This 2019 Hyundai Veloster Hot Rod Will Star In Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’ 15
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Hyundai, Hyundai Veloster, Movie Cars, new cars, Reports on 01 15th, 2018

No, it’s not a joke. The pictured modified version of the second-generation Hyundai Veloster will be introduced to the big screen later this year, as part of a global marketing initiative.

According to the Korean brand, the 2019 Veloster in hot rod attire will be featured in “a hot pursuit” scene of Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp, which highlights its “capabilities in serving as the ultimate escape vehicle”, along with its “speed and handling”.

Finished in purple and adorned with yellow and orange flames, the tuned Veloster that would feel right at home at SEMA has a few other mods that make it instantly noticeable, such as the hood scoop, side exhaust pipes, large rear wing, and chunky tires.

The sequel of the 2015 ‘Ant-Man’ movie is scheduled to premiere on July 6 at cinemas across the US, and it will mark the Hollywood debut of other Hyundai vehicles, whose names haven’t been released yet.

“The Veloster totally exemplifies the energetic, no-holds-barred attitude that accompanies this franchise, and we’re going to have a lot of fun working with Hyundai to see how we can share that mindset with fans all around the world”, commented Marvel’s SVP of Global Partnership and Marketing, Mindy Hamilton.

Prior to its movie debut, Hyundai will start producing the new generation Veloster in March, in their homeland, with the first cars expected to arrive on our shores in the second quarter of the year.

Subsequently, the performance-oriented N version that adds a host of visual and technical upgrades, including a 275hp 2.0-liter four-banger, will be put together from September, and the first units will be shipped to the US before the end of 2018.

Buy Steve McQueen’s ’51 Chevy, Drive Like The King Of Cool 13
Jan
Posted by Carscoops Staff in auction, celebrities, Chevrolet, Classics, Movie Cars, video on 01 13th, 2018

Celebrity provenance can add a lot of allure – and value – to a classic car. Especially if that celebrity was no other than Steve McQueen

As much a car guy as he was an actor, McQueen amassed an enviable collection of cars and motorcycles. This classic Chevy convertible was just one, and right now it needs a new home.

The 1951 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Convertible didn’t just belong to the legendary King of Cool – it appeared alongside him (or all around him) in The Hunter, which turned out to be the last movie he ever made.

He bought it off the set when filming was done, while its current owner in turn bought it from the late actor’s estate auction in Las Vegas back in 1984, just a few years after his passing. The car was featured in Matt Stone’s 2007 book “McQueen’s Machines: The Cars and Bikes of a Hollywood Icon,” on a two-part episode of Pawn Stars, and comes with a document signed by McQueen’s children Chad and Terry attesting to its authenticity.

It might not be a racing Porsche or classic Ferrari – heck, its six-cylinder engine only puts out 92 horsepower through a 3-speed manual transmission – but it was McQueen’s all the same, both on and off the set. And it could be yours if you place the winning bid at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale later this month.

Baby Driver Returns To Subaru WRX To Pull Off Snowy Drifts 10

Posted by Joel V. Patel in drifting, Film, Movie Cars, Subaru, subaru impreza, Subaru Videos, Subaru WRX, video on 01 10th, 2018

Ansel Elgort, the star in the film “Baby Driver,” kept one of the six Subaru WRX sedans that were used during the filming of the movie. Instead of putting the WRX away, Elgort took to Twitter to showcase some snowy drifts.

As the wheelman in the film, Elgort received tons of training to ensure that he could actually perform the stunts in the movie’s chase scenes, which is probably why we loved “Baby Driver.” Apparently, Elgort remembered some of his training, because the drifts he pulled off during New York City’s recent snowstorm were on point.

According to Motor1, making “Baby Driver” took six WRX sedans. One of the sedans was converted to rear-wheel drive and fitted with an upgraded differential to keep the smoky drifts going. That vehicle, even with 158,000 miles on the clock, sold for $69,100 on eBay.

While that vehicle is probably stored away somewhere, Elgort begged the studio to take one of the WRX sedans home. After roughly a year of begging, Sony finally obliged his request, giving the actor the Subaru for his birthday.

Clearly, Elgort’s still enjoying being behind the wheel of a Subaru.

The Eleanor Mustang Is Back And Can Be Yours For $189,000 3
Jan
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Classics, Ford, Ford Mustang, Movie Cars on 01 3rd, 2018

It’s been nearly 18 years since Nicolas Cage starred in the remake of Gone in Sixty Seconds but the Ford Mustang known as Eleanor is still instantly recognizable after all this time.

The model is highly sought after and the Fusion Motor Company has announced it secured the rights to build “officially licensed Eleanor Mustang Fastbacks.” As the company explains, they inked a deal with Gone in 60 Seconds co-producer Denise Halicki whose late husband, H.B. “Toby” Halicki, created and starred in the original movie in 1974.

