2019 Lexus LS Launches In The U.S. Priced Cheaper Than Old Model 15

Lexus is launching the new LS luxury sedan in the US market with an entry price that’s actually cheaper than its predecessor.

The new Lexus LS starts from $75,995, including a $995 destination and handling fee, making it $3,820 cheaper than the outgoing long-wheelbase model. The hybrid LS 500h has a starting price of $80,505.

The launch of the company’s new flagship sedan will be accompanied by a new commercial during the 2018 Super Bowl next month.

“The 2018 LS is one of the most important launches in our brand’s history, so it makes sense for us to use a stage like the Super Bowl to showcase it to our customers. The LS not only offers unsurpassed performance, style and luxury, its competitive pricing makes it a great value as well,” said Lexus Group Vice President and Division General Manager, Jeff Bracken.

Based on the company’s latest GA-L platform, the new Lexus LS is offered with an all-new twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 416hp and 442lb-ft of torque, 30hp and 75lb-ft more than its naturally aspirated V8 predecessor.

The hybrid LS500h uses the same Multistage Hybrid System that debuted in the LC500h Coupe, combining a 3.5-liter V6 that runs on the Atkinson cycle with two electric motors for a total of 354hp.

Every new Lexus LS model comes loaded with the Safety System+ as standard. This includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Intelligent High Beam headlamps, Lane Departure Alert and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Lane Keep Assist. Customers can opt for the Lexus Safety System+ A that adds Pedestrian Alert, Active Steering Assist, Front Cross Traffic Alert, Road Sign Assist, Lane Departure Alert with road edge detection and the semi-autonomous Lexus CoDrive which combines Lane Trace Assist and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

Toyota To Showcase Autonomous Research Prototype 3.0 At CES 5

Toyota Research Institute is bringing its next-generation autonomous research prototype car, simply called Platform 3.0, at CES next week in Las Vegas.

Based upon a previous-gen Lexus LS 600hL, the autonomous research vehicle Platform 3.0 features a long-range LIDAR with a 200-meter (656ft) perception, courtesy of four high-resolution scanning heads, covering the car’s complete perimeter and making it one of the most perceptive autonomous test cars on the road.

Our team has once again rapidly advanced our automated vehicle research capabilities,” said Dr. Gill Pratt, TRI CEO and Toyota Motor Corporation Fellow. “To elevate our test platform to a new level, we tapped Toyota’s design and engineering expertise to create an all-new test platform that has the potential to be a benchmark in function and style.”

In addition, shorter-range LIDAR sensors are mounted low on all four sides of the prototype, detecting low-level and smaller objects near the car like children and debris. Toyota’s R&D engineers worked with CALTY Design Research to make the sensors and cameras as compact and concealed as possible at this stage.

Together, they created a new roof panel that’s both weather- and temperature-proofed. It’s also cleverly packaged, using the available space in the sunroof compartment to make it shorter.

“Automotive designers’ roles have been pivoting toward thinking deeper and greater on how to design and apply automated driving technology for drivers and passengers,” said Scott Roller, Senior Lead Designer at CALTY Design Research who worked on the project. “It’s exciting to integrate the components in harmony with the car’s design.”

Toyota will
start producing Platform 3.0 test vehicles this spring at their Prototype Development Center at their North America HQ in Michigan.

2018 Lexus LS Is A Worthy Rival To The German Establishment 17
Dec

While the all-new Lexus LS won’t offer you as many engine options as its rivals from Mercedes, BMW and Audi, what you do get is a no-nonsense luxury car that’s extremely comfortable to sit in.

According to Carwow’s review of the LS 500h, the new limo isn’t quite as sharp on the road as the 7-Series or the A8, and its air suspension doesn’t deal with bumps as well as the one you get in the S-Class, but overall, it does a solid job of keeping you comfortable. That actually goes double if you’re sitting in the back, where you can stretch out almost completely and choose between a great number of massaging functions.

