VW Slashes Tiguan Prices By Up To $2,180 In The U.S. 5
Jan

The redesigned Volkswagen Tiguan has only been on sale in the United States for a few months but that hasn’t stopped the company slashing prices in order to better compete with the competition.

Automotive News reports Volkswagen has informed dealers the price of the entry-level Tiguan S will be reduced by $600 which means it now starts at $25,495. The Tiguan SE sees a more substantial cut of $2,180 as the model now costs $27,650.

Likewise, the luxury-oriented Tiguan SEL starts at $31,990 which is a decrease of $1,460. The range-topping Tiguan SEL Premium is unchanged and costs $37,150.

The publication reports the price change is retroactive and Volkswagen is sending out new Monroney stickers to existing models in dealer inventory. This means customers who are shopping for a Tiguan should hold off for a bit as their patience will be rewarded with significant savings.

There doesn’t appear to be any other changes besides the price reductions but Volkswagen’s media site suggests models with the updated pricing will be called the 2018.5 Tiguan. Regardless, the crossover features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which produces 184 hp (137 kW) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system for an additional $1,300.

Longer VW Tiguan Allspace 7-Seater Arrives In UK Starting At £29,370 4

Available in three trim levels, the new Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has arrived in Britain, with a 7-seat layout, and more boot capacity.

Compared to the regular Tiguan models, the Allspace is 215mm (8.5in) longer, and rides on a 106mm (4.17in) longer wheelbase, which spans to 2,787mm (109.7in).

With all seats in position, the SUV has a luggage capacity of 230 liters (8.2cu-ft), but fold down the third row and the boot space will increase to 700 liters (24.72cu-ft), which is 85 liters (3cu-ft) more than the regular Tiguan. With the two rows folded flat, the luggage capacity stands at 1,775 liters (62.68cu-ft).

Pricing for the entry-level SE Navigation starts at £29,370 ($39,821) in the United Kingdom, when powered by the 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine with 150PS (148hp) and a 6-speed manual gearbox with FWD, whereas the cheapest 2.0-liter TDI diesel, rated at 150PS (148hp), can be had from £31,550 ($42,777). Opt for the most affordable 4WD model with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and get ready to pay £34,905 ($47,325), and that’s before checking any optional extras from the list.

This version of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is well-equipped, though, as it comes 18-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors, 3-zone climate control, Discover Navigation infotainment with 8.0-inch touchscreen display, sat-nav, DAB radio, and Bluetooth. It also packs adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist, Front Assist, and City Emergency Braking.

The SEL spec adds a 12.3-inch TFT screen in the instrument binnacle, front sports seats with 14-way adjustment, panoramic sunroof, hands-free boot opening, and 19-inch alloy wheels, being priced from £32,545 ($44,126).

Becoming available towards the end of Q1 2018 is the R-Line, which adds specific 20-inch alloy wheels, a sports suspension that brings the body 15mm (0.6in) closer to the ground, body-colored rear spoiler, and black interior rooflining.

VW Golf Production Exceeds 34 Million In Four Decades, Including 1 Million In 2017 31
Dec
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Reports, VW, VW Golf, VW Tiguan, VW Touran on 12 31st, 2017

Since its birth in 1974, the Golf has been an undisputed success for Volkswagen, and from the fourth generation until today, the benchmark against which any newcomer must measure itself.

Proof, if any was needed, is the impressive production number that exceeds 34 million examples in total for the hatchback, estate and Sportsvan, including almost 1 million put together this year alone.

“The Golf hatchback retained a commanding lead in its segment in Germany and Europe. The Golf estate recorded the strongest growth in the Golf family, at 11+ percent, compared with the previous year”, Volkswagen said.

However, the German car brand’s strongest growth in 2017 came from the Tiguan, whose sales rose by 40 percent compared to last year. In total, 730,000 units of the SUV were shipped to customers worldwide, with most orders coming from China and Germany.

Retaining a commanding lead in the MPV segment in Germany is the Touran. The minivan is quite popular in other European markets as well, and it brought important revenue for the Group in 2017 with approximately 150,000 units being shipped to customers worldwide.

The Volkswagen Group has yet to release their annual sales and revenue numbers, so it remains to be seen whether they can retain their dominant position, or if the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance will grab first place, as it did in the first six months of 2017.

VW’s To Offer New Tiguan And Atlas Sans The Third Row 26
Dec

Want a big SUV but don’t need the third row of seats? No problem, say automakers, as they start offering their most accommodating crossovers with just two rows.

Alongside the expanded three-row RX L, Lexus unveiled a two-row version of the big LX at the LA Auto Show last month. Volvo offers a four-seat Excellence version of the XC90, too. And according to the latest report, Volkswagen will be next.

Having enlarged the latest Tiguan to accommodate an extra row of seating, and slotted the new seven-seat Atlas into its expanding crossover lineup, VW is planning to roll out five-seat versions of both.

“We decided the Atlas will get a slightly lower-positioned five-seater, with nice, coupe-ish styling, [but the] same dimensions,” Volkswagen Group of America CEO Hinrich Woebcken told Automotive News.

The Tiguan, however, will “get kind of a little smaller” in its next iteration, ostensibly bridging the gap between the previous model and the new one.

The new models should help Volkswagen further enlarge its crossover portfolio without developing completely new models, while offering buyers a more comprehensive range of choices.
