BMW M2 “GTS” Tuned By Evolve Gets The Art Car Treatment 4
Dec

BMW has been making its Art Cars since 1975, with the first one being a 3.0 CSL that raced at Le Mans. Evolve Automotive has done the same with a tuned BMW M2 .

The pictures posted on Flickr reveal their artistic take on the M2, which gained a unique, hand-painted livery.

No details have been released about the two artists responsible for this unofficial art car, but it’s supposed to be “based on a true story” – and it says so on the hood and upper side of the grille, using the BMW logo as a letter.

By the way, the GTS designation was given to the M2 by Evolve and not the Bavarian automaker. It was first revealed last December by the UK-based tuner and sports a body kit, along with rear wing, on the outside, alongside a healthy power boost that increases the engine’s output from 365 to 401 HP.

BMW M2 Competition Production Could Start In July 2018 16

BMW has yet to unveil the M2 Competition, while reports indicate production of the model will commence next summer, potentially at the start of July 2018, BMW Blog asserts.

Unlike most ‘Competition’ branded models from BMW’s M division, the M2 Competition won’t sit alongside the regular M2 in the model range. Instead, BMW will phase out the existing model, making the M2 Competition the only available model.

The reasoning for this unknown, but it’s likely that BMW thinks it can achieve higher profit margins with the M2 Competition, therefore making the standard car somewhat redundant.

Additionally, if the rumors about the Competition model prove to be accurate, it wouldn’t make much sense for an owner to purchase the entry-level model, unless it was significantly cheaper.

It is our understanding that the key development for the M2 Competition will be its adoption of the twin-turbo S55 six-cylinder engine from the M3 and M4. Sitting in place of the single-turbo 3.0-liter N55 of the M2, this engine will be tuned to produce roughly 400 hp.

BMW M2 CS Getting Ready To Fight Porsche Cayman GTS 15

BMW are sticking to their word to offer more CS models, and after unveiling the M4 CS and M3 CS earlier this year, they’re now prepping a more aggressive M2.

Caught doing the rounds on the Nurburgring, the M2 CS keeps its mystery aura on, as while some suggest that it will serve as a successor to the current M2 that will be retired next summer, others say it will be offered as a limited edition alongside the ‘regular’ car.

Whatever the Germans have in store for the M2 CS, one thing seems certain: it will drop its current N55 engine in favor of the S55 unit that currently powers the M3 and M4. However, since retaining the same output as its larger siblings would bring it too close for BMW’s comfort to them, the straight-six will be detuned, possibly to around 400hp and 500Nm (369lb-ft) of torque.

This will place the M2 CS slightly above the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS, which uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four that’s good for 365PS (360hp) and 430Nm (317lb-ft) of torque.

An even more special, limited production version of the M2 is reportedly in the pipeline for 2019, and it is expected to adopt the GTS moniker, benefiting not only from a power bump, to around 450hp, but also from a series of weight saving measures and a new aero agenda.

BMW M2 Competition Comes To Life With Realistic Renderings 10

If the rumors are correct, BMW will soon replace the M2 with an even more powerful version, dubbed the M2 Competition.

Unsurprisingly, the German automaker has yet to acknowledge the existence of such a car but our spy photographers have snapped it testing on multiple occasions. We’ve also learnt that it will ditch the single-turbo 3.0-liter N55 six-cylinder of the ‘regular’ M2 in favor of the twin-turbo S55 mill from the M3 and M4.

One thing we’re not so sure about is how the M2 Competition will look. This is where these life-like renderings come in.

Created by artist Monholo Oumar, the car pictured is distinguishable from the current M2 thanks to a new carbon fiber front splitter, side skirt fins, a trunklid lip spoiler, revised rear diffuser and carbon fiber tailpipes. Carbon can also be found on the roof and the wing mirrors.

We won’t know how accurate these renderings are until the car’s debut next year but if they are reasonably accurate, we’ll be very pleased.

BMW M2 Competition To Become The New Standard 7
Nov
Posted by Brad Anderson in BMW, BMW M, BMW M2, Reports on 11 7th, 2017

It is no secret that BMW is working on a couple variations of the popular M2. However, we’ve just heard that one of these models, the M2 CS, branded as the M2 Competition, will actually replace the entry-level model.

BMW Blog reports that the M2 as we know it will be retired in June 2018 to make way for the M2 Competition. Beyond spelling the end of BMW’s most affordable M model, this decision will also mean the 2-Series will no longer be available with the high-strung version of the 3.0-liter turbo N55 six-cylinder.

To give its souped-up 2-Series more performance, BMW will fit the S55 engine from the M3 and M4 into the new M2 Competition. Importantly, this powertrain will be slightly detuned to around 400 hp and 500 Nm of torque but thanks to the more compact size of the M2, acceleration, and handling could be on par with the M4.

The BMW M2 Competition isn’t the only new model set to adopt the M2 nameplate. In 2019, a hardcore, track-focused M2 GTS is expected to launch, powered by a 450 hp S55 engine and potentially limited to just 999 units worldwide.

BMW M2 Looks The Part With Bolder Aero Kit 5

For a touch over $50,000 in the U.S., the BMW M2 represents extraordinary value and with a few aftermarket parts, can be made to look even better than the M4.

This particular M2, recently delivered by BMW Abu Dhabi Motors, has been outfitted with a 3D Design bodykit that adds a selection of carbon fiber elements which wouldn’t be out of place in the M Performance Parts catalog.

Up front, the car includes a carbon fiber front splitter and a set of small canards on either side of the bumper. Elsewhere, 3D Design has created carbon side skirt trimmings while the rear is dominated by a large fixed rear wing, a carbon fiber diffuser and a new exhaust system. When complemented by the Long Beach Blue exterior paint, this is certainly one of the most attractive M2s we’ve seen.

The magic doesn’t stop on the outside. In the cabin, black leather has been contrasted by bright blue stitching and a plethora of carbon fiber parts.