Fusion president Yoel Wazana meet Halicki through mutual friends and the two discussed his Eleanor tribute car that was built by another manufacturer. Wazana says the car had a number of issues including bad Bondo transitions and a fiberglass body that sagged and vibrated. After Halicki toured Fusion’s fabrication shop, she felt the company should build the latest Eleanor Mustangs.

Each model is based on a 1967 or 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback and the donor cars are stripped to their shells and given a complete overhaul which includes the installation of new reinforcements and a Detroit Speed Aluma-Frame front IFS kit. The cars are also equipped with a custom multi-link rear suspension, Wilwood brakes, and a Currie Enterprises Ford 9-inch rear end. Other highlights include a limited-slip differential, carbon fiber components, and LED lighting units which look period correct when they are shut off.

Inside, drivers will find factory-style lowback bucket seats, a tilt steering column, and an air-conditioning system. Other niceties include power locks and an audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. A variety of options are available including Recaro racing seats, custom Auto Meter gauges, and an infotainment system with GPS navigation.

Five different Roush V8 engines are available and the entry-level unit is a 5.0-liter V8 that produces 430 hp (320 kW). A supercharged variant bumps the output to 600 hp (447 kW), while there are also three 427 cubic inch engines with outputs of 480 hp (357 kW), 560 hp (417 kW) and 750 hp (559 kW). These can be connected to either a five or six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing starts at $189,000 and it takes about six months to build the car.

The Grand Tour Season 2 Ep 4 Trailer Oozes Unscripted Action 27
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Amazon, Movie Cars, The Grand Tour, video on 12 27th, 2017

The fourth episode of The Grand Tour’s second season will, for the very first time, feature no pre-arranged locations, stunts or incidents. Question is, will we laugh as much?

We’re just two days away from finding out what a high-budget car show without a script actually looks like. To kick things off, Clarkson, Hammond and May will arrive in Croatia with an Audi TT RS, an Ariel Nomad and a Fire Engine.

Meanwhile, back at the Eboladrome, Hammond will get behind the wheel of the McLaren 720S and experience its Internet-breaking hypercar-like performance.

As for the Celebrity Face Off segment, this week it will be Michael Ball versus Alfie Boe. The Grand Tour is hoping to see who is the world’s fastest classical singer with a connection to the British motor industry.

“I’ve got to say I didn’t think I’d enjoy it that much, but I had the best morning ever,” said Ball. “I went for it and I just hope I’ve beaten Alfie, that’s all I’m hoping for! I was very very competitive. I don’t think I’ve won, but if I have I won’t gloat or ever mention it ever again.”

Meanwhile, Boe stated that despite tricky conditions (wet, muddy, foggy), he still had an amazing time behind the wheel.

“I do want to beat Michael, I want to have done well and at least be credible and if Michael has beaten me than fair play, he’s a good guy and I’d be thrilled for him, but deep down inside I’d be a little disappointed in myself.”

Mortal Engines Imagines An Apocalyptic World With Mobile Cities 18
Dec
Posted by Michael Gauthier in Film, Movie Cars, video on 12 18th, 2017

Peter Jackson and Universal Pictures have released the first trailer for a movie called Mortal Engines.

Set thousands of years in the future after “civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event,” the movie sees what’s left of humanity living on movable cities. The trailer doesn’t provide a lot of information but we can see a relatively smaller city being attacked by a massive and mobile version of London.

The clip is relatively short but, as Collider notes, it definitely has a Mad Max and Waterworld vibe – hopefully more of the former and less of the latter.

The movie is based on a series of books written by Philip Reeve and it tells the tale of Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) who is a resident of London that encounters a fugitive named Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Universal Pictures says this chance encounter sparks an “unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.”

Mortal Engines is already playing in select theaters and it is directed by Christian Rivers from a script written by Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh. Besides the two main leads, the film stars Hugo Weaving, Stephen Lang, Leila George, and Sarah Peirse.

Batman’s Tumbler And Justice League Batmobile Appear For Sale In Dubai 15
Dec
Posted by Brad Anderson in Batmobile, Galleries, Movie Cars, used cars on 12 15th, 2017

When it comes to memorable movie cars, few from recent times are more iconic than Batman’s Tumbler used in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Night Rises.

Looking less like a car and more like an alien spaceship with wheels, the Tumbler is truly out-of-this-world and has already inspired a life-like Lamborghini Gallardo-based replica. Now, the Tumbler, as well as its replacement used in Justice League, are for sale in Dubai.

The listing claims that the Tumbler being offered for sale is the only one of its kind in the world and was used during filming of the three aforementioned films. We find it a little hard to believe that it’s the only example in existence but even if it’s not, it is still extremely rare. As for the Justice League Batmobile included in the sale, it is a static model and doesn’t feature a functioning powertrain.

According to the seller, the Tumbler is underpinned by a steel box frame and powered by a Corvette LS1 V8 engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The vast majority of the exterior panels are said to be made from carbon fiber while the entire interior is made from the lightweight material.