The interior is top notch, too, as Lexus made sure the LS would be on par with its rivals when it comes to build quality.

As for straight line performance, the 2018 LS is not a slow car, by any stretch of the imagination, since the hybrid version sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. Sure, you’ll find plenty of faster options out there if you go for one of its German rivals, but we doubt this is a priority in a luxury saloon anyway.

New Lexus LS 500h Starts At £72,595 In The UK 12

Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in LEXUS, Lexus LS, new cars, prices, UK on 12 12th, 2017

The 2018 Lexus LS is ready to take on the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Audi A8 in the United Kingdom, where it is available in four grades.

Priced from £72,595 ($97,067) is the base LS 500h, which may be basic on paper, but it’s loaded with equipment.

The list includes LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, 12.3-inch display, dual-zone climate control with air quality control, 360-degree camera system, and electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation and heating.

Upgrading to the LS 500h Luxury lands you a four-zone climate control, Mark Levinson sound system, semi-aniline leather, and even more settings for the electrically adjustable front seats, all from £79,995 ($106,961), whereas the AWD model carries a £2,600 ($3,476) premium.

Sitting above the Luxury is the F Sport, with numerous exterior additions, 3-spoke steering wheel and shift selector in perforated leather, smooth leather-wrapped seats, and several technical upgrades, which round up to a starting price of £79,995 ($106,961).

The range-topping trim is the LS 500h Premier AWD, which can be had from £97,995 ($131,029), and adds rear-seat entertainment system, heated rear seats with massage function and electric adjustment, and a suite of active safety and driver assistance system that comes with the Lexus Safety System+ A.

Customers can already make a deposit for the new Lexus LS in the UK, and should expect their car to arrive early next year.

New Lexus LS 600h Is Jam-Packed With Driving Assistance Systems 11
Nov

If you’re building a luxury car to compete with the likes of the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8, you best fit it with the latest in active safety technology, or risk falling behind.

Lexus knew this all too well while planning their all-new LS saloon, and the end product seems to be pretty future-proof, especially on Japanese roads where you can test out systems like automatic lane-change.

As Carwow’s Mat Watson demonstrates here, the LS is quite good at keeping you and others around you safe, during low speed maneuvers as well as in regular driving scenarios, where the driving assistance systems can take over.

Watson does point out that while the car is able to execute the lane-changing maneuvers safely, the system doesn’t look quite bullet proof. Then again, it’s not like there are any fully autonomous cars out there in the first place.

Another issue he experienced was with the Driver Emergency Stop Assist, a system that is supposed to bring the car to a halt safely if it senses that the driver is incapacitated in any way. Unfortunately, in this instance, the system disengaged before the car came to a complete stop.

Consumer Reports Checks Out The New Lexus LS 4

With a $75,000+ starting price, the 2018 Lexus LS needs to be pretty darn good to steal customers away from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi.

It has a lot going for it starting with the design that brings a bold front end, a coupe-like silhouette, and a sexy rear on the outside, while its interior is able to compete with the best in class, in terms of luxury, and build quality, ConsumerReports said during their short review of the flagship saloon.

Passengers won’t struggle with the rear legroom, but headroom could be a problem for taller people, and since we’re covering the negatives, it’s good to mention that its track pad-based infotainment system can be frustrating to use, especially on the move, as it has many functions buried inside.

The test car came in the LS 500 specification, which means that it’s powered by a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, rated at 415hp and 442lb-ft (600Nm) of torque. This version of the car is very agile on straights, needing just 4.5sec to cover the 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in RWD form, and it feels nimble through corners as well.

The new 10-speed automatic transmission, which is shared with the LC 500, is very smooth, but it can take time to get used to its electronic shifter.

Lexus offers a plethora of safety gear as standard, and even more as optional extras, including the world’s first Intuitive Pedestrian Detection, which makes the LS 500 one of the safest and cleverest cars in the segment.
