2018 Bentayga Review Finds Bentley’s First-Ever SUV Simply Glorious 30
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Bentley, Bentley Bentayga, Bentley Videos, Film, reviews, video on 12 30th, 2017

Until recently, spending exotic car money on an SUV was almost unheard of. Bentley’s luxurious Bentayga however, might turn out to be worth every penny.

While it’s not perfect, the general consensus is that Bentley did a magnificent job, both technically as well as when it comes to quality, in its first-ever SUV.

People will still debate whether it looks good or not , but once you set foot inside and start driving it, its price tag might just start making sense – or at least that’s what Carwow’s review says.

On the downside, some of the switches inside aren’t as well-built as you’d expect and the infotainment screen won’t blow you away with its resolution, as there are better options out there. However, once you move past those issues, you might just find the Bentayga “glorious”, as this reviewer put it.

While the twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine is, obviously, the one to go for, the diesel does a great job as well. In any case, regardless the engine option, the Bentayga feels sharp and surprisingly planted while cornering, not to mention quiet and smooth.

Best of both worlds then? No wonder it comes at such a price; but we’ll see what Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and the rest will have to say about that.

Bentley’s New Continental GT Is A Tuxedo-Wearing Hooligan 8
Dec

Bentleys are often described as these road-crushing, distance-destroying, incredibly fast and opulent machines but you never hear about them being actually fun to drive; that is until now, with the arrival of the new Continental GT.

The truly new Conti GT claims that not only is better in every single metric compared to its predecessor but also capable of offering proper fun to the driver, despite still tipping the scales at a rather heavyweight 2,250kg (4,960lbs).

Power comes from a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 TSI engine that sends 626hp and 664lb-ft of peak torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. With the Sport mode engaged, Bentley says that the AWD system sends over 80 percent of the torque to the rear.

0-60mph comes in 3.6 seconds while top speed sits at 207mph (333km/h) if you must know but the true magic happens in the chassis; the adoption of the 48-volt electrical architecture allowed Bentley to use their new Dynamic Ride which controls the active anti-roll bars and makes sure that the car stays flat in all circumstances.

Combined with a revised three-chamber air suspension, the new Conti GT claims to offer one of the widest scopes on road manners, ranging from limousine levels of comfort to proper sporty handling.

Auto Express puts these claims to the test on the Anglesey circuit so let’s find out if the new Bentley Continental GT stays true to the description.

Bentley Bentayga Field Sports By Mulliner Is The Ultimate Hunting Tool 22
Nov
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Bentley, Bentley Bentayga, Bentley Videos, video on 11 22nd, 2017

Bentley and luxury shotgun maker Purdey have teamed up to create the Bentayga Field Sports by Mulliner.

Billed as the “ultimate field sports lifestyle accessory,” the one-off model is essentially a standard Bentayga which has been equipped with a custom storage unit that is constructed out of leather and aluminum. The sliding storage unit features an assortment of different compartments which can hold shotgun shells, binoculars, and ear muffs. The compartment is lockable and also includes a humidor as well as several different drink holders and a flask.

Since the crossover was designed for hunting, the Bentayga Field Sports by Mulliner comes with a leather-trimmed case which can hold two shotguns. The case rests on top of the storage unit and fits in between the rear seats.

Since Purdey also specializes in high-end fashion, the model has an “exquisite” bag that holds a waistcoat, a waterproof cape, and a field coat. It also houses gaiters, shoes, and an overnight bag.

Bentley declined to mention performance specifications but the model likely features a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine that produces 600 hp (447 kW) and 663 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. It enables the standard Bentayga to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds before hitting a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h).

Did Bentley Just Reveal A New Mulsanne Convertible In Dubai? 19

Ever since Bentley discontinued the Azure in 2010, we’ve been wondering if and when it would build a replacement. Now it appears that successor has been quietly unveiled in the Emirates.

We have no official information to draw on, but supercar videographer extraordinaire Shmee150 visited the marque’s flagship showroom in Dubai for an exclusive look at the new convertible Mulsanne.

As you may recall, Bentley revealed just such a concept to a select few at Pebble Beach several years ago. Now apparently approved for limited production, the Grand Convertible by Mulliner will be very expensive and highly exclusive. Shmee reports only 19 examples will be built, each priced at around of $3.5 million.

That’s a whole lot of dough, to be sure, but may be the only option in this particular class now that Rolls-Royce has discontinued the Phantom Drophead Coupe (offering only the smaller Dawn that’s closer in size to Bentley’s Continental GT).

That production number, incidentally, is anything but random. It refers to 1919: the year in which Bentley was founded. The first examples are slated to be delivered upon the marque’s centenary in 2019 (with the remaining examples to follow the next year). This will, after all, be a painstakingly hand-crafted model, coachbuilt by the Mulliner division.

It’s based on the Mulsanne Speed, which means it packs a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 good for 530 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque – along with all the bells and whistles that accompany that top spec.

Aside from the replacement of the four doors with two and the hard roof with a collapsible one, the Grand Convertible has been shorted by some 10 centimeters (or roughly four inches), taken out of the wheelbase. That’d make it a good foot shorter than the Extended Wheelbase model – to say nothing of the Grand Limousine version that was also crafted by Mulliner, stretched an extra 39 inches to fit an extra pair of seats in the back.

This particular example on display in Dubai is done up in Moroccan Blue and Frosted Silver (just like the Grand Limousine debut model) with a linen-colored leather interior. It also features what Shmee says is the largest single piece of wood veneer used in the industry, serving as a deck under which the fabric roof is stowed.

Is The Bentley Bentayga Really A More Extravagant Audi Q7? 5

Bentley broke the mold with the Bentayga, which is not only their first SUV, but also their first vehicle available with a diesel engine.

There are a few ‘buts’ that should be taken into consideration by potential customers, and one of them is the fact that it shares common elements with Audis, including the platform of the latest Q7. All that despite looking very expensive, both on the outside and in the cabin, as CarBuyer highlighted in their latest review.

However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because thanks to some clever modifications, joined by an air suspension and different driving modes, the Bentley Bentayga feels in its natural element, be it on a straight line or tackling corners. Moreover, it can also take users off-road, but they won’t feel as secure as they would be in a Range Rover, once the comfort of the asphalt ends. But we all know that it’s highly unlikely that Bentley’s SUV will ever go muddy.

Besides the 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine that makes 608PS (600hp) and 900Nm (663lb-ft) of torque, the Bentley Bentayga can also be had with the 4.0-liter tri-turbo V8 diesel that powers the Audi SQ7. This version delivers 435PS (429hp) and 900Nm (663lb-ft) of torque, and it works together with the same 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Those with deep pockets looking for the ultimate luxury SUV can also choose between plenty of personalization items, starting with the generous color palette, going through the interior trim, and ending with the Breitling clock, which adds a staggering £115,000 ($151,448) to the final price.