Surprisingly, the Tumbler actually has some creature comforts, including Bluetooth, eight cameras across the exterior which display images to four screens mounted in the cabin, LED lights, and no less than eight driving lamps.

Curiously, the listing has two wildly different asking prices for the pair of Batmobiles. The first sits at 2,590,000 AED ($705,000) while the second asking price listed in the description is for 1.69 million AED ($460,000). We’ve contacted the seller to seek clarification.

F&F Tokyo Drift Nissan 350Z Listed At £99,950 15

The famous Nissan 350Z owned by Takashi, or Drift King (DK) in ‘Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift’, could be yours, as it has been listed for sale on found one with 14,000 miles (22,530km) on the clock that’s four years newer than the movie car, for £8,500 ($11,415), which makes it almost 12 times cheaper, and an actual bargain.

Believed to be one of two Nissan 350Zs that survived filming, as well as the primary one used in the famous drifting scenes and the only one equipped with performance upgrades (including the APS twin-turbo engine), this car is said to come from a private collector who purchased it straight from Universal Pictures, after the release of the film in 2006.

It was registered new in Japan four years earlier, and it’s described as being “unique in every way”, and “the car of every boy racer’s dreams” by AutoTrader’s Editorial Director, Erin Baker, who’s optimistic that this 350Z can find someone to show it “a little bit more TLC than Takashi did 11 years ago”.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Batman’s Mercedes Vision Gran Turismo 5
Dec
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in mercedes, Mercedes Concept, Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes Videos, Movie Cars, video on 12 5th, 2017

With Marvel superheroes often associated with Audi, and even Acura in the first Thor movie, DC teamed up with Mercedes-Benz in order to give Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince two very cool rides.

While the latter showed up to meet with Cyborg in an E-Class Convertible, Bruce Wayne gave The Flash a ride in his extremely exclusive (and by that we mean one-of) Vision Gran Turismo concept.

Apparently, the producers wanted to pair the characters up with cars that sort of represented their personality, which is why you might see someone like Bruce Wayne driving a car that nobody else owns.

According to Robert Oliver Samson, Mercedes’ creative director, when they built the V GT for the movie, they actually had to make it a little bigger than the original concept, which had a really tiny interior.

As for future movies, the only scheduled DC flick for next year is Aquaman, but it’s rather unlikely that the king of Atlantis needs four wheels and an engine to get around. If we were to guess, we’d say Mercedes could make another appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe two years from now, when Wonder Woman 2 hits theaters.

Nissan Gets Into The Star Wars Spirit With Six ‘Last Jedi’ Concepts 29
Nov
Posted by Carscoops Staff in concepts, LA Auto Show, Movie Cars, nissan, Nissan Altima, Nissan Concepts, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Rogue, Nissan Rogue Sport on 11 29th, 2017

When you hear the word “rogue,” do you think of a Star Wars movie or a Nissan crossover? Well the creators of each want you to think of both, and to that end have revealed an array of concept cars at the LA Auto Show.

Made to promote the upcoming theatrical release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the six vehicles have been individually crafted to take on the spirit of the sci-fi franchise and its latest installment.

There’s an Altima sedan done up to emulate the TIE Fighters deployed in the First Order’s Special Forces squadron, with a multi-panel windshield, special wheels, full body wrap, and speakers to play TIE Fighter and blaster sounds.

It’s joined by three different takes on the Maxima – one channeling Kylo Ren’s black and silver facemask, another emulating his TIE Silencer spacecraft with its distinctive wings, and a third made for Captain Phasma of the First Order in silver with black and red.

Given the title of the last film, it should come as no surprise that the Rogue is well represented here as well. There’s one done up like Poe Dameron’s X-wing starfighter – complete with a BB-8 droid popping out the roof – and a Rogue Sport taking on the design of an A-wing fighter in blue and white.

Of all the concepts on display at the LA show this year, these seem the least likely to enter production. But they will be making their rounds of the local shows once this one’s done.

Posted by Sergiu Tudose in BMW, BMW i3, celebrities, Electric Vehicles, Movie Cars on 11 21st, 2017

Seinfeld co-creator and current star of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David, is driving around in a brand new BMW i3 for the show’s ninth season. David drove a Toyota Prius in the show’s previous seasons, and was even spotted driving one in real life.

Curb Your Enthusiasm has been off the air for the past six years, and to see it keep up with what’s trending in the real world isn’t that big of a surprise. Aside from the i3, which is has been featured heavily in most of the episodes thus far, a bright red Tesla Model S also made a cameo.

U.S. buyers can purchase a BMW i3 from $44,450, although if they go for the version with the range extender, that will bump the price to $48,300. The most expensive i3 you can buy is the Sport model with the range extender, for $51,500.

If you want to get one that looks just like Larry’s, make sure to also get the 20-inch BMW i double-spoke alloys, which are a $1,300 optional extra.
