Mercedes-AMG C63 Driver Hits NYPD Cop After Burnout In Times Square And Somehow Gets Away 16

NYPD officer Ian Wallace was hit by a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG in Times Square on Saturday night at around 11:45pm, with the driver fleeing the scene after causing a lot of commotion on the street.

The black C63 sedan can be seen doing burnouts in traffic prior to stopping right in front of the officer. Instead of pulling over, though, the driver accelerated and swerved, hitting and then sideswiping the 26-year old officer.

According to the NY Post, Wallace was taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries to his back, arms, right leg and right hip.

After escaping from the intersection, the Mercedes blasted its way westbound on West 42nd Street, hitting multiple cars and, eventually, disappearing.

We guess that, in such a crowded place, someone might have seen the Merc’s number plates, but at the time of writing this article, the investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been made.

The latest list includes an estimated 601,300 units of various 2009-2013 Lexus, Scion, and Toyota cars, whose defective inflators may rupture when the airbag deploys, thus increasing the risk of injury and even death.

Pickup Rolls Over After Being Hit By Out-Of-Control Sedan 14

Imagine this: There you are minding your own business and all of a sudden a car comes barreling into you from the opposite side of the road, causing your vehicle to roll over.

It’s an unfortunate scenario that can have dire consequences, especially on the motorway. There’s no info available, but we sincerely hope that no one was seriously hurt in this incident.

As for why that Camry stepped out of line in the first place, your guess is as good as ours. As you can see, the saloon was merging onto the motorway when, suddenly, it catapulted to the opposite lane.

We have no way of knowing, but unless there was some type of mechanical failure at fault, the driver, for some reason, simply lost control of his vehicle and ended up hitting the pickup truck.

Drunk Florida Mom Crashes Into Four Cars, Then Lets Toddler Wander In Traffic 13

A woman from Citrus County, Florida has been arrested after crashing her car with her two-year-old son on board and subsequently resisting arrest.

Brianna Dee Knox, 28, was taken into custody by the Florida Highway Patrol after driving recklessly and crashing into four cars on I-4 at roughly 5 PM on January 9.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that, after the crash, Knox’s red 2001 Honda broke down under an overpass. Upon exiting the vehicle, Knox started acting “erratically and disturbed”, even letting her young son walk towards traffic while she relieved herself on the side of the road.

The Miami Herald reports that when troopers David Flores and Alain Hernandez arrived on the scene, Knox resisted arrest, kicked one of the officer’s in the chest and hand and violently struggled as they handcuffed her.

Knox was arrested on charges including driving under the influence, battery on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash and child neglect. She is being held at the Hills borough County jail on $15,000 bail.

Ford Tells Certain Ranger Owners To Stop Driving Truck After New Takata Deaths 12
Jan
Posted by Cristian Gnaticov in Accidents, Ford, ford ranger, Recalls, Reports on 01 12th, 2018

Ford is advising owners of certain Rangers to stop driving them and contact an authorized dealer to change the defective Takata airbags as soon as possible.

The action is part of a larger Takata airbag-related recall, which includes several automakers from across the globe, and involves around approximately 3,000 units of the 2006MY pickups.

According to the carmaker, the vehicles were put together at Twin Cities Assembly Plant from August 10 to December 15, 2005, and they include 2,712 examples in the United States and federalized territories, and 190 in Canada.

The recall represents Ford’s response to two fatalities caused by the driver airbag inflators supplied by Takata. The first one was reported in January 2016, and the second one happened last July. The automaker inspected the latter Ranger on December 27, confirming that “the inflator ruptured resulting in a driver fatality”, notifying the NHTSA shortly after.

Ford now says that parts are available to fix the specific vehicles, and dealers are ready to pick them up by themselves, free of charge, providing owners with a loaner car, if necessary.

SUV Gets More Hang Time Than Jordan After Hitting Driveway Culvert 12
Jan
Posted by Sergiu Tudose in Accidents, New Zealand, Offbeat News, video on 01 12th, 2018

As if drifting off the side of the road wasn’t bad enough, the driver of this SUV lost control just as the car was approaching a nearby driveway on a New Zealand country road.

Upon hitting the culvert, the SUV is propelled upwards with a lot of force, enough to flip it over and cause what looks like a horrific accident, no matter how you slice it.

According to the description of the video, the car rolled twice after flipping over, and the driver had to be airlifted via helicopter to the hospital with moderate injuries. Let’s hope the seat belt was in use.

We obviously don’t know why the car drifted off the road in the first place, but it’s possible that the driver either fell asleep at the wheel, or he or she might have been distracted by something small, portable and extremely dangerous while driving – a cell phone.

Ultimately, those moderate injuries might prove to be a best case scenario, considering the speed at which this happened.

Illegal Overtake Ends With A Head-On Crash In Australia 11

As if ignoring the double white lines wasn’t bad enough, the driver of this white sedan inexplicably failed to return to their side of the road on time.

First, the good news. According to the description of the video, “everyone walked away” from this incident, which is the most you can hope for whenever a frontal collision occurs.

As for why this happened, aside from ignoring the double white lines, it’s possible that the driver of the sedan panicked when they saw the incoming car and tried to exit the road rather than fall back in line.

Another scenario would also include some panic, but with a dash of international tourism, where the person at fault might not have been accustomed to driving on the left side of the road, resulting in  hesitating at precisely the wrong time.

By that point, there wasn’t much the driver of the 4×4 could do, except for brake as hard as they could.

Speeding Semi, Snowy Road, Perfect Recipe For An Accident 9
Jan

In case it’s been a while since you last saw an easily avoidable crash, we’ve got you covered.

The driver of this semi either wasn’t paying attention, which sounds unlikely when driving on a snow-covered road at night, or he completely misjudged the situation, failing to slow down on time.

As pointed out in the description, the truck was also heavy, which could have contributed to the accident, although the late braking is often the number one factor in these types of scenarios.

Right before the impact, you’ll notice a gap between that stationary semi on the right and the van in the middle of the road. If the driver at fault could have somehow steered between the two vehicles, he might have managed to stop before hitting anybody.

If he had made it through, he could have used the guardrail to slow down the semi, if conventional methods continued to prove ineffective.

When Will It End? Takata Recalls Another 3.3 Million Airbags In The USA 8

Takata added another 3.3 million airbag inflators to the continuously expanding recall, making it the largest of its kind in the United States of America.

According to a report published by DetroitFreePress, the latest action revolves around the faulty frontal airbags in certain 2009, 2010, and 2013 vehicles made by a variety of car brands.

The list of automakers includes Audi, BMW, Daimler Vans, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Tesla. The exact models will be announced later this month, in the paperwork submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Takata’s faulty airbag inflators include ammonium nitrate, a chemical used to create a small explosion that fills the airbags quickly in the event of a crash. However, it’s known that when exposed to high temperatures and humidity, the chemical deteriorates, causing the metal canister to blow apart and spreading shrapnel into the cabin.

So far, at least 180 people have been injured by the metal bits worldwide, and more than 20 have lost their lives.

The NHTSA continues to monitor the automakers’ repairs progress, but even though Takata recalls originally began back in 2001, many companies have been slow to replace the airbag inflators.

A report published by an independent monitor, quoted by DetroitFreePress, states that 43.1 million inflators had been recalled until September 15, 2017, out of which only 18.5 million had been replaced, which accounts for 43 percent.
