Baby Driver Returns To Subaru WRX To Pull Off Snowy Drifts 10
Posted by Joel V. Patel in drifting, Film, Movie Cars, Subaru, subaru impreza, Subaru Videos, Subaru WRX, video on 01 10th, 2018

Ansel Elgort, the star in the film “Baby Driver,” kept one of the six Subaru WRX sedans that were used during the filming of the movie. Instead of putting the WRX away, Elgort took to Twitter to showcase some snowy drifts.

As the wheelman in the film, Elgort received tons of training to ensure that he could actually perform the stunts in the movie’s chase scenes, which is probably why we loved “Baby Driver.” Apparently, Elgort remembered some of his training, because the drifts he pulled off during New York City’s recent snowstorm were on point.

According to Motor1, making “Baby Driver” took six WRX sedans. One of the sedans was converted to rear-wheel drive and fitted with an upgraded differential to keep the smoky drifts going. That vehicle, even with 158,000 miles on the clock, sold for $69,100 on eBay.

While that vehicle is probably stored away somewhere, Elgort begged the studio to take one of the WRX sedans home. After roughly a year of begging, Sony finally obliged his request, giving the actor the Subaru for his birthday.

Clearly, Elgort’s still enjoying being behind the wheel of a Subaru.

Listen To A Subaru Boxer Engine Rev To A Dizzying 12,000 RPM 26
Posted by Brad Anderson in Film, Subaru, subaru impreza, Subaru Videos, video on 12 26th, 2017

While big, bustling V8 engines have their appeal, there is something especially intoxicating about small-capacity engines that howl like tiny Formula 1 engines.

Among Subaru enthusiasts, high-revving boxer engines, such as the EJ207, are adored and Australian tuning company GotitRext has decided to take the boxer engine to new heights.

The firm got their hands on a flat-four EJ-series motor and set about transforming it with new internals and a Garrett GTW3884 turbocharger. Incredibly, the engine delivers 610 hp at the wheels. However, that’s not the most amazing thing.

The most remarkable element of this flat-four is its ability to rev to a barely-believable 12,000 rpm. It’s unclear how GotitRext was able to make the engine rev at such extraordinary levels while still being reliable but it makes for a truly frightening powertrain.

As a matter of fact, the five-speed manual transmission mated to the engine means this 1994 Impreza LX hits 140 mph (225 km/h) in third gear alone!

New 2019 Ascent Is Subaru’s Largest SUV Yet, Goes After Honda Pilot 29
Posted by Brad Anderson in featured, LA Auto Show, new cars, Subaru, Subaru Ascent, Subaru Videos, Top 5, video on 11 29th, 2017

The all-new 2019 Subaru Ascent has just been unveiled on the eve of the LA Auto Show. As the largest Subaru ever with seating for up to eight people, it promises exceptional versatility and comes laden with a host of noteworthy features.

Subaru first previewed the Ascent as a concept in April and for the most part, the design of the production model is free of any significant changes. As such, the SUV adopts the automaker’s ‘Dynamic x Solid’ design philosophy and utilizes a hexagonal front grille with C-shaped headlights designed to mimic the look of pistons moving inside a boxer engine.

Sitting at the heart of the new three-row SUV is an all-new 2.4-liter boxer engine featuring direct fuel injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger. It delivers 260 hp at 5,600 rpm and 277 lb-ft of torque between 2,000 and 4,800 rpm. All models come complete with a CVT transmission featuring an 8-speed manual mode. The Ascent can tow up to 5,000 lbs and cover in excess of 500 miles on a single tank.

As standard, the 2019 Ascent boasts a second-row bench seat and can carry eight passengers. If customers don’t need so many seats, different configurations are available, including a second-row captain’s chair on select trim levels.

Speaking of trim levels, the 2019 Ascent will be sold in Base, Premium, Limited, and Touring configurations. The base model includes important features like Subaru’s EyeSight system with automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist, a 6.5-inch multimedia touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 18-inch wheels, raised roof rails, three-zone automatic climate control and Auto Vehicle Hold, a feature that holds the Ascent in place without the need for the brake pedal to be depressed.

Moving up in the range, the Premium trim adds Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, WiFi, heated exterior mirrors, Reverse Automatic Braking and more. As for the Limited, it adds leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, all season tires, Keyless Access with Push-Button Start, among other touches.

Last but not least is the Touring, outfitted with satin silver wing mirrors, chrome trimmings, and a luxurious interior that includes a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Sales of the 2019 Subaru Ascent will start in early summer 2018 with prices starting in the low-$30,000 range.
