Lexus has pulled the wraps off the LF-1 Limitless concept at the Detroit Auto Show, showing off their vision for a flagship luxury SUV.

According to the company’s CALTY Design Research studio in California, the new Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept is designed to look “like molten metal being forged into a fine Japanese sword”, previewing at the same time the next step in the company’s design language.

“This is our vision for a new kind of flagship vehicle that embraces crossover capability without giving up the performance and luxury delivered by today’s top sedans,” said Kevin Hunter, president, CALTY Design Research. “The LF-1 Limitless concept incorporates imaginative technology while creating a strong emotional connection by improving the human experience for the driver and passengers.”

Lexus avoided to specify what kind of powertrain the LF-1 concept uses by simply saying that “like the name of the concept, the possibilities for powertrains are limitless”. Choices include everything from fuel cell to plug-in hybrid and from gasoline to pure electric.

The company’s designers take great pride at the LF-1’s athletic proportions, with the cabin sitting deep within the chassis which in combination with the 22-inch alloys give it an aggressive and powerful stance.

Another interesting fact is that Lexus didn’t use any chrome on the bodywork, with the spindle grille featuring LED lighting that greets the driver on arrival. “This LF-1 Limitless concept illustrates what could happen if Lexus were to add a flagship crossover to our line-up. It’s a gorgeous execution and we’re anxious to see our customers’ and dealers’ response,” said Lexus General Manager Jeff Bracken.

The cabin was designed for maximum comfort for every passenger, adhering to the Japanese tradition of omotenashi, or hospitality. The dashboard does away with analog knobs and buttons, replacing them with motion-activated controls and a minimalist display ahead. As you would expect from a concept in 2018, the Lexus LF-1 Limitless also offers a fully autonomous Chauffeur mode as well.

Lexus Drops One Last LF-1 Limitless Teaser Before The Big Reveal 14

Of all the new concepts that’ll be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show this week, one of those we’re looking forward to seeing the most is the Lexus LF-1 Limitless.

Billed as a “premium flagship crossover,” the concept has been the subject of two successive teasers until now, and Lexus has just released yet another.

The video is still far from a full reveal, stopping short from showing the overall shape. It does, however, give us a glimpse at some of the show car’s details, including the innovative headlights, mesh grille, split-five-spoke wheels, part of the tailgate, and the techy-looking center console controls.

From what we can see so far, it looks like it could be a real stunner, even if it is a crossover and not, say, a supercar to succeed the LFA. But then, if recent history (starting with Porsche and the Cayenne) has shown us anything, it’s that luxury crossovers are the big sellers bringing in the cash that allow automakers to make the supercars.

Lexus Drops Another LF-1 Concept Teaser Ahead Of Detroit Unveiling 19

The Lexus LF-1 concept will arrive at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January to preview the automaker’s new flagship SUV.

In a previous teaser, we saw a little bit of its sloped rear end, which features a continuous light strip hugging the tailgate as well as some of the rear bumper and fenders.

We also know that the LF-1 was designed in Southern California at the CALTY design studio, and that it will represent the next step in the Japanese automaker’s current design language.

This latest teaser shows a partially lit front fascia, with pointy and aggressive-looking LED daytime running lights and a backlit badge in the middle of the grille, which may turn out to be just as massive as the one on the all-new LS saloon.

The LF-1 will be unveiled on January 15, at approximately 8:35 AM EST (1:35 PM GMT) in Detroit, and the entire event will be streamed online here.

Lexus will reveal a new flagship SUV concept called LF-1 at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show and decided to tease us with a partial photo of it.

All we know so far is the LF-1 was designed at the CALTY design studio in Southern California and is expected to showcase the next step in Lexus’ current design language, with the company describing it as a “crossover with no limits”.

“Lexus will reveal a striking new concept that reflects the next genre in luxury crossover vehicles. Created by the CALTY design studio in Southern California, the Lexus LF-1 Limitless is a flagship crossover that redefines the boundaries of luxury,” the company said in their short press release.

So it looks like Lexus is getting ready to enter the luxury SUV game, with the single teaser image revealing a sloping roofline which means that the LF-1 concept will most likely be a big SUV Coupe of some sort.

Everything will be much clearer once Lexus pulls the wraps off the LF-1 SUV concept at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Lexus Dealers Want The Production-Spec UX In The U.S. 30

Lexus dealerships in the United States want the Japanese carmaker to sell the impending production-spec UX locally.

Lexus first revealed its intent to bring the eye-catching UX to the market earlier this year but since then, little has been made about the vehicle. However, during a discussion with Motor 1 at the LA Auto Show, Lexus general manager Jeff Bracken said local dealerships want the vehicle as a new entry-level model.

“It’s something that our consumers are looking for. Our dealers are all over us to produce that concept vehicle. We are in the process of helping our company understand what we’re leaving on the table. So it’s laser focused and stay tuned,” he confirmed.

If the UX were to land in U.S. shores, it would fill the void left behind by the CT200h hybrid hatchback.

Lexus reportedly holds trademarks for the names UX 200, UX 250, and UX 250h in the United States, indicating that it is seriously considering local sales of the vehicle. A starting price of just over $30,000 would be likely.

The Lexus UX Crossover Concept was first unveiled at last year’s Paris Auto Show, teasing a small crossover to slot below the NX and rival the Audi Q2.

Lexus Takes A Closer Look At The SkyJet In Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets 20
Jun

Lexus is celebrating its involvement in the upcoming movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets by taking a closer look at the SkyJet featured in the film.

Jointly created with director Luc Besson and his design team, the SkyJet is a “single-seat pursuit craft” that features a spindle grille and headlights that draw inspiration from the Lexus LC coupe.

Since the film is set 700 years in the future, the design team had to envision a high-tech interior influenced by Lexus’ research into artificial intelligence and advanced human-machine-interface (HMI) technologies. Lexus says this could involve everything from simple hand gestures to the LF-FC concept’s hologram technology.

Lexus even influenced the SkyJet’s powertrain as it uses hydrogen fuel cell technology which isn’t too far removed from the system in the LF-FC concept.

In a statement, Lexus Chief Engineer said “Technology will constantly advance and many things far in the distant future are impossible to be certain of now, however, at Lexus, we continuously challenge ourselves to imagine them.”

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will hit theaters on July 21st and the film stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Clive Owen.
