexus RXL Three-Row SUV Confirmed For LA Auto Show 15
Nov
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in featured, LA Auto Show, LEXUS, Lexus RX, new cars, Reports on 11 15th, 2017

Lexus has officially confirmed the debut of the new, three-row version of the RX SUV at the LA Auto Show.

The new addition in the RX range will reportedly feature the same wheelbase with the normal models but with an extended rear end to make room for the third row of seats.

What this means is probably the room for the third-row passengers is most likely to be a bit limited for adults but the added practicality will be more than welcome.

The new Lexus RXL will be offered in both petrol and hybrid versions, meaning a RX 350L powered by a 295hp 3.5-liter V6 and an RX 450hL using the familiar 308hp hybrid powertrain.

Lexus will reveal the petrol version of the new RXL first at the LA Auto Show on November 29, telling us that the new model “will retain its stylish figure while also providing more flexibility for passengers”.
