F1-Inspired Renault Clio R.S. 18 Arrives With A Mean Stance 11

Renaultsport customers with a passion for motorsport now have a limited edition Clio RS that they’ll soon be able to order, in all markets except for Japan.

Named after the Renaultsport F1 Team’s 2018 challenger, the Clio R.S. 18 sports the black and yellow livery of the F1 cars, and gets grey decals, special badging on the front doors, black Renault and R.S. logos, and a deep black finish for the rear diffuser.

Open the door of the new Renault Clio R.S. 18 and you will be greeted by several updates, such as the numbered R.S.-branded door sill, Alcantara and leather trimmed steering wheel, carbon fiber-effect air vent surrounds, and special Renaultsport carpet mats.

Building upon the Clio RS 220 EDC Trophy, the limited edition model benefits from the same 220PS (217hp) and 280Nm (207lb-ft) of torque 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, that works together with an EDC dual-clutch transmission.

However, it also has additional technical updates such as the front dampers with hydraulic compression stops, sharper and more direct steering, and an Akrapovic exhaust for a deeper sound.

New Renault Megane RS Delivers 5.8-Sec 0-62 Time From €37,600 9

Renault lifted the veil off its new Megane RS at the Frankfurt Motor Show a few months ago, and now it’s followed up with full specifications – including pricing and availability.

€37,600 will be enough to put European hot-hatch enthusiasts behind the wheel, with their hand on the manual gear shifter. Opt for the dual-clutch version and you’ll be looking at €39,400.

Those base prices are for the Sport chassis. Add the Cup Pack with the stiffer suspension, limited slip differential, and red Brembo brake calipers and you’re looking at another €1,500.

That’s just the start of the options list, though: other essentials include 19-inch alloys (€1,000), Alcantara trim (€1,500), and special yellow or orange paint (€1,600). An array of electronic goodies include Bose audio (€600), RS Monitor (€250) or RS Monitor Expert system (€450), head-up display (€400).

However you spec it, the new Megane RS packs a 1.8-liter turbo four rated at 280 horsepower and four-wheel steering (a segment first) in a five-door package, delivering a 0-62 time of 5.8 seconds – and a potentially devastating Nürburgring lap time that could put the FWD record back in the French automaker’s hands.

Renault will begin deliveries in February for the DCT version and in the spring for the manual.

Renault’s RS18 F1 Car Should Look This Cool 3

Remember what we said about the shame of Renault ditching the Lotus/JPS livery? Yeah, we take it back. This looks cooler.

It’s Sean Bull‘s latest project, previewing what the Anglo-French team’s upcoming RS18 could – and probably should – look like. And we’re smitten.

The design, as you can see, adopts Renault‘s signature yellow and black color scheme, but mattes out the black, and blings out the yellow to a nice deep (and shiny) gold – not unlike the approach rival Peugeot has taken with some of its concepts and hot hatches.

The form also predicts the shape next year’s F1 cars could take, complete with the halo cockpit protection device. With or without it, the matte black and gold has us forgetting all about whatever Lotus had cooking for those few years when the team raced under its banner.

Renault Demonstrates All Features Of The New Megane RS In Official Film 3

Renault is placing the new generation Megane RS under the microscope a couple of months after it debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The official film covers all aspects of the new French hot hatch, from its exterior design, which is described as “a beast about to devour the road”, to its cabin that’s adorned with carbon fiber trim and Alcantara, among others.

Renault’s challenger to the likes of the new Honda Civic Type R promises improved traction at any speed thanks to the new motorsport-inspired suspension, combined with the 4Control four-wheel steering. The automaker wanted to enhance the sportiness of the new Megane RS by offering a ‘Race’ driving mode aimed at drivers that use the car on the track.

Even the 1.8-liter turbocharged engine is brand new, as it comes from the Alpine A110. It delivers 280PS (276hp) and 390Nm (288lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels. Customers will have to choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a first for the French hot hatch, which can also be had with one of the two chassis settings, Sport or Cup.

Last, but definitely not least, Renault will attempt to steal the Nurburgring lap record for FWD production cars from the new Honda Civic Type R. To accomplish that, their range-topping Megane needs to complete the 20.7km (12.9-mile) long run in less than 7min and 43.8sec.
