Chevrolet Lets Detroit Auto Show Goers Experience Cars In 4D Virtual Reality 15
Jan
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Videos, Detroit-Auto-Show, Tech, video on 01 15th, 2018

Kia isn’t the only automaker bringing a 4D experience to the North American International Auto Show as Chevrolet has unveiled a new virtual reality display which gives attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how the company tests its vehicles.

Dubbed the Chevrolet Virtual Dynamics Lab, the experience puts users in the front passenger seat of various vehicles while they are being tested on different surfaces including gravel roads and a rock climbing course. The virtual reality headsets provide users with a 360-degree view of their surroundings and the experience apparently features the Equinox and Colorado ZR2.

Speaking of testing, Chevrolet says the 2019 Silverado will be subjected to at least seven million miles (11.2 million km) of testing and validation before the company ever delivers the first truck. Chevrolet also noted they have test chambers which are capable of simulating extreme environments including temperatures from -40° to 130° Fahrenheit as well as wind speeds ranging from 0 to 100 mph (0-161 km/h).

According to GM North America president Alan Batey, “Chevrolet is committed to delivering high-quality, durable vehicles able to withstand some of the harshest weather conditions and most unique driving situations people encounter today.” He went to say this will be shown to visitors by immersing them in their “rigorous testing processes” so they “better understand the capability built into our lineup of vehicles.”

Callaway’s Sexy Z06 Aerowagen Taken To Its Limits At A Circuit 9
Jan
Posted by Brad Anderson in Callaway, Chevrolet Videos, Corvette, Film, tuning, video on 01 9th, 2018

The Chevrolet Corvette SC757 Z06 Aerowagen from Callaway defines the phrase ‘weird and wonderful.’

For the most part, the heavily-modified Corvette is quite similar to a ‘regular’ Z06, the key difference being that its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine has been equipped with a Power Kit that bumps grunt up to 757 hp and 775 lb-ft (1050 Nm) of torque.

However, it isn’t just the powertrain that makes the Aerowagen unique. What distinguishes it from all other Corvettes is the hatch conversion which transforms the American supercar into an exceptionally sleek Shooting Brake that isn’t about practicality and instead solely about looking good.

The car was revealed in early 2017 and Motor Week recently had the opportunity to test out the supercar on a circuit.

If you thought the Aerowagen looked good standing still, just wait and till you see it on the move!

Pair Of Le Mans-Winning Corvettes Meet At Thermal Club 6

When a personal car collection includes both the first Corvette that ever raced in Le Mans along with the last one, you have to bring those two together on a race track.

Bruce Meyer is the man that holds the keys to both the iconic Briggs-Cunningham C1 Corvette that raced in Le Mans in 1960 and a C6.R that won its class in 2009.

The C1 is the #2 car entered by the Cunningham team in Le Mans but failed to finish the 1960 race, but another C1 from the same team managed to score the victory in its class.

“I’ve always been a hot-rodder, a bit of a patriot and I love to see the American dominance in sports, and in motorsports,” said Meyer to Petrolicious. “I love the American effort at Le Mans, and I decided to go see if I could find one of the original Le Mans Corvettes. So my first entry was with the C1 Corvette, and this was the very first Corvette to ever run Le Mans.”

Meyer’s C6.R is chassis 007 and comes with an impressive racing history. Despite the obvious advances in aerodynamics and chassis engineering, the racing Corvette’s recipe retained the simple but always effective formula of a big, powerful engine, just like the C1 did.

“In its career, it raced 15 races, and of those 15 it finished 1st in 10 of them, and when it didn’t finish first, in four of them it finished 2nd, and one time it DNF’d,” Meyer added. “So it’s come through unscathed, and as you see it today, is exactly how it finished Le Mans in 2009.”

Chevrolet’s New 2018 Tahoe RST Is Intriguing, But Is It Worth $78,000? 5
Jan
Posted by Brad Anderson in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Videos, Film, SUV, video on 01 5th, 2018

SUVs are all the rage nowadays and one of the most popular from General Motors is the large Chevrolet Tahoe.

Like the Suburban, the Tahoe is a behemoth but earlier this year, the brand introduced a sporty RST package for the SUV despite its size. Hoovies Garage recently jumped behind the wheel of the $78,000 Chevrolet to see if it is worth the money.

Compared to a standard Tahoe, the RST includes a Borla high-performance exhaust system and optional Brembo six-piston front calipers alongside mammoth 410 x 32 mm discs.

From a visual standpoint, Tahoe RST customers receive a gloss black front grille, black roof rails, unique badging, and 22-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone rubber.

Earlier this month, Chevrolet introduced a host of updates for its Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle and Hoovies Garage also had the chance to test it out.

Just a couple of weeks after premiering at the LA Auto Show, the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Convertible has been filmed up close while driving in the U.S.

This particular clip was filmed in Bowling Green and shows the dark blue pre-production ZR1 Convertible testing on the I-65. Sitting behind the wheel was Corvette product marketing manager Harlan Charles.

