Mercedes To Drop The CLS 63 To Make Room For The AMG GT 4 11
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in mercedes, Mercedes CLS, Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes GLE, Reports on 12 11th, 2017

Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers recently confirmed the CLS 53 will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show and the executive has revealed new details about the upcoming model.

Speaking to Automotive News, Moers said the car will go on sale in the United States by the end of next year and it will have a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that has an output in the “400s.” That’s a little vague but the publication believes it will be rated at around 430 hp (320 kW).

Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends as Moers confirmed there will no longer be a CLS 63. Instead, the model has been ditched to make room for the AMG GT 4 which will go on sale in America in 2019.

While it’s sad to see the CLS 63 getting put out to pasture, Moers hinted the company could offer AMG variants of the E-Class Coupe and Convertible. They would be 53 variants and could arrive as early as 2019.

The report goes on to suggest the redesigned GLE will likely receive the 53 treatment sometime after the standard model is launched in early 2019.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Batman’s Mercedes Vision Gran Turismo 5

With Marvel superheroes often associated with Audi, and even Acura in the first Thor movie, DC teamed up with Mercedes-Benz in order to give Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince two very cool rides.

While the latter showed up to meet with Cyborg in an E-Class Convertible, Bruce Wayne gave The Flash a ride in his extremely exclusive (and by that we mean one-of) Vision Gran Turismo concept.

Apparently, the producers wanted to pair the characters up with cars that sort of represented their personality, which is why you might see someone like Bruce Wayne driving a car that nobody else owns.

According to Robert Oliver Samson, Mercedes’ creative director, when they built the V GT for the movie, they actually had to make it a little bigger than the original concept, which had a really tiny interior.

As for future movies, the only scheduled DC flick for next year is Aquaman, but it’s rather unlikely that the king of Atlantis needs four wheels and an engine to get around. If we were to guess, we’d say Mercedes could make another appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe two years from now, when Wonder Woman 2 hits theaters.

Hybridized Mercedes-AMG CLS53 Allegedly Confirmed For 2018 Detroit Show 29

Mercedes-AMG will reportedly expand the CLS nomenclature with an electrified 53 model.

Said to debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, next January, according to Autocar, it will follow hot on the heels of the regular versions that are just hours away from their LA Auto Show presentation.

The hybridized CLS will wear the AMG badges, Tobias Moers confirmed to the British publication, and it will slot between the 43 and 63 flavors. It’s expected to use the former’s 3.0-liter straight-six engine, together with a 67hp (50kW) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, to deliver a total of 429hp to the wheels.

It’s unknown yet whether it will be able to travel on electricity alone, even if it’s only for a few miles, but this version of the CLS will also benefit from regenerative braking technology, which will charge the batteries.

Besides confirming the output and nomenclature of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG CLS53, Moers suggested that a 53 version of the current E-Class could arrive, in the not too distant future. However, it’s been said that this drivetrain will only launch on the Coupe and Convertible versions of the executive car, while the Saloon and Estate will continue to be offered with the V8 engine.

Those looking for more power from a four-door Mercedes-AMG should wait for the AMG GT4 Saloon to debut next year. In its most potent guise, it will allegedly use a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, married to an electric motor, to produce approximately 800hp, just like the AMG GT Concept.

2018 Mercedes E-Class Convertible Lands In The U.S. From $66,300 20

Winter is right around the corner but that has stopped Mercedes from launching the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet in the United States.

Set to slot between the C- and S-Class convertibles, the E-Class Cabriolet is being billed as a luxury drop top that combines “pure, elegant design with long-distance comfort for four occupants.”

The car has a lot in common with the E-Class Coupe but the convertible is distinguished by a fabric soft top which is available in four different colors including black, red, dark blue and dark brown. Regardless of which color is selected, all of the roofs are fully automatic and feature insulation that promises to reduce wind and road noise.

Besides the fabric roof, the E-Class Cabriolet can be equipped with heat-reflecting leather upholstery, an Aircap wind deflector, and an Airscarf neck-level heating system.

The E-Class Cabriolet is currently on sale and pricing starts at $66,300. The entry-level model has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 329 hp (245 kW) and 354 lb-ft (479 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission which allows the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and return 20 mpg city / 26 mpg highway.

Customers can also order the E400 4MATIC Cabriolet which retails for $68,800. It has the same engine as the standard model but the addition of all-wheel drive enables the convertible to run from 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.

Old Mercedes E63 S Estate Needs 600+ HP To Keep Up With 2018 Flagship 14

In order for the old AMG-powered E63 S to contend with the brand new model, over 600 horses needed to be injected into the mix.

When stock, the old E63 S was good for 585 PS (577 HP) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, leading it from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds, or 3.7 seconds for the Estate, which is relevant in our case.

The 2018 E63 S on the other hand packs 612 PS (604 HP) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque straight from the factory, enough to hit the 100 km/h (62 mph) mark in just 3.3 seconds.

We already knew the newer car was quicker in a straight line, both on paper as well as in a real life test. Although, if you wondered how the two would compare if the old E63 S came with a bit more power, you’ll find that this video provides an answer.

The car in question (an E63 S Estate) is said to put down over 600 horses, which should at least give it a better chance of keeping up. Also, the two AMGs raced from a rolling start, which simplified matters since neither had to worry about losing traction.

One-Off Mercedes E400 4×4 Squared Is The Monster Wagon We Want 7
Nov
Posted by Michael Karkafiris in mercedes, Mercedes Concept, Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes Videos, video on 11 7th, 2017

A few years ago, no one would expect a carmaker like Mercedes to churn out mad jacked-up one-offs fitted with portal axles but apparently this is the time we live in, so welcome to the insane E400 All Terrain 4×4 Squared.

This absurd creation is basically an E-Class All Terrain that uses custom portal axles, creating a wagon with a massive 16 inches of ride height. The overall track is widened by 8 inches while the package is completed with a set of 31-inch tires.

Under the bonnet lies a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 with 328hp which is now heading to retirement as Mercedes has already debuted its new range of inline sixes.

Officially this thing is a strict one-off but judging by the huge response to the G63 6×6 and G500 4×4 Squared, Mercedes might actually build a few if enough customers demand it.

Does the world need a monster wagon? By any means no, but we can’t shake off the feeling of wanting one after watching Motor Trend’s latest Ignition episode.