Sales of the ZR1 Convertible, as well as the Coupe, will commence next Spring. In the meantime, Chevrolet will put the final touches on the supercar, ensuring that it is capable of competing with the industry’s finest.

Sitting under the hood of the ZR1 is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivering 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet says the car will hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 3 seconds, complete the quarter mile in the high 10-second range, and sprint to over 210 mph (337 km/h).

Prices for the ZR1 Convertible start at $123,995 while the new ZR1 Coupe is slightly cheaper at $119,950.

2018 Mustang GT vs 2018 Camaro SS: Two Sides Of The Same Coin? 22
Dec

It is time to find out how the new Ford Mustang V8 compares against the Chevrolet Camaro SS so strap in for the latest episode of the most classic battle royal in the business.

Ford went the extra mile when it updated the Mustang for its mid-life facelift: this isn’t just another nip n’ tuck where you add a few new colors, introduce a new wheel design and call it a day after all.

The 2018 Ford Mustang features a revised bodywork with a new front fascia and a lower bonnet, a re-engineered 5.0-liter V8 fed by both direct and port injection which now makes 460hp and 420lb-ft of torque and almost GT350-levels of music, as well as a new 10-speed automatic transmission among others.

The Chevrolet Camaro SS on the other hand features a 6.2-liter V8 with 455hp and 455lb-ft of torque and a balanced chassis that makes it more enjoyable on the twisty stuff than ever.

Both cars are neck and neck on most areas but there are some key differences pointed out on Edmunds’ latest video comparison that should help you decide, if you haven’t already.

Chevy’s SSR Was The Roadster Pickup Truck Nobody Asked For 21
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Videos, Film, Trucks, video on 12 21st, 2017

Go back to the early 2000s and you’ll probably see that GM wasn’t taking that many chances on unconventional body styles, until the SSR came along.

The SSR featured a retro design, inspired by Chevrolet’s Advance Design series of trucks from the late 40s and early 50s. Aside from the quirky styling, it also came with a retractable hardtop, making it a rather unique offering.

Inside, while the materials used were far from premium, the SSR was pretty well equipped, even boasting heated leather seats, though good luck trying to turn them on with the doors closed.

Over the course of his review with the Chevrolet SSR, Doug DeMuro found a large number of quirks, which include the odd placement of the heated seats buttons, but also the placement of the traction control button, the removable cup holder, and plenty more.

On the road, the SSR proved surprisingly decent to drive, with a smooth transmission (for such an old GM product that is), and a relatively punchy engine – though DeMuro wouldn’t go as far as to call it quick.

In the end, this is the type of car you either love or hate, and since it wasn’t exactly a sales success story, we can safely assume that most people wouldn’t see themselves driving one of these things on a daily basis.

Can A Stock Camaro ZL1 Beat Tesla’s Model S P100D In A Straight Line? 16
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Videos, Drag-Racing, Electric Vehicles, Tesla Model S, Tesla Videos, video on 12 16th, 2017

Ever since Tesla came out with the ultra-fast Model S P100D, we’ve seen it tackle several muscle cars and come out on top, especially over short distances like the 1/4 mile.

This is due to the fact that the all-electric saloon has as much as 920 lb-ft (1,247 Nm) of torque available from the word go, which puts it at a major advantage compared to pretty much any internal combustion powered opponent.

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is putting down 650 horses and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque, and while it’s not quite as powerful as the Tesla, it might have a chance while racing from a rolling start.

From a standstill, it’s hard for any supercar to keep up with a Model S P100D, unless we’re talking about the McLaren 720S, but as you already know, that one is knocking on hypercar territory.

Anyway, despite having rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, this 2017 ZL1 performed really well from a rolling start. To find out whether it was able to beat the Tesla, though, you’ll have to watch the video right after the break.

Chevrolet Aveo/Sonic Fails Latin NCAP Tests Despite The Addition Of Airbags 15

Latin NCAP continue to express their concerns with vehicles sold at South American markets after the Chevrolet Aveo became the latest in a string of cars to fail their tests.

Otherwise known as Chevrolet Sonic north of the border, the Aveo is one of the best selling cars in Mexico, and it scored zero stars in Latin NCAP’s latest crash test session, despite being equipped with 2 standard front airbags, unlike the model tested in 2015.

In the frontal impact test, the subcompact car “recorded poor protection to the chest of the driver, even with airbags”, Latin NCAP notes, adding that “the structural performance was rated as unstable, which explains also the movement of the steering column and pedals, increasing the risk of injuries to the driver”.

The Aveo’s side impact protection was rated as ‘adequate’ to ‘good’, thanks to “good energy absorption features”, whereas the child occupant protection “showed improvements” from the model tested two years ago.

“Latin NCAP showed, once again, that just adding airbags will not make a car safe when the structure is unstable”, said the organization’s Secretary General Alejandro Furas. “We call for GM to bring the same safety levels offered as standard by them in other markets to Latin America very soon.”

The safety specialists also tested the Nissan Kicks during their latest session, which failed to achieve the maximum 5-star safety rating. The subcompact SUV, which will launch in the USA next spring, scored 4 stars for both adult occupant and child occupant protection, after it “showed an unstable structural and footwell area performance in the frontal crash test”.

Finally, the Nissan Murano was subjected to the frontal and pole side impact tests as well and was awarded with a 5-star safety rating.

Watch The 2018 Corvette ZR1 Spit Flames For 12 Seconds 8
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Videos, Corvette, video on 12 8th, 2017

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is an absolute beast. Need proof? Watch this video of the front-engine supercar spewing flames for a full 12-seconds on a track.

Captured during prototype testing of the ZR1, the clip shows the car accelerating at full throttle while shooting bright blue flames. It really looks as if the car has small rockets at the back rather than tailpipes.

Although we’ll have to wait until journalists get their hands on the new ZR1 to see if it lives up to the hype, the figures published by General Motors indicate that it will be an absolute animal.

Sitting at the heart of the ZR1 is a 6.2-liter supercharged LT5 V8 engine delivering 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be paired to either an eight-speed automatic transmission or seven-speed manual and will send the ZR1 to a top speed exceeding 210 mph (337 km/h). Chevrolet also believes the car will set a sub-7-minute lap at the Nurburgring.

GM Rolls Out Its New Marketplace App, Will Allow Drivers To Order Coffee From Their Car 5
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chevrolet Videos, GM, GMC, Tech, USA, video on 12 5th, 2017

Getting your morning cup of Starbucks is about to get a lot easier if you drive a General Motors vehicle as the company has just announced it is rolling out its all-new Marketplace.

Billed as the “industry’s first commerce platform for on-demand reservations and purchases,” the Marketplace is essentially an app that resides on the infotainment system of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles. The app will be rolled out to millions of existing 2017 and 2018 vehicles and doesn’t require a separate data plan.

A handful of companies have created their own Marketplace sections and these include restaurants such as Applebee’s, IHOP, TGI Fridays, and Wingstop. Other notable partners include Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, Shell, and ExxonMobil.

The services vary by company but Starbucks fans can place their order through the app, while drivers looking to hit up TGI Fridays can make reservations at a restaurant and time of their choosing. While no one really needs to order coffee from their infotainment system, the Parkopedia option is interesting as it will allow drivers to “find, reserve, and pay for parking, all at the click of a button.”

The service will be available to approximately four million drivers in the United States within the next 12 to 18 months and GM’s Vice President for Global Connected Customer Experience, Santiago Chamorro, said “The average American spends 46 minutes per day on the road driving. Leveraging connectivity and our unique data capabilities, we have an opportunity to make every trip more productive and give our customers time back.”

Hennessey Delivers An Insane 1,000HP Camaro ZL1 Exorcist 5
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Camaro, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Videos, Hennessey, tuning, video on 12 5th, 2017

Not one to shy away from a challenge, John Hennessey decided to create a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1-based rival to the Dodge Challenger Demon before the Demon was even released.

Aptly named ‘The Exorcist’, the Camaro upgrade package sees power from the LT4 supercharged V8 rise from 650 hp to 1,000 hp at 6,400 rpm and 966 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. What does all of this grunt look like?

Well, Hennessey recently delivered one of the first The Exorcist models with the help of former GM engineer John Heinricy and the clip below perfectly depicts how insane this car is.

Whereas Dodge focused solely on making the Demon as fast as possible on a drag strip, Hennessey’s ZL1 is just as capable through corners as it is in a straight line. Pit The Exorcist against a Demon around a racetrack and it’s obvious that the tuner car would win easily.

Chevy Adds Active Safety Tech To 2018 Tahoe Police Vehicles [w/Video] 5
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Chevrolet, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Videos, Police, Police Cars, Reports, Tech, video on 12 5th, 2017

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV is the first vehicle in its class able to minimize potential crash speeds or help avoid accidents all together.

Aside from the active safety tech, the Tahoe PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) also comes with a wide array of safety enhancing features as standard, such as ESC or a Rear Vision Camera with Rear Park Assist.

“We want to protect our protectors and help them get home safely at the end of every shift,” said GM exec, Ed Peper. “The safety technologies we are introducing on the Tahoe PPV may serve as a second set of eyes.”

The new tech is part of Chevrolet’s Enhanced Driver Assist Package, which features Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Safety Alert Driver Seat and Power Adjustable Pedals.

The Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking feature has never been offered on a pursuit-rated vehicle before. It works by applying the brakes automatically to help reduce the severity of a crash, as long as the vehicle is traveling at a low speed and the driver hasn’t already applied the brakes.

Meanwhile, the GM-patented Safety Alert Seat system can alert the driver through haptic seat-bottom vibration pulses, instead of the usual audible crash avoidance alerts.

“When they’re on road patrol, police officers are constantly multitasking,” said Royal Oak PD retired chief, Theodore Quisenberry. “Now when officers are scanning their surroundings, so is their vehicle. That will help them stay safe.”
